Leftist Cartoon: Bishops Say 'Our Will Be Done, Keeping Women Down a Rung'

Leftist cartoonist Mark Fiore -- best known to NewsBusters readers as the animator who was regularly placing his cartoons on NPR.org until we slammed "How to Speak Tea Bag" -- is still delighting fans on lefty sites like the Daily Kos and Mother Jones.

His latest slams America's Catholic bishops in a cartoon titled "The Gospel According to Bishops." (Mother Jones called it "The Gospel According to Some Celibate Old Dudes.") Fiore is very sure that the Bible has nothing to say about contraception and that this whole case was somehow invented in the 1968 papal encyclical Humanae Vitae. (Here's Fiore's reading assignment.)

The bishop in this cartoon says “Verily, Jesus declared to his followers, that birth control is ‘intrinsically wrong.’” (A guy then announced in a faux-disclaimer: “Actually, really declared by some guy in 1968.”)

Then came Santorum to face Obama: "And sent from on high, would come a prophet, in simple sleeveless vestments, to help the faithful defeat the wicked king, before he spreads his health care seed!"

Fiore concludes with his animated bishop puppet rewriting the Our Father, as if the bishops would claim to surpass God the Father:

Our bishops, who are quite heavenly
Hallowed be our game
Our kingdom come, our will be done
Keeping women down a rung
With all our might, we’re so far right
We’re sex-perts, as you know
Our holy plan for all mankind
Is simply Just Say No!

This is the word of the bishops! [a groaning Amen]
