Is Media Biased to the Right With McCain/Hagee vs. Obama/Wright Stories?

  • Bookmark and Share

As you should know by now, Democratic Presidential hopeful Barack Obama has a Wright problem. That would be a Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. problem. It turns out that Barack Obama's "spiritual mentor" has a long, long history of hatred against whites and the history of the U.S.A. But, late last week, news began to surface that one of John McCain's religious supporters, John Hagee, has made many harsh anti-Catholic statements in the past.

As reports of Wright's disgusting, hate filled garbage has made the news earlier last week, many on the extreme left have pointed to the low profile that the McCain story has had as proof that the media is unfair, intimating that the media might even be on McCain's side.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

It is true that John Hagee has made bigoted statements against the Catholic Church. It is also utterly true that Jeremiah Wright has made racist, hateful statements against all whites and the history of this country.

But, for the left to imagine that the situations in which McCain and Obama find themselves are exactly the same shows that leftists who think this are either uninformed or disingenuous. The situations are not in any way comparable.

Before you even attempt to dismiss this as just another fawning excusing of the GOP candidate by a Republican apologist, I will inform you that I will not vote for John McCain under any circumstances. So, you cannot chalk this up to mere electoral partisanship.

So, that said, there are major differences between McCain's endorsement by Hagee and Obama's endorsement by and 20 year long relationship Rev. Wright.

The following points mark a stark difference between McCain/Hagee and Obama/Wright:

  • In his book the Audacity of Hope, Barack Obama called Rev. Wright his "spiritual mentor." McCain has not made any such statement of Hagee.
  • Obama had his children baptized by Rev. Wright. McCain's kids never knew Hagee when they were small.
  • Rev. Wright performed Obama's marriage ceremony. McCain had never even met Hagee until he became the frontrunner for the GOP nomination.
  • Obama chose Rev. Wright's church and attended it for 20 years. McCain has never attended Hagee's church.

These points are extremely important and mark a completely different relationship between the hatemonger Wright and Barack Obama and McCain and Hagee. It shows that Obama had many decades of intimacy with Rev. Wright proving that Wright's hate speech could not possibly have bothered Barack very much at all, much less have come as any surprise. While John McCain had only just met John Hagee proving that his history of anti-Catholic statements is not something that McCain could have had long and intimate contact with.

Of course, both candidates have disavowed their religious supporter's statements. Obama made his statement via the Huffington Post and McCain via the media with a statement to the Associated Press.

But there is absolutely no way to equate McCain's acceptance of the anti-Catholic Hagee's support with that of Obama's acceptance of the racist Wright's. Obama has no excuse to have only suddenly distanced himself form this hate filled, ranter whom he has called his "spiritual mentor." For decades Obama has known of, and sat in a congregation listening to, the wild-eyed rants by this man. Barack has accepted him as part of his family closely associated with his wife and children. Barack Obama has been very close with Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. for 20 some years.

On the other hand, John McCain has only just met John Hagee.

You just cannot equate the two.

So, no, American left. There is no favoritism, no bias to the right among the U.S. media for covering Obama's race baiting pastor more than they have covered McCain's anti-Catholic ranter. And it is simply because Hagee means but an endorsement of a campaign for McCain whereas Wright means an endorsement of an entire philosophy against the U.S.A. for Obama.

Obama has had 20 years to repudiate Rev. Wright’s hatred and has only just now spoken up. It is impossible to believe that Obama only just now realized the hate that Wright preaches and we can only assume that Obama has agreed with Wright all this time and is only distancing himself from Wright now as a political expediency.

And if the recent comments about her hatred of America by Obama’s wife Michelle is any indication, the entire Obama family holds the very same racist, anti-American thoughts as Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr.

So, the final word about any so-called bias to the right in this instance has to be made against the idea. If the media reported McCain’s story less it is naturally because the Obama story is by far the more explosive and consequential story.

Hagee and Farrakhan would be a fair comparison

because neither candidate followed those people. The Wright/Obama connection is strong and long standing and there is no way Obama could have been unfamiliar with his radical views.

I agree

I agree with you.  Wright has been cited as a friend, Pastor, and advisor to Obama, in fact, he was so influential that he sat on Obama's election committee.  The other 2 may be inflammatory and controversial, but neither is anything more than a campaign contribution.

Good Anology

Excellent point Dee Bunk.  Obama/Farrakhan is a close match to McCain/Hagee. You nailed it on the head.

I think it's comparing

I think it's comparing apples and oranges. McCain never claimed any close ties to Hagee; Obama has a 20-year relationship with Wright.

