NBC's Meet the Press just released a clip of host David Gregory interviewing Stephen Colbert -- a Colbert who's trying to talk as a sincere citizen, without the idiot-conservative gloss. You could tell, because he declared "if Obama wins – I hope he keeps some of the promises he didn’t keep the first time." Gregory grinned broadly at that notion, but didn't ask for specifics.
Gregory began by asking Colbert if the election result mattered. Colbert said yes, "I'm not Ralph Nader." He said "There is a possibility that Obama would be say, more aggressive – a more aggressive reformer or changer in this second act of his presidency. " He also said he couldn't tell from the differing Mitt Romneys which one would be president:
And I also don’t really know how Mitt Romney would govern. He might govern as a technocrat. That seems to have sort of been his career. As like the guy from Pepsi who comes in to run GM, you know, he can’t tell us what he’s gonna do because he hasn’t seen the books yet.
But we don’t know, because he seems absolutely sincere as a moderate, and he also seemed sincere as a severe conservative. That’s not a dig. It’s honest confusion. Because he’s got a decent chance at winning, and if he does, I hope he’s a good president.
Someone's trying to sound like the anti-Limbaugh, someone who wouldn't wish a new president fails in his pushing his ideological agenda. He said it would be a "huge, cruel joke" if these two men weren't any different.
