Will New York Times columnist Paul Krugman ever recover from Donald Trump’s election?

Minutes after President Donald Trump took the oath of office Friday afternoon, criticism poured in from CNN. Chief political analyst Gloria Border demonstrated why the outlet has the moniker “Clinton News Network” when she ridiculously whined that, “I was also surprised that in some way he did not pay some tribute to Hillary Clinton… He did not do it.” According to Borger, it would have been seen as Trump trying to unify.

During NBC’s live special Inauguration Day coverage on Friday morning, ahead of Donald Trump taking the oath of office, Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd warned that the new president “needs to earn this honeymoon” and “ missed some opportunities these last six to eight weeks...to just erase the asterisk” of his election.

On MSNBC following President Donald Trump’s Inaugural Address, hosts and pundits expressed grave concern at a speech that was “dark” and “militant” with anti-Semitic overtones with the use of the phrase “America First.” Co-host Rachel Maddow seemed emotional, speaking softly about how “it was militant and it was dark, the crime, the gangs, the drugs, this American carnage, disrepair, decay” and a speech Barack Obama couldn’t have given.

ABC journalist Terry Moran on Friday offered a sneering, dark take on Donald Trump’s inaugural address, trashing its “ugly echoes” to the rise of Nazi Germany. Regarding the President’s assertion that, “From this day forward, it’s going to be only America first,” Moran slimed, “It carries with it overtones from the 1930s when an anti-Semitic movement saying, ‘We don't want to get involved in Europe's war. It's the Jews fault in Germany!’”

Let's see how the media cover this part of Inauguration Day. As Donald Trump prepared to become the 45th President on Friday, the journalists at ABC couldn’t help but focus on every detail of Hillary Clinton’s outfit. World News Tonight anchor David Muir focused on “the statement she's making historically by wearing white.” He sympathized, “A lot of people tweeting about the fact she's in white today. Saying it's the color of the suffragette movement. As we know, a lot of women will be protesting tomorrow in Washington and around the country at separate rallies.”

In back-to-back interviews on NBC’s Today and CBS This Morning on Friday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was largely treated to softball questions that allowed him to advance the Democratic Party’s strategy to obstruct President-elect Donald Trump’s agenda.

After standing by their discredited story on Rick Perry, the journalists at the most (arguably) liberal paper in the country again showed their arrogance by claiming the country and world, would be begging for Obama to come back. In an article from Thursday’s New York Times, opinion writer Nicholas Kristof predicted that “America and the world will soon be craving that Obama Cool again.”

As inauguration festivities got under way, celebrities began to weigh in with final thoughts on the Obamas, the incoming administration and the nation’s impending doom.  Director and scathing Trump critic Joss Whedon managed to reflect all of those sentiments in a January 19 tweet. “Barack Obama is President today,” he wrote. “Tomorrow the devil’s clown car opens and millions will suffer. But today is for gratitude and pride.”

Roughly five minutes into MSNBC’s Inauguration coverage, host Brian Williams switched gears from discussing Donald Trump becoming President to mythologizing President Obama for having “elevated the office...improved by touching the office and shown great respect for the office he's the custodian of.”

The journalists at CBS This Morning on Friday lectured viewers that some Americans “fear” Donald Trump and are very “nervous” about his presidency. Face the Nation host John Dickerson insisted that Trump needs to “to offer something to the other side, to recognize the fear.”

On the morning of Donald Trump’s inauguration, ABC spent a few minutes legitimizing the 60+ Democrats boycotting Trump as a sign of a “divided nation.” Contrast that with eight years ago, when the networks were giddy and gushing about how great Obama’s presidency was for the country.