That alone is enough to render any comparison invalid.

But that won't stop the media. Any time a Democrat scandal rears its head, the MSM have to highlight something to say the Republicans can't criticize; they are no better.

Once again, we have a guy

Once again, we have a guy mainstreaming the most outrageous insane extremist thought.

It is more than just Obama, look at the audience in those clips. They were eating it up.

A River Runs Through It

Now we know where Michelle Obama gets her rage. And her children must listen to it Sunday after Sunday, month after month, year after year. Pathetic.

As for Obama claiming he didn't know that hatred was coming from Rev. Wright, "This is a river of bulls**t." (As Scott Turow so perfectly put it.)

Three monkeys

I don't believe McCain (who I don't support) set in the pew for 17-20 years playin the three, -see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil,- monkeys as Hussein Obama pretends he did.

Old, Retired and glad of it.

There you go again

There you go again, stating facts, when the left says something facts are totally unimportant. Like Woopee said on O'Reilly, when he asked for the resaon she was voting for liberals, what is her rational? She said, ..."facts are your thing. To me it is just how I feel".

I think that just about states it for everyone. Liberals don't think, don't think they have to think, they just have to feel. Conservatives want to know why, so the can look at the facts and make a thoughtful decission.

John Hagee responds to accusations of anti-Catholic bigotry

FYI, here's John Hagee's response to the accusations that he's anti-Catholic.  I haven't seen any evidence of the MSM asking him for his side of the story.

When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.

Interesting. I won't hold

Interesting.

I won't hold my breath waiting to see that on the 6 o'clock news.

Hagee and Catholics

Thanks, nkviking. I know I never saw it until your link.

Great Link...

But as a Biblical scholar I must say that Hagee is WAY more dangerous to Christians than Wright is. Wright is OBVIOUSLY evil...Hagee is very subtle in his evil doings.

One only has to be a little familiar with the Scriptures to see the wickedness in "pastor" Hagee's teachings.

In my professional opinion, NIETHER of these men are men of God.

Hey, I'm just sayin...

I agree with you.

And dislike the views of both, too, even though I'm far from a Biblical scholar. Probably even for similar reasons. But even though I disagree with both men, I'd still pay good money to see a religion/politics shouting match (preferably unmoderated!) between the 2...

That's okay, Sarcasmo

One need not be a scholar to actually FEEL the falsehoods of both of them jokers!

Thanks. Question

Would you, like me, willingly fork over $10 (& unwillingly probably pay up to $20 or so...) for a pay per view shouting match between these 2 preachers, no holds barred? It would probably end up about as scholarly as the UFC fights some folks probably still want to ban, but if my guess is right, it might be at least as entertaining.

I'd go $50.00

And I'd tape it for student instruction (and a few chuckles).

I wish I could figure out a non-insulting way to approach them

Disturbingly-enough, I find myself wanting to be Don King today, dangit! (Only in America!!!)

A corruption-story the TV media will-not cover.

60's

For those of us who lived through Vietnam, we know all too well the likes of Wright and his ilk--many of whom are alive and well today, especially in "churches" and "universities" where they continue to indoctrinate people like the Obama's into victimhood and hate for their country. They play upon youth and ignorance. Disgusting!

BTW, check out Wright's "liberation theology" --it's communism, pure and simple. The poor in Central America are the latest to be suckered into it. But it's here too. Don't you be suckered by BO and his calls for "change".

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

  Mr. O has confessed that

Mr. O has confessed that he displayed bad judgement in his youth, his business associations, and his choice of spiritual mentor but yet he alone among the candidates has the 'best' judgement to lead this country.  Huh!?  These three areas cover his personal discipline, his ethics and his choice of a role model.

LOL....you are soooo

LOL....you are soooo right!

Wouldn't you love to hear that asked at a press conference: Sen. Obama, you've confessed to using drugs in school, making a "boneheaded" decision with regard to Tony Rezko, and now you've apparently been deceived by your pastor and spiritual mentor.
Why should the American people trust your judgment?

Mr. O?

At least, Obama owns up to youthful mistakes, a small business poor choice, and someone who is guilty by association for the words of a preacher!!!
I, for one, remember the adult choices of Norman Hsu-in jail, Peter Paul- on trial, McDougal's- dead and in jail, Jonny Chung extradited, Bill- impeached and disbarred, hillery trashing the serial paramours of her co-dependent husband, Vince Foster, and 27 others not around to testify...to name a few.
This is just the latest in the clinton slime machine tactics.
There is a decided difference in a person of character and a proven liar, thief, slanderer, and abused woman.
I take character any day.

