As NewsBusters previously reported, the wife of Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama isn't very proud of her country. Two weeks after making her disdain for the nation clear during a campaign speech for her husband in Wisconsin, Michelle further debased America by saying that we're a country that is "just downright mean."
Given how media made excuses for her comments in Wisconsin, it will be quite interesting to see just how much of her interview in the March 10th edition of The New Yorker will be reported in the next 24 hours (emphasis added throughout, h/t JWF):
Obama begins with a broad assessment of life in America in 2008, and life is not good: we're a divided country, we're a country that is "just downright mean," we are "guided by fear," we're a nation of cynics, sloths, and complacents. "We have become a nation of struggling folks who are barely making it every day," she said, as heads bobbed in the pews. "Folks are just jammed up, and it's gotten worse over my lifetime. And, doggone it, I'm young. Forty-four!"
Oh, woe is her! Just listen to how deluded this person is:
"You're looking at a young couple that's just a few years out of debt," Obama said. "See, because, we went to those good schools, and we didn't have trust funds. I'm still waiting for Barack's trust fund. Especially after I heard that Dick Cheney was s'posed to be a relative or something. Give us something here!"
Give us something here?
Can you believe this nonsense? You want to know how much this couple has been given lately?
The Obamas' financial standing has risen sharply in the past three years, largely as a result of the money Barack earned from writing "The Audacity of Hope." In 2005, their income was $1.67 million, which was more than they had earned in the previous seven years combined.
[...]
Just after Barack was elected to the United States Senate, Michelle received a large pay increase-from $121,910 in 2004 to $316,962 in 2005.
Still want someone to give you something, Michelle?
But that's just the beginning of an hypocrisy an honest media would be all over if her husband was a Republican:
"The life that I'm talking about that most people are living has gotten progressively worse since I was a little girl. . . . So if you want to pretend like there was some point over the last couple of decades when your lives were easy, I want to meet you!"
Really, Michelle? Life has gotten worse for you since you were a little girl? Not according to The New Yorker:
Money was scarce but sufficient. Fraser [her father] took pride in providing for his family. "If the TV broke and we didn't have any money to have it fixed, we could go out and buy another one on a charge card, as long as we paid the bills on time," Marian [her mother] told me. Saturday nights were spent at home playing Chinese checkers, Monopoly, or a game called Hands Down (like spoons, with bluffing). It was a simple time. "I probably had two sleepovers my entire life," Craig [her brother] said. "We were home folks." Many years, the family drove to Dukes Happy Holiday Resort, in Michigan, for a week's vacation.
Compare this to her life today:
The Obamas employ a full-time housekeeper, and Michelle tries to see a personal trainer four times a week.
Woe is you, Michelle.
*****Update: To give readers an idea of the delusion involved in this woman's declarations concerning how things were better when she was a little girl, let's understand that in the year she was born (1964), 19 percent of the population lived in poverty. In 2006, that percentage is 12.3.
You were saying, Michelle?
Of course, it would be nice if media called her out on this nonsense, wouldn't it?

My grandma - mother of 5 children - had such a lavish household budget that she used to constantly indulge in black shoe polish on the bottoms of her feet to help hide the holes in her socks and shoes
But now many people my age work at factories screwing nuts onto bolts for only about 40 hours a week and yet still can only afford 4 or 5 TV's and DVD/VCR's, big deck out back with a huge grill and hot tub, gameroom with a nice big pool table, a $40,000 fishing boat, snowmobiles, dirt bikes, a lake cabin, 2 or 3 cars and trucks with DVD players all cozy in a nice clean garage - crammed with bikes/sleds/ski's/skateboards, closets full of clothes, kitchens full of food, dentist twice a year, doctor whenever they need it, health club memberships, lunch and dinner out constantly, they fly to the Caribbean or Aspen every year with their kids - it's truly miserable as hell nowadays michelle

March 5, 2008 - 11:48 ET by jdhawkMichelle bambi is obviously hitting a nerve - at least that is what her handlers and the polls are telling her. But, even if all that she is saying is true. It is not the problems that she is enumerating, but what her and her naive, stupid, liberal husband propose as solutions.
The solutions, according to her socialist husband is to make our government much much bigger at all levels (that is what he did as a state senator, what he has tried to do as a US senator, and he proposes to do as president, if elected). That has been tried and tried again in numerous areas - poverty, health care, etc. and failed miserably over and over again.

