TVNewser has an exclusive on the final fate of invisible Fox personality E.D. Hill today. Fox has decided not to renew E.D.'s contract, so she will be finally leaving the Fox News Channel after being off the air since June.
Some may remember the left-media storm targeting E. D. Hill that occurred back on June 6 when she off handedly said that Barack and Michelle's on stage fist bump was a "terrorist fist jab." The Huffington Post and Media Matters raised a storm of protest and soon after, E.D. Hill lost her Fox show.
Well, it seems to have taken some time, but as TVNewser reports Fox has announced they are not going to renew Hill's contract when it expires early in 2009.
SVP of Programming Bill Shine tells TVNewser that he "chose not to renew E.D.'s latest contract" but noted that "Hill has been a valued contributor to the success of FNC over the years, and we wish her all the best."
Hill officially apologized for the remark soon after the incident in June.

No older women at Fox
November 19, 2008 - 05:48 ET by Red JeepThis seems to be a trend at Fox: a woman reaches a certain age, or been there awhile and is getting expensive to employ, out the door. During the day when I want a sense of what’s happening out there, I turn on MSNBC. Even thought I basically don’t like MSNBC I absolutely can’t stand the "Kens" and "short skirt Barbies" on daytime Fox News or any of their evening political talk shows.
Good point, Red Jeep
November 19, 2008 - 07:11 ET by Mica the MagnificentMegyn Kelly is the fresher, younger version of E.D. Hill.
I agree. For a woman, it looks like once you hit a certain age, you're gone. They can get a younger chick in a shorter skirt and pay her half the salary - what's not to love?
LOL...at least you're
November 19, 2008 - 07:20 ET by motherbeltLOL...at least you're honest, Mica!
Speaking of short skirts...I remember when F&F first started: one morning E.D. and the guys were all sitting there and she actually said that a bunch of her skirts were being altered...shortened.
Well at least they are honest too.
Greta van Susteren really upped her game (appearance-wise) when she went to Fox. Then Susan Estrich started imitating the Ann Coulter look...I think she even washed her hair! LOL

November 19, 2008 - 07:29 ET by Mica the MagnificentI remember when F&F started and the promo was that her, Steve Doocy and Kilmeade were a little bit edgier and a little bit younger than the morning competition.
Oh, well. You can't be 'younger' forever.
Now if only Susan Estrich can lose that Carol Channing whine.

I'm a little confused here:
November 19, 2008 - 06:23 ET by motherbeltI'm a little confused here: Did ED actually call it a "Terrorist fist-jab" or was she attributing it to others? Because in her apology she said "had been characterized in the media" and she said she apologized because some thought she "personally" had seen it that way.
If so, I guess we can expect apologies from all those libs who for years have been using the "some say" tactic to accuse Bush, Cheney, McCain of all manner of evil. In fact just last week someone (I forget who) used the "I don't know if" to imply that McCain might have thought about "offing" Sarah Palin.
Well it just shows that conservatives take their lumps when they screw up. Liberals have "escort" services run out of their homes and don't have to resign.....

She Will Be Missed
November 19, 2008 - 06:29 ET by CapeCodScottE.D. was always, and still is, a Hot Ticket. She always put it right out there and was a valuable member of FOXNews. Too bad they chose not to renew her contract, but they have the integrity to act on behavior they find offensive.
Apparently, MSNBC has either no problem with Olbermann or no back bone. Oh, there is one other possibility, No Problem & No Back Bone....That's more likely the answer.

November 19, 2008 - 06:51 ET by Warner Todd HustonNot only does MSNBC have "no problem" with Matthews and Olbermann's extremism, they are making book on it! They expect and WANT them to be as out of their minds as they are. That is the specific business plan, to drive for the hard left.
So, far from MSNBC's execs having "no guts" or are being "used" by their mentally unbalanced on-air hosts, they are in cahoots with them.
Absurd
November 19, 2008 - 07:00 ET by JillCWIf this were the standard media-wide, ALL should have their contracts ended or not renewed. The comments that were made about GWB were horrendous, whether he deserved criticism or not. E.D. Hill has been a valuable member of the FOX team and her contract should be renewed. This is just more pandering to the O'Bismal presidency to come. How do you spell beyond political correctness to outright censorship? Bring E.D. back without all the fuss, for heaven's sake.
WOW
November 19, 2008 - 07:51 ET by 10ksnooker... maybe she can get a job at MSNBC, they can say any horrible thing they want about a President over at that pit, and still get their $139 Billion. How cool is that. Oh wait ... forgot, the $139 B was to pay off for what they were saying about Bush.
High finances .. and slime, seems to go together doesn't it.

