Liberal talk radio host Randi Rhodes never went to college, but she was very mad at Rick Santorum on her show Friday after he accused colleges of liberal indoctrination. “He says that universities that receive public funds should be required to have intellectual diversity.” She satirized: “Those damn colleges! They’re full of objective facts! I want it balanced with a little superstition and some ignorance!”
Rhodes acknowledged Santorum earned three degrees, but then said he is a "waste of an education" and attacked Santorum’s home-schooled children as too dumb to have important jobs:
Oh my God, what a waste of an education Rick Santorum is! Everything he currently knows he could have learned from a pamphlet that religious institutions give out at the door of a bus station! So now you know why he home-schooled all of his kids. Let's just pray that none of his homeschooled kids grow up to be an airline pilot, okay?
That's all I'm asking. Please dear God, do not let any of these homeschooled kids grow up to be a surgeon, an airline pilot, or a nurse. Or somebody that's in charge of my trans-vaginal mandatory ultrasound. Seriously, no science-y things for them, you know, just religion, let them be all preachers or something.
In the 5 pm hour, she wound it up again: “You can’t send your kids to school...Don't send your kids to college, you're running the risk of them burning a Koran or something or they might burn the Bible, they might actually do it! They might actually go crazy they might become secular they might not believe in the Lord Jesus Christ or the Trinity!”
She then went off on a weird Puritan tangent: “I love Salem in the middle of the winter, the witch burnings” and how “I love soup” at a witch-burning in the winter time. She returned to attacking the Santorum children being trapped in their own home:
Is he going to homeschool his kids in college, too? Is that the deal? Is that my deal? Is that - is that how long I have to be tied to the house now? Not only tied to the house eight kids but now I gotta be tied to the house to homeschool? I don't even get a break when they're five and go to kindergarten anymore? No, they stay right in the house now!”
Again, she said the Santorums shouldn’t have any important jobs, “because Karen would have been their teacher!” In the real world, Santorum's oldest daughter, 20-year-old Elizabeth, is a junior at the University of Dallas (a Catholic college).
Rhodes then said her mother could not wait to get little Randi out of the house and into grade school. That’s not too hard to believe.