Get yourself a card with frequent flyer miles, or better still, make the dupe who would pay to hear you speak, pay for the airline tickets. You fly out somewhere once a week and give the speech and bank the money. That's over $2.5M per year. If BHO wins the presidency, bump the fee up to $100K, fly Airforce 1, and throw the money in a trust for four years. That's $20M. It all of course depends on the definition of poverty. I've seen so many left wing interest groups come out with these wild definitions of poverty that I immediately get my guard up. Amongst other things, the U.S. Census Bureau states:
The official poverty definition uses money income before taxes and does not include capital gains or noncash benefits (such as public housing, Medicaid, and food stamps).
I'm sure you'll agree with me Noel. The total number of people in real hardship I'm guessing is more like 1-3%.
Exactly, poverty and the
March 5, 2008 - 13:05 ET by dscottExactly, poverty and the lack of material wealth are not the same! http://www.heritage.org/Research/welfare/povertyinequality.cfm
For most Americans, the word poverty suggests destitution: an inability to provide a family with nutritious food , clothing, and reasonable shelter. Advocates of the welfare state often urge large expansions of welfare spending to combat allegedly widespread poverty in America, yet only a small portion of the 37 million persons classified as poor by the Census Bureau fit that description. While real material hardship certainly does occur, it is much more limited in scope and severity than one might imagine.

Poverty: some perspective
March 5, 2008 - 17:17 ET by AlabamaI don't consider myself impoverished, but according to our income level, I am. Let me just say for the record: If I'm going to be living in "poverty" I'd rather be doing it in the USA than anywhere else in the world! We may not be living like royalty, but here's what we do have: A home, which we own. (Admittedly, we got lucky here, someone was giving away a mobile home to anyone who would move it... a year of renovation later-- it was old and in BAD shape-- and we have a roof over our heads while we save money for a home that doesn't have wheels underneath) Two working vehicles, one of which is only a couple of years old and will be paid off by the end of the year. Two tvs. Satellite to make the tvs more enjoyable. A computer with internet access. Two cell phones. Air conditioning/heating. Electricity, running water, a washer and dryer, food on the table at every meal. Almost no debt (just the one vehicle payment).
Please, won't someone save us from our "poverty...?"
So, what DID you expect, Mrs. Osama Bama?
March 5, 2008 - 15:40 ET by goldenthroat"Give us something here!"
Oh, really?
Michelle Osama Bama, as a genuine Democrat, shows that the only thing she believes in is that people should have a sense of entitlement and that, as long as you're good at playing the "victim" card, you'll get what you want.
Both Osama Bama and Shmillary want to send this country down the slippery slope of socialism and their left-coast, bleeding-heart, 'do as I say, not as I do' philosophy will cost this country dearly in the long run if either one of them takes over the White House.
Poor thing - wonder how she has survived all these years...

March 5, 2008 - 12:53 ET by iveseenitallI wonder if Tim Russert, with his intrepid journalistic style, will ask Obama in the next debate something like, "Mr. Obama, on many occasions, your wife has said ... do you agree?" Don't hold your breath for that question.

Proof that Michelle is
March 5, 2008 - 12:49 ET by Clear thinkerProof that Michelle is right...
The problem is, she is on the side of the "Mean" ones. This came directly from Democrat Underground. It's a bit long but it does prove that Michelle is right....... at least about mean Dems.

March 5, 2008 - 19:15 ET by ckc1227Well, the good news is once the dems get the White House, health care will be free, and this mental defective loser will finally get the help she needs.
Of course, the bad news is the rest of us who have a clue we'll have to pay for it...
The "update" seals her delusion, Noel.
March 5, 2008 - 13:10 ET by Gary HallNoel, your "update" which clearly illustrates the great gains made since the: Matthews: 'Nothing's Done' to Fix Problems 'Since '65 Civil Rights Bill' (I was looking to note that yesterday) post of Mr. Baker yesterday, clearly shows not only how out of touch Michelle Obama is, but also how the MSM is so invested in keeping the voters out there so ill-informed on the facts. Waiting patiently for a reporter to pull out the poverty chart, and say, "Michelle, what in the world are you talking about, babe?"
And for the record, Michelle's position at the University of Chicago Medical Center is the VP of Community and External Affairs. Looks like the hospital operated, per the 2006 annual report, in the 8% profit margin range. Wonder how Obama's new health plan will seek to slash these extravagant salaries of these folks, and seize the profits from those who are stealing money which could be used to take care of the uninsured. (OK, a bit tongue-in-cheek).
Also some of Michelle's income is derived from her position on the board of some pickle company.
And I remind anyone looking to blame Bush on for economic downturns in the minority communities, the MSM knew damn good and well, how the Clinton bubble worked - Hire them last in the boom, fire them first in the bust. From the Clinton bust, the facts with a bit of satire from leftist writer Robert Scheer, June 6, 2000 in the Los Angeles Times:
How mean was that Michelle? 116,000 fired - mostly minorities -- in only one week's time? Shh, didn't count then did it?
President Bush had not made the trip to the Republican Convention in the run for president against sitting VP Al Gore at that moment in time. Where was your hate then, Michelle?
Which was also the same
March 5, 2008 - 13:18 ET by dscottWhich was also the same period the illegal immigration was well on it's way to becoming overwhelming, flooding the unskilled labor market with cheap foreign and illegal labor. It was Clinton's policy directives to the then INS not to enforce the border or arrest illegals working that ramped up the problem for everyone. Illegal immigration didn't appear overnight during the Bush admin, the INS just ignorantly carried them on until they were told to do otherwise. You know what they say in the military? Carry out the last order until told otherwise. Boy, the Dems really love the poor, yeap, to screw them over.