Liberal Hysteria?

Since when have liberals cared about Catholic bashing? It's usually them doing it.

usa today

On one of the USA Today blogs there is a guy who says that Obama was there during one of Wright's vilest tantrums.  This would be huge if true..make Obama an obvious liar.  I wondered how he could go to church there all those years and never hear once this madman's radical ideas.?

USA today clip

this is the blog piece I mentioned:

There is already one source that wrote an article about Obama and his church in August 2007, not yesterday.

This source is saying that Obama was in attendance at the church when these statements were made on July 22.

That is why the article was written in August 07 questioning Obama about his attendance at this controversial Chicago church whose pastor routinely refers to "white arrogance" and "the United States of White America."

For Obama to come now and say he did not ever hear stuff like this he is lying and that is a very serious problem, what more will he lie about just to gain the presidency?

I just can't believe people will just shake that off and say lets move on.

More sugar!

You have a link, a URL or something? Hurry hurry hurry...

Yeah, before USA Today yanks it.

well that will be hard to

well that will be hard to track down. Fl_vet is not the source, he is saying there IS a source, but he doesn't specify anything else. Could just be a rumor.

Update: I just did quick Googles on "source says Obama in church," "source says Obama heard Pastor" and "Obama in church July 2007'

All came up empty.

mb,

That could very well be due to Google manipulating the results. Who knows?

Either way, I ain't buying for a second that Obama didn't know what Wright was spewing from the pulpit. No way that is plausible.

Having grown up in Atlanta during the '60s and '70s, I was really hoping that we had outgrown this sort of thing and moved on. It's just sad that we really haven't, at least in some areas.

Sadder still is that there are many so-called "churches" out their who deliver much the same message as this Wright clown, and that there are so many children being fed this garbage during their formative years.

Theme for Election '08: I want my mommy!

RD, I'm not disputing that

RD, I'm not disputing that Obama heard Wright's rants...I've said in other places there is no way he didn't. I'm just saying that I think something like that (someone saying that someone else says he was there on a specific day last July) is more than likely just a rumor...you know, kind of My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from
this guy who knows this kid who's going with a girl who saw Ferris pass
out at 31 Flavors last night....
so I'd really like to see the "source" who says he was there, not just hear secondhand that someone "says" there is a source.

I agree with you about the prevalence of this kind of thinking. Did you hear the two women in that video, that they interviewed outside? One said some think it's radical, but she doesn't, the other said he's speaking truth about being black in America today.

It's really sad.

mb,

Sorry, didn't mean to imply that you were. (LOL-I'm down here dodging tornados galore today, so I'm typing with one eye on the radar. Downtown Atlanta is about to get nailed again. So far, we in East Cobb County have missed most of it, as the really bad stuff is either passing just south or north of us. So far).

Yeah, it could be just a rumor. The kind you hope is true.

OK... no offense

OK... no offense taken.

Stay safe!

one question:   If

one question:

If Barak H-word Obama said he never heard Wright say those things, fine.

Wright has most likly said those tyopes of things for the 40 years he was a pastor.

BHO has been a part of that "church" for 20 years.

Maybe BHO never DID hear him say that and is just part of the church to get the AA vote......showing "look i go to a church just like you guys" but when it hit's the fan ( like right now) he can say he never "heard" it said.

maybe i am reaching but I used to respect him, but now i have nothing but contemp.    and I have been called a racist by my niave friends who are saying they will vote for him, to show how unracist they are.

I Can't Wait

If this whole thing causes Obama to lose the primary, I can't wait to hear Keith Olbermann say "I was for Hillary Clinton before I was against her".  The squirming amongst pundits has begun. "I applaud Barack Obama for coming out so quickly about this", "what about John McCain and Hagee?", "I don't think it will hurt him in the long run", "this campaign needs to get back to issues, not personal relationships".  Lovin' it!

Obama not just an empty promise of nothing.

I once thought Obama was just an empty promise of nothing, not anymore. The Harvard grad young activist Obama sought out Wright's Trinity church and his "liberation theology".  This isn't just blatant racism and hate, this is communism.

I was shocked, blindsided if you will, but though I was never a supporter the scales have fallen from my eyes.  Twenty years your personal "spiritual mentor", your "favorite uncle" figure is a binding tie that words cannot disavow.  Obama cannot separate himself from the "liberation theology" he has embraced for the last twenty years.

