In February of 2007 a small group named the Tennessee Center for Policy Research published an interesting little story that made Al Gore, the king of global warming alarmism, look a tad foolish. The report that TCPR sent out showed that Al Gore's own home was an energy hog. The TCPR report revealed that Al Gore's Tennessee mansion used more energy each month than the average American household uses in an entire year. In a response to this report, Gore claimed that he was diligently working to make his home more green, but now it looks like Gore is being gored again because a year down the line his energy use hasn't gone down. It hasn't even stayed level. It actually increased by 10%. How will the media handle this bloated increase despite Gore's claims of trying to improve?
In 2007, to a sensational reception the TCPR noted that the Gore family burned through energy at an amazing rate saying, "Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh -- guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359."
Not long after, Gore answered his critics on the website of Think Progress, an extreme website run by the Center for American Progress and funded by left-winger George Soros.
Vice President Gore’s office told ThinkProgress:
1) Gore’s family has taken numerous steps to reduce the carbon footprint of their private residence, including signing up for 100 percent green power through Green Power Switch, installing solar panels, and using compact fluorescent bulbs and other energy saving technology.
2) Gore has had a consistent position of purchasing carbon offsets to offset the family’s carbon footprint -- a concept the right-wing fails to understand. Gore’s office explains:
What Mr. Gore has asked is that every family calculate their carbon footprint and try to reduce it as much as possible. Once they have done so, he then advocates that they purchase offsets, as the Gore’s do, to bring their footprint down to zero.
The most telling aspect of the 2007 report about Gore's energy use is that he never disputed the facts. He admitted that he used that much energy, but claimed that he was trying to bring that usage down.
Well, we have waited a year to see the evidence of the Gore family's efforts to bring that carbon footprint down to zero. And, with a follow up report, the TCPR decided to look into Al Gore's usage of energy to see how well he did in improving his high energy use.
Unfortunately for the king of global warming, he didn't do so well.
The new report shows Gore actually increased his energy use despite all the supposed efforts to make that ol' carbon footprint equal "zero."
In the year since Al Gore took steps to make his home more energy-efficient, the former Vice President’s home energy use surged more than 10%, according to the Tennessee Center for Policy Research.
In the past year, Gore’s home burned through 213,210 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity, enough to power 232 average American households for a month.
Since taking steps to make his home more environmentally-friendly last June, Gore devours an average of 17,768 kWh per month –1,638 kWh more energy per month than before the renovations – at a cost of $16,533. By comparison, the average American household consumes 11,040 kWh in an entire year, according to the Energy Information Administration.
Ooopsie.
So, from the man telling you to reverse your standard of living to the dark ages, the Gore household continues to gobble up more and more energy every month than you would in a year.
As TCPR says, actions speak louder than words. I'd dare say with all the hot air emanating from the expanding girth of the former VP about global warming, with all the many private jet flights across the world, and with his constant scolding of the rest of us to stop using so much energy, this news once again makes Gore look the hypocrite.
Last time this news was a Drudge bombshell. The MSM reluctantly picked up on it after it became the talk of the blogs and talk radio. Will this newest report revealing Gore's continued hypocrisy also become big news, even if only briefly?
I guess, we'll see.

June 17, 2008 - 22:07 ET by MaximusBraveheartHow does HE get electric for 6 cents per KwH ?? What type of "sweetheart deal" is that? This should be investigated also; using his power to get power at half price. My last bill was $0.13/KwH (in Dallas TX, and that is cheaper than what most people get it for). Is power so cheap where he is at? Why don't they put it on the open grid w/ options trading and drive the price up 4x!