I just love these power couples form the left...they are the gift that keeps on giving so far for our side of the aisle.
Btw...Hill will get this out regarding Michelle's words if she can...one way or the other.
"Power Couples"
March 5, 2008 - 14:00 ET by iveseenitall"Power Couples"--so right, BT. We have one in our family. Big "liberals". Guess where the money comes from --the drug, medical, hospital industry. That's the dirty secret in all this "socialized healthcare" canard. Let's look at the truth about who will ultimately benefit. As with Global Warming, it won't be the poor, that's for sure.
NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

KOGELO, Kenya -- American shock jocks, dirty tricks masterminds and political bloggers: Beware the wrath of an 86-year-old Kenyan villager.
A frown replaces the dimpled beam of Sarah Hussein Obama, grandmother of Barack Obama, when asked on Wednesday about recent attacks on her grandson that include the spreading of rumors that he is secretly a Muslim and the repeated use of his middle name -- Hussein -- by a radio host at a rally for presumptive Republican nominee John McCain.
"Untruths are told that don't have anything to do with what Barack is about," she said in the local Luo language, her gray hair smoothed neatly under a headwrap. "I am very against it."
Hillary Rodham Clinton won primaries Tuesday in Texas, Ohio and Rhode Island, halting Obama's winning streak. Obama won in Vermont.
Each twist and turn of the race is closely scrutinized, said Barack Obama's half-sister, Auma Obama. The family gathered in his grandmother's house on Tuesday night to watch the results come in on a television donated by a family friend, she said -- the grandmother's own simple house does not have one of its own.
"Barack's done extremely well and we're very proud of him," Auma Obama said when asked for a reaction to the losses on Tuesday. "This is like a football match. The game continues."
In recent weeks, two Clinton volunteers in Iowa resigned after forwarding false e-mails falsely saying he was a Muslim and a threat to national security. Matt Drudge, said his Web site, The Drudge Report, that he was e-mailed a picture of Obama in a turban and robe by the Clinton campaign.
"Bringing such pictures that are trying to imply that not only is he a foreigner, he is a Muslim, is wrong, because that is not what he is," scolded Sarah Obama.
The photo was taken when Barack Obama was presented with the outfit while on a visit to his late father's native Kenya. Clinton campaign officials have said they did not condone any such dirty tricks.
Obama's grandfather had converted to Islam from Roman Catholicism and taken the name Hussein, Sarah Obama said, but his children had inherited only the name, not the religion. Each person should be able to choose how they worshipped, she said.
"In the world of today, children have different religions from their parents," she said. She, too, is a Christian.
Barack Obama has visited his Kenyan relatives three times in Kogelo, and his grandmother has gone to the U.S. twice. She says they are close, although they have to speak through an interpreter.
Sarah Obama was the second wife of the candidate's late grandfather, so she is not his biological grandmother. But Auma Obama said: "By our definition, in our culture, she is his grandmother," she said.
NOTE that she is not his real GRANDMA. Can't they send her a FLAT SCREEN out of that $1.67 million!

Cheyney's Trust Fund?
March 5, 2008 - 14:13 ET by Pete-PumaMichele Obama is clearly prejudiced if she think Dick Cheyney grew up rich. His father was, literally, a dirt inspector for the Department of Agriculture. He (the V.P.) flunked out of Yale and graduated from the U. of Wyoming. for crissakes. Trust fund kids don't flunk out of Yale, you ignorant windbag.

March 5, 2008 - 14:35 ET by suzycreamcheeseWhat a ballbreaker. She is the African-American Ter-ayza Heinz-Kerry and America will not like her as First Lady. She's already acting like this and Dumbo hasn't even won yet. Only imagine what she'll be like once she's firmly inside the White House. *shudder*
Maybe...
March 5, 2008 - 14:49 ET by LastlibertarianMaybe she's talking to her own race?
Maybe it's "mean" for blacks to have killed over 200,000 whites in the last 50 years?
Or raped millions, YES MILLIONS of white's?
