Baffled Behar: Media Bias 'Started' With Fox News?

February 21st, 2017 12:36 PM

Media bias, it’s been a problem since... Fox News? That was the claim from liberal View co-host Joy Behar on Tuesday as she bashed “pathological liar” Donald Trump. After hailing the need for the press to nail the President, whom she compared to Richard Nixon, token non-liberal Jededia Bila educated Behar: “[Some Americans] do feel betrayed by many in media. They do feel that media is biased.”

A baffled Behar responded, “But who started that? Fox News started that.” After Bila spat back, “That was not started by Fox News,” a befuddled Behar wondered, “Well, I’m trying to remember when this all started. When did this start?” A confused Sunny Hostin chimed in, "Yeah, when did that start?"

Apparently the liberal host has never heard of Dan Rather, Peter Jennings, Tom Brokaw or even Walter Cronkite, biased journalists who predated Fox News.

Earlier, Behar naturally compared Trump to Nixon during Watergate:

A lot of what's going on brings to mind Watergate for me. Because I remember and those people watching remember watching it. Nixon also attacked the press. He attacked the unnamed sources, you know, the leaks, same thing that's going on now. If it wasn't for leaks and unnamed sources you wouldn't have had deep throat and you wouldn't have had Watergate. You wouldn't have had Nixon being forced to resign.

She concluded, “So, the press is absolutely essential in this type of environment, particularly when the president of the United States is a pathological liar.”

JOY BEHAR: A lot of what’s going on brings to mind Watergate for me. Because I remember and those people watching remember watching it. Nixon also attacked the press. He attacked the unnamed sources, you know, the leaks, same thing that's going on now. If it wasn't for leaks and unnamed sources you wouldn't have had deep throat and you wouldn’t have had Watergate. You wouldn't have had Nixon being forced to resign. So, the press is absolutely essential in this type of environment, particularly when the president of the United States is a pathological liar and has dealing with Russia we don't know about it. Nobody knows exactly what it is. Maybe Chuck Schumer when he comes on can describe some of this for us. So it's very important and incumbent among Americans right now now to be vigilant. Especially those who are my age who were there and watched it.

JEDEDIAH BILA: I think everyone needs to stand together on free press. But I do think that we need to at least —  I feel like I need to make an effort to understand the people who this appeals to. This isn't appealing to a John McCain or a Chris Wallace. Maybe not even to us. But there's a segment of the country that does believe that they want freedom of press. But they do feel betrayed by many in media. They do feel that media is biased. They do feel that the vast majority of the media leans one way and that leads the reporting to be one way and they feel betrayed by that.

BEHAR: But who started that? Fox News started that.

BILA: That was not started by Fox News!

BEHAR: Well, I’m trying to remember when this all started. When did this start?

BILA: There’s been a media — Fox News came in. That did not start — That has been going on for a very long time.