What maybe more shocking is Obama's defenders that have been trotted out.  Not the predictable talking heads of the MSM and Democratic Party operatives (redundancy noted).  Not even the pathetic and lame attempts to compare Obama's connection to the hate monger Jeremiah Wright and McCain's unsolicited endorsement from a supposedly anti Catholic bigot clergyman.  The real shocker was the number of black Americans and not all Obama supporters that stated the anti American and hate filled "liberation theology" spewed by Wright is common in black church congregations.

It's clear to me that Obama wants to take this country in a new direction, change that is change to a Socialist Utopia.  This "Change" candidate wants the change Che Guevara advocated not Jefferson.

And the most amazing thing

And the most amazing thing to me, is that in his statement, he says he is "proud of his pastor and his church."

How can you be be "proud" of someone and at the same time be denouncing what he says? How does that happen?

Isn't that kind of like saying you are proud of your father, but you condemn the fact that he beats your mother?

mb... ...and he still

...and he still refused to repudiate Wright himself last night on television in the Garrett interview I think it was.

Something else...eh?

Still waffling.....

They have moved it since I posted here...here is another link that will get you there...go to the right, you will see where Obama responds, and below the link to Wright from a year ago..the interview does take patience with him...lol...but it refers to what we were talking about above.

Btw...this interview is the one with Major Garrett if you have already watched it on Matthew Sheffield's thread regarding Obama, I posted this all before he put that up...so, you will know what I mean if you go there.

Ok got it. Talk about

Ok got it. Talk about annoying. I was trying to figure out who was interviewing who! Wright seemed to think Hannity should answer his questions.

CT -- who backing Obama, and for how long?

CT -- There must be some very powerful forces for a number of years, behind Obama, and that's surprised me.

I assumed Lady McClinton would eat him alive, then regurgitate him to do it all over again.

Especially when it came to the SUPER-DELEGATES. Again I had assumed that they would be tied up with the Clinton's polito patronage.

BUT GET THIS...

In fact, it is Obama who has been quiety pumping money into the super-dels.

He has doled out close to a million dollars, far exceding Hillary... and that he started that back in 2005!

2005 -- when I'd lay a bet that 99% of Americans had never heard of Barack Hussein Obama.

There has been real planning to this "campaign."

He has doled out close to a million dollars, far exceding Hillary... and that he started that back in 2005

Jack, where did you find that?

mb -- a few weeks back when

mb -- a few weeks back when the media suddenly became aware of the whole Super-Delegate thing, there was a news piece on Fox which stated that very surprising news.

Apparently he started in 2005 donating money to the SDs (not STDs) and has given over $800,000. Governors, and others running for office, et al.

While Hillary's campaign has been way down on that -- maybe she was taking them for granted.

Anyway this is a SERIOUS plan that started at a minimum of THREE years ago.

I'm thinking .. mmm, that's v.interesting. As we have been led to believe this was just a pretty spontaneous, grass-roots.

In fact, I believe his 2004 speech to the DNC which introduced him must have been part of the plan. SWo you have to ask ... how far back does this go. Who prepped him.

Not that's there's anything WRONG with all that. But... who is being naive in thinking he's this naive natural? Us maybe?

I wonder if he 's an acolyte of Soros. Maybe that Hillary kindergarten ad was right after all?

Vote 4 change. Vote 4 anything. See Jack & Mr Shy's first campaign ad for the ONLY viable 3rd party candidate.

Afternoon Jack, I was

Afternoon Jack,

I was talking with my other half about that exact same thing last night, I always knew he didn't move up this fast since his DNC speech without planning ect.

I have always felt he is a wolf in sheeps clothing, being groomed for a long time by forces behind the scenes.

In the end of this all it is going to be very very interesting.

Just my two cents...

I'd like to know -- where

I'd like to know -- where did he get the funds/money in 2005 to start schmoozing the SDs?

Vote 4 change. Vote 4 anything. See Jack & Mr Shy's first campaign ad for the ONLY viable 3rd party candidate.

Jack... Me too... I

Jack...

Me too...

I hope there is going to be somebody somewhere that follows the $$$ trail, if it is possible to find that is, who knows how this could of been diverted.

Like you said though, Soros is also a good behind the scenes go to guy.

And speaking of

And speaking of Superdelegates...Her Speakerness has weighed in and says that she doesn't think the Supers should vote against the popular vote!

That's really rich, considering the fact that the Superdelegates were created for the purpose of overturning the popular delegate vote!

Well, as Rush has said, in the Democrat party, there are no rules....there are only "customs" and "traditions." LOL

mb... ROFL...glad you

mb...

ROFL...glad you caught that on Fox...rich indeed, I read about it a few days ago.

As they say...Rush is right...