November 19, 2008 - 07:53 ET by txradioguyFrankly after the times I heard her on air with BOR on his radio show...I stopped believing she was even remotely Conservative.
Back in '04 despite his blustering on The Factor...BOR was making all kinds of excuses and practically endorsing Kerry on the radio.
And E.D. was there agreeing with him along the way.
At least this way her 6 month no-compete clause is almost up and she can quickly sign with MSNBC or CNN.
Then she'll be back on NB because of the silly Liberal mantra she's spouting a-la Kieran Chetry.

November 19, 2008 - 08:04 ET by c5thenHer mistake was one of the least during the campaign but it shows that Murdoch is vulnerable to the left-wing nutroots and their campaign of anti-free speech. Over at MSNBC they can defame any conservative they want and call for the sitting Vice-President to be assasinated and/or charged with war crimes and nothing happens other than their ratings going down.
FoxNews started out slightly right of center with a true fair and ballanced approach to the news and even their editorials. Now they are slightly left of center and losing the ballance. If they continue on their current path, they will soom be indistinguishable from CNN.
Good luck to Mrs. Hill. I always enjoyed her when she was on.

November 19, 2008 - 09:40 ET by JerryC5, if E.D. got fired over a comment about Rosie O'Donnell, it would be a Shame, a Sham, and a Shamu.
When are we going to learn. The left promotes those who smear conservatives. The fair and balanced fires those who the left perceives as having smeared a liberal.

November 19, 2008 - 08:35 ET by flyingmonkeyAnd did anyone get fired at the New Yorker when they depicted Barack and Michelle as fist bumping terrorists on their cover? FNC's lack of backing for one of their finest news personalities makes me sick. I'll be downgrading my satellite package today without mourning the loss of the ever left-drifting Fox News Channel.
That's another $30 a month I'll save on top of my boycott of the print media. Maybe if we quit paying these people to lie to us, they would be forced to be more honest.

November 19, 2008 - 12:01 ET by nicholas nicklebyWarner,
Several commenters here have noted a number of other, non-exclusive reasons why her contract would not be re-upped, including age and salary (or as someone said, they can get a younger woman for less).
Now, that doesn't mean there her "terrorist fist-jab" comment was not a factor, and I guess you could see this as the Obamanization of Fox News, if you think she was let go because her comment was negative about the Obamas.
But then again, maybe she was let go because her comment was dumb. "Terrorist fist jab"--really? Another commenter asked if she was just ventriloquizing someone's position, but from the transcript (posted by another commenter), it seems clear that she isn't--that she's just saying something on her mind. It just happens to be something that doesn't make any sense.
But I'm not saying that's enough to get someone fired--as others point out, everyone says dumb things some time when they have a camera on them all all the time.
But to answer your question, if this comment of hers was taken into account in not re-newing her contract or in her disappearance from the air, I don't think it was because it was a negative thing to say about Obama (how many other people work at Fox News who also say or said negative things about Obama?)--I think it was because it was a dumb thing to say. (It became a national joke so quickly because it was so hard to take that comment seriously.)

November 19, 2008 - 10:10 ET by badcleatsNever thought of Edie Hill as anything but a good rep and team player. Somebody in the system must have wanted her out real bad to use that as an excuse. I guess you have to be a pretty flexible person to be a FOX viewer, and then be able to switch to MSNBC, and be happy with that garbage.

November 19, 2008 - 10:16 ET by marpelShe did some sort of special show on Fox not too long ago. It wasn't very good and I didn't watch but about 5 minutes of it, and can't remember what it was about. I noticed she had had some plastic surgery (it's a woman thing), and I figured that's where she'd been...recovering. I didn't know they had banished her for the "fist bump" comment.
Well, that speaks a lot about the death of journalism, doesn't it? I mean, San Francisco can try to name a sewer line after our President and the media celebrates it. But, say one thing about BO and MO, and you're toast. What does this tell us?
Sorry to see her go, especially for the reason we think.

It became a national joke so quickly because it made the precious Obama look bad potentially, and we couldn't have that. If she had asked the question about Bush or Cheney, we never would have heard another thing about it.
By the way, she didn't say it was a terrorist fist jab, she asked the question. Why? Because it was being labeled as such by some people. She didn't do a segment proclaiming it was a "terrorist fist jab", and that Obama might be a terrorist because of it.
The only joke here is the fake outrage that came out of it.
