On Maher Show, Dan Savage Unleashes Hate on 'Catholic-F-ing Bishops, Priests, Cardinals' Over Gay Marriage

The Catholic Church in the United States has taken extraordinary steps in the last decade to stamp out any sexual abuse by clergy or other responsible adults at Catholic churches. The problem is becoming a rarity. But vicious homosexual activists take any Catholic opposition to their agenda and accuse every church official of either sexual abuse or complete tolerance of sexual abuse.

On Friday night’s Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO, America’s leading basher of religion welcomed leftist sex columnist Dan Savage, who claims to be against bullying but often sounds like a bully. He unleashed a tirade against “Catholic f—ing bishops, priests, cardinals” that oppose gay marriage:

MAHER: This week, Illinois became the 16th, I think, and Hawaii the 15th state to allow gay marriage. [Applause] Seems like they’re dropping at an alarming rate to conservatives. But I noticed in Hawaii, where I always go to perform on New Year's Eve and New Year's night, that it was not as easy as they thought it would be. We think of Hawaii as a laid-back place, but their Catholic bishop, I think his name is Bishop Silva, said something about how children who are, you know, adopted by gay parents have a greater chance of committing suicide, that's bullshit, right?

SAVAGE: That’s total bullshit. He’s confusing children of gay parents with children who are raped by Catholic priests. [Whoops, laughter, applause] Sorry. I am just done being lectured about children and their safety by Catholic-fucking bishops, priests, cardinals, The pope himself has let it go. The new pope, who I kinda dig, has let it go [apparently Francis is pro-gay marriage?] –

MAHER: Love the new pope!

SAVAGE: But that hasn’t really sunk down. The bishop of Illinois, our bishop in Illinois, on the day the governor of Illinois, Quinn, signed the gay marriage bill, legalizing same-sex marriage, held an exorcism in his cathedral, to exorcise the state of the demons of gay people having full civil equality. No exorcisms exorcising the demons of like, kiddie-fucking Catholic priests, they never got around to that exorcism. [Applause] They just – I hate to always go there. But they don't have moral high ground when they talk about the welfare and safety of children. They don't have that. They just don't. They have squandered that on the tips of their dicks.

MAHER, after laughing silently: Bring it on, Dan Savage, don't you hold back, sister!

SAVAGE: Usually I’m so polite!

Savage isn’t exactly sounding like a scholar in this rant. There are six Catholic bishops in Illinois – in Chicago, Joliet, Rockford, Springfield, Peoria, and Belleville. The Chicago Tribune reported that Thomas Paprocki, the bishop of Springfield, Illinois, held a service titled “yers of Supplication and Exorcism in Reparation for the Sin of Same-Sex Marriage.”

He maintained his remarks "are not meant to demonize anyone, but are intended to call attention to the diabolical influences of the devil that have penetrated our culture, both in the state and in the church."

Yet Paprocki also charged that "politicians responsible for enacting civil same-sex marriage legislation are morally complicit as co-operators in facilitating this grave sin."

"We must pray for forgiveness of these sins and deliverance from this evil which has penetrated our state and our church," Paprocki said.
The bishop said the church "stands ready to extend God's mercy to those who confess their sins with true repentance."

In Hawaii, Larry Silva, the Bishop of Honolulu, wrote an impassioned letter against same-sex marriage, including this paragraph that inspired Savage’s fountain of hate:

Children will be the greatest casualties, in that they will be deprived of being raised in a loving home by a mother and a father who loves them and whose love cooperated with God’s plan in creating them. When children are deprived of such a home, there will be more poverty, more social ills, more juvenile suicides, and more problems than we can imagine.

It's a little fascinating that Savage would get so angry over the concept of teen suicide, which is at the very heart of gay activism -- including his "It Gets Better" project -- insisting that religious opposition (and bullying) lead to gay kids having a larger rate of suicide.