Wow. That is very

Wow. That is very interesting.

Especially since he claimed that he hadn't really thought about running, until he realized that people were hungry for a new kind of politics.

So I guess he realized that in 2005?

here in Illinois ever since

here in Illinois ever since he ran for Senate there has been talk of him running for president.   He ran against Alan Keys, I voted for Barak H word Obama, and have regereted it everyday.

he WAS being groomed to be a presidentail runner, remember this is when her Thighness said she had no intention of running for president, so BHO was thought to be a shoe in.    and the thing was, he hadn't done anything yet.....he was going to make changes in the senate, instaed voted "present" on ...what is it 85% of the votes.

Now also isn't the fact that he IS the front runner make the claims that Rev Wright is making.......false.     a black man is in the running to be president and very well may become the president.   how can "the rich white man" keep the "poor black man" down if a black man is in the spot BHO is in?

Should be interesting.

Yep, I heard a caller on Hannity's radio show mention this exact thing yesterday regarding Oprah ect...posted as such to marpel or someone...you are right it is going to be interesting if she mentions any of this on her show...but it does make me wonder now about the school she decided to build in Africa somewhere now...and her real reasons for picking this area...

You can't help but wonder when it comes to this Church and all black racists views.

Hi, bt. Hey, and I haven't been blown into the Atlantic, either.

LOL-At least not yet, anyway. Tornados all over around here.

Yeah, Oprah going to have to say something about this, as she has apparently been dabbling in Obama's church as well.

I wonder if it will matter to her brain-dead audience?

For a quick look at

For a quick look at "liberation theology", check out this article at Time.com.... apparently Pastor Wright espouses black liberation theology and Oprah is joining in too.

Here's a quote from the article:

Originally minted in Latin America in the 1960s, liberation theology is a controversial current of religious thought that has, in less than two decades, gained widespread currency. To many, it is the duty of Christians to support the rights of the poor and oppressed. But among its extreme proponents, liberation theology has been used as an apologia for revolutionary upheaval in the Third World that strives to link the imperatives of Christian charity with the dictates of Marxist class struggle.

Hey thanks mb... Yeah I

Hey thanks mb...

Yeah I heard an old (about 1 yr. old) interview on H&C last night with Wright, he talks about some of this....eye-opening, spooky...to say the least.

People ought to be worried, very worried.

Another contrasting point

Another contrasting point is how long did it take the MSM to "reveal" the connection of candidate with religious figure after it was known or should have been known?  Days compared to months?

How about the number of MSM elite who either themselves or had cherry-picked others showcased to refute charges for their, opps!, the presidential candidate?

RRAM Tough!

Preacher Manning vs. Obama

Talk about hate-filled sermons depending on who the listener is...this is something else, if a white preacher had said any of this we would never of heard the end of this and the preacher here would of been denounced and such...the msm would never of quit 24/7.

Why is it the libs refuse

Why is it the libs refuse to see the forest for the trees on this issue? It's not about religion. It's about American values. Many fundamentalists speak strongly against the Catholic Church. It's all about doctrine. The problems with Pastor Wrong's teachings have nothing to do with Christian doctrine. They have to do with how he feels about America and what he'd like to see in the way of "change". Pastor Wrong should not be "preaching" for or against any political candidate. If he chooses to do so, he's no longer preaching the Gospel. He's supporting a political agenda and his church's tax exempt status should be revoked. However, as it is, he's supposedly "retired". How conveeeeeenient!

I am Queen Mum and I approved this message.

Hi QueenM... You hit the

Hi QueenM...

You hit the nail on the head...guess the IRS feels the same concerning this too, seems they are looking into just this matter.

Long-legged freak????? Oh,

Long-legged freak????? Oh, my.

Wow. I guess he's not an "Obama Guy." LOL

Do you suppose anyone will stand up for him and claim that what he said about black men was true?

QueenMum, I read something a couple of days ago that said the IRS was looking into the church for possible revocation of their 527 status. Even if it won't happen again, as he is "retired" now, I think the church should have to pay a penalty to the IRS for his actions.

We'll see what happens.

Roland Martin's take

I've seen fat-headed Roland Martin - in no less than 3 different instances on various CNN "panels" - quickly rush to Obama's "defense", saying something like "whoooaaa, now wait a minute. Let's not forget that John McCain has his own problems in this area with inflamatory statements made by John Hagee!!! We can't discuss one situation without talking about the other."

The most nauseating thing, of course, is that the panel moderator always lets Martin get away with it, whereas most rational, objective people would remind Martin of the fundamental differences between the two situations after laughing in his face.
