Dallas Morning News: Nobel Laureate Calls for Bush's Death at 'Peace' Conference

July 12th, 2007 11:42 AM

Before I tell you how the Dallas Morning News is breathlessly reporting that Nobel laureate Betty Williams called for the death of President Bush at the "International Women's Peace Conference" in Dallas on the 11th, I must remind you all that peace activists on the left are far more "civilized", "Humane", "tolerant", and "intelligent" than the rest of us. OK? I just wanted to get that straight before further relating this story.

James Hohmann of the News reports that Williams, who is Irish and not a US citizen by the way, "came all the way from Ireland to Texas to declare that President Bush should be impeached."

I suppose we should be flattered... or not.

Interestingly, Burying the obvious leade, the News decides to avoid mention of the violent intent of the speaker who later says "Right now, I could kill George Bush” with a title that belies her serious hypocrisy. "Irish peace activist's speech at Dallas event gets standing ovation", it says in sunny, innocent language.

Yet the content of this woman's rant is far more insidious than the sunny title portends.

In a keynote speech at the International Women's Peace Conference on Wednesday night, Ms. Williams told a crowd of about 1,000 that the Bush administration has been treacherous and wrong and acted unconstitutionally.

"Right now, I could kill George Bush," she said at the Adam's Mark Hotel and Conference Center in Dallas. "No, I don't mean that. How could you nonviolently kill somebody? I would love to be able to do that."

So much for peaceable notions, eh?

It doesn’t seem to dawn on either this “peace” activist, the crowd at this conference or the News that murdering a government official isn’t very peaceable, I suppose.

The News at least allowed that only half the crowd gave Williams a standing ovation, but does not report any outrage or disagreement with the attack meaning that, at the very least, the crowd exhibited tacit approval of the comments.

But, Williams wasn't done with her inanities yet.

"The Muslim world right now is suffering beyond belief," she said.

"Unless the president of the United States is held responsible for what he's doing and what he has done, there's no one in the Muslim world who will forgive him."

It's amazing how this self-professed peacenick doesn't seem to recall the odd Muslim suicide bomber that here and there has burst forth upon the scene, isn't it? Why, I guess a "peace" activist has no beef with Islamists who go about beheading people and blowing things up?

This half sentient sage of security also showed her complete ignorance of the American system even though she is full of… advice.

When an audience member told Ms. Williams that Vice President Dick Cheney would become president if George Bush were impeached, she said, "Can't you impeach them both?"

Finally, she gave us her unsolicited sympathy.

"It's twisted. It's all wrong," she said. "There are so many lies being told. It's hard to be an American and go out into the world right now."

I guess the fact that she is Irish means she didn't mind it much when 7/7 occurred in England, nor is she much startled at the Islamists who were caught ineptly trying to set off two car bombs in London recently.

But the Dallas Morning News took pains to give cover to this conference and to inform us that they claim to be non-partisan... even as another main "peace prize” winning speaker has already announced that they will be attacking President Bush as well.

So much for giving peace a chance.
