A search at the Associated Press's national site tonight on "Berlin Wall" (not in quotes) returns 14 stories.
Changing that search to "Berlin Wall Reagan" reduces that number to one. That single story is a short, seven-paragraph item about sections of the wall which are on display in different parts of the world. Reagan's name gets mentioned as follows:
Carol Costello's liberal bias emerged yet again on Tuesday's CNN Newsroom, as she covered the catastrophic failure of the Antares rocket during a launch from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility. Costello wondered, "Can NASA really trust private companies to do its business?" The anchor later pressed on with her skepticism of private business: "Well, you know, it's a concern, because NASA also plans to use private companies to take astronauts into space. Should those plans be put on hold in light of what happened?"
Taking the web site even further down the path of useless, pretentious collection of hackery than it already is — and that's quite far — Vox.com has tweeted (HT Twitchy) that "Our obsession with the Ottawa shooter's religion reveals more about us than about him." It must be a shock to their system to learn that a lot of "us" would rather not be cut down by a member of the alleged "Religion of Peace."
The site's underlying writeup by Amanda Taub accuses "us" of jumping to conclusions, when there was plenty of evidence from the get-go that the attack was jihadist in nature:
Apparently the folks at Vocativ, who took a look at over 600 presidential speeches going all the way back to George Washington, were a little reluctant to document what their "scientific" analysis of those speeches told them about this nation's two most recent chief executives.
After finding that there is very little difference between the "sophistication" of speeches made by President Obama and former President George W. Bush, the former Clinton speechwriter the firm enlisted to comment on the results couldn't resist taking a gratuitous and I believe false swipe at Bush 43, one which I daresay most readers here will find absolutely hysterical.
There is apparently no more important story or issue right now at the Politico than Ted Widmer's question about our national anthem: "Is It Time to Ditch the Star-Spangled Banner?" It is currently the lead item at the web site, complete with a huge picture of the American flag. The "beheading by ISIL of a British aid worker" and Wisconsin's court-granted ability to implement voter-ID in the fall elections are both apparently less important.
Widmer's reasons to stop using the Star-Spangled Banner come down to the fact that Francis Scott Key was a slaveowner and that the song's third verse refers to escaped American slaves who were fighting on the British side (a commenter has asserted that it really refers to Hessians and British slaves; my guess is that it's all of the above). He somehow forgets that the British didn't outlaw slavery until 1833, 19 years after the 1814 Fort McHenry battle.
During an appearance on Fox News’ The Kelly File on Monday night, radical left-wing professor Ward Churchill continued to demonize the victims of 9/11 by once again comparing them to infamous Nazi Adolf Eichmann. The former University of Colorado professor refused to back down from his previous statements when he called 9/11 victims “Little Eichmanns.”
Churchill argued that the victims of 9/11 “are proactively involved and knowingly involved lending their proficiencies…which is served by the U.S. military.”
Beginning on Monday afternoon, Democrat and former Mayor of New Orleans Ray Nagin began a 10 year prison sentence for corruption charges that were as result of his actions following the landfall of Hurricane Katrina and subsequent flooding of the city in August 2005. When it came to reporting on the story during their evening newscasts, ABC World News Tonight with David Muir refused to cover the story while NBC Nightly News offered only a 15-second news brief. Over on CBS, the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley was preempted due to coverage of the men’s tennis final at the U.S. Open.
Fox News host Greta Van Susteren had some strong words for the Obama administration for failing to provide the press with adequate information following the 2012 Benghazi terrorist attack.
Speaking on her On the Record program on Friday, September 5, Van Susteren claimed that “the Obama administration’s behavior post-Benghazi has been weird, like they are hiding something.”
When last seen in coverage at NewsBusters, Anjem Choudary was sparring with Sean Hannity while claiming that ISIS atrocities are a Western "falsehood" and that Islamic Sharia law will be implemented "in the whole world one day."
Before getting to his latest stunt on CNN's Reliable Sources program with host Brian Stelter, it's important to provide some context, simply because Choudary, described at Wikipedia as a "Muslim social and political activist," has already said that "if you had a sense of humor, maybe you would have laughed" at how he conducted the mic check before his interview.
"Ten hours before the first plane hit the World Trade Center in New York City on September 11, 2001, Bill Clinton allegedly told a group of businessmen in Australia that he had a chance to kill Osama Bin Laden, but passed because it would have meant killing hundreds of innocent civilians," msnbc.com's Alex Seitz-Wald reported today, directing readers to a feature from Sky News containing the relevant audio.
Of course no one, including Mr. Clinton, had any idea that in the ensuing hours more than 3,000 people would lose their lives at the hands of al Qaeda terrorists executing bin Laden's vision of bringing terror to the American homeland, but all the same, it's a fascinating discovery worthy of news coverage. Yet of the Big Three evening news programs for July 31, only NBC's Nightly News devoted any attention to the story, although to be fair to CBS, the network's Jake Miller filed a story on CBSNews.com shortly after 4:30 p.m. Eastern today. Here's an excerpt:
Following the insulting trend of tagging every objection or concern raised about Obama administration policy and conduct as exclusively the province of Republicans and conservatives to an outrageous extreme, Rebecca Kaplan at CBS News opened her Monday story about whether the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) might plan terrorist acts in the U.S. as follows: "Republicans are sounding the warning that the next 9/11-like terror plot could emerge from the regions of Iraq and Syria that are currently dominated by an extremist group bearing down on Baghdad." Really, Rebecca? No one else is worried about that? Wanna bet?
Kaplan also seemed to believe that it would calm readers' nerves if they learned that it will be "at least a year before ISIS might pose more of a serious threat to the U.S." If that was meant to make me feel better, it didn't work. Excerpts follow the jump (links are in original; bolds are mine):
Friday's World News on ABC paid tribute to the 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion of Normandy with an emotional look at one of the remaining veterans who survived the hellish landings on Omaha Beach. However, the Big Three newscast made a historical gaffe during anchor David Muir's introduction to the segment.
Muir directed his audience's attention to a black-and-white photo of troops landing on June 6, 1944, and contrasted it with a photo taken Friday morning supposedly at the same place: Omaha Beach. But the 70-year-old picture was actually of British and Canadian troops landing at Juno Beach miles to the east: [video below the jump]