Let me define "unconscionable" for you: if you were to spend $40,000,000 on a party during wartime, that would be unconscionable. Kind of like Bush Jr. did awhile back.
Wow talk about hypocrisy and idiocy in just forty-seven words.
$1,359/mo. IS astronomical. To believe that it isn't proves either you are an idiot or a bald-face liar. That electric bill is more than the average American mortgage. Gore has a right to use the energy he deems necessary but the right he doesn't have is to make his dire claims of global warming and the need to reduce energy use but fails to live up to, in any manner at all, his prescription to save mankind. He not only uses enough energy to power a couple blocks worth of homes but actually increased his useage over the last year. He is in a hypocrisy league all his own.
And the canard about "Bush Jr." holding a $40,000,000 party convention during the midst of a war? A majority of that money is raised through individual contributions and corporate sponsorship. You know, the same sources the Democrats used when they held their bash in Boston in 2004 in the middle of a war. And if per chance you are referring to inauguration festivities held in January of 2005 the cost was not $40 million and again the vast majority is money raised through individual/corporate resources. If Obama wins are you and your ilk going to cancel inauguration festivities or will you justify the expense by beating a quick retreat from Iraq?
Your logic/beliefs are comfortably in the realm of pathetic moonbat-ism.

Utility bills - public record

Utility bills - public record?
Interesting. You know, I don't even know if they are of public record here in CA, however, just a few weeks ago, I called one of our utility companies - curious about a misread, it appeared - and in the process of talking to the gal on the phone, I asked her how mine compared to my neighbor's. Satisfied when she volunteered that information (and for several months back), I asked about my neighbor on the other side. Not a problem. Then I went for the big house across the street. When, after the fact, I asked her if the information was confidential, she got a bit nervous.
PS - seems somewhere I remember seeing a pic of a zoning change notice posted in front of Al's house a year or so back; one that would allow him to install solar panels on his home. Since, I read that the home was solar heated (without reference that the work had only just been completed). As Warner noted, it appears that the solar was not that effective.
And Warner... you submitted:

Conservatives must embrace this issue or face irrelevence.

It is not only the Hansen's of the world whose opinions matter. There are many reputable, relevant scientists who are skeptical about agw. You may never have heard of them, but they are out there. Thank the msm and agw conglomerate for that.
Not to mention, even a doubling of CO2 from present conditions would mean only a .6degC rise in mean global temperature.

June 18, 2008 - 09:41 ET by PopularTechThe IPCC is a political body that represents government appointed scientists. Because the primary inefficiency is due to how he makes his living, I'm sure it is a legitiment tax write off.

June 17, 2008 - 21:24 ET by kilrodDo any of you folks participate with grassfire.org and/or the Media Research Center. The following is from an e-mail i received today. I have signed several of theyre petitions but never sent them any money. Just wonder if they are any good are not. I could post some more links from them about other troubleing matters such as the Nafta Super Highway and the NAU, Thanks, kilrod
John Coleman, the Founder of the Weather Channel, recently
made a case linking Al Gore’s Climate Alarmism with the
rising gas prices.
Go here to access that article:
http://www.grassfire.net/r.asp?U=8295&CID=106&RID=16204065
It is clear that radical environmentalism must take much of
the blame for our current gas crisis. Consider this:
++ No nuclear plants in the past 20 years. Why? Environmentalists
will not allow it.
++ Our domestic oil production has dropped by 22 percent since the
last energy crisis. Again, radical environmentalism is working
against any new drilling.
++ Did you know that Rocky Mountain shale oil holds more than
six times as much potential oil reserves as Saudi Arabia --
enough to fuel America well into the next century?
Environmentalists don't want this resource to be touched.
And the bogus threat that CO2 is destroying the planet will
make it virtually impossible for America to expand our own capacity.

June 17, 2008 - 21:54 ET by stratmanThree different counties in which I have lived in Ohio have open public records concerning utilities. Maybe the entire state has utilities as public record. This would make sense as a consumer protection mechanism. One can find out utility costs before renting or purchasing in order to make an informed decision about future costs.
I would not be surprised if many more states other than Tennessee and Ohio have utility bills as public records.

How does CO2 get more than a couple of hundred feet off the ground? Except for that emitted by aircraft - it doesn't. And that eventually drops."
