Liberal West Wing Actor Praises Kasich: He ‘Brings the Clown Car Under Control’

November 11th, 2015 12:55 AM

Liberal West Wing actor Bradley Whitford appeared on a special post-debate edition of Hardball, Tuesday, to trash the Republican candidates. However, he singled out one person for praise, cheering, “[John] Kasich was certainly agitated and seemed to try and, you know, bring the clown car under control, I thought.”

Overall, however, the actor sneered, “Generally this field I feel...makes Ronald Reagan look like Abbie Hoffman and Herman Cain look like Winston Churchill.” Speaking of Donald Trump, Whitford attacked, “I never understood why Trump's candidacy has been taken seriously. I think the hateful things, the xenophobic statements he has made are unforgivable.”

BRADLEY WHITFORD: Generally this field I feel makes — I felt makes Ronald Reagan look like Abbie Hoffman and Herman Cain look like Winston Churchill. But there were some competing voices from Rand Paul and Kasich was certainly agitated and seemed to try and, you know, bring the clown car under control, I thought.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: What did you make of Trump tonight? Tonight?

WHITFORD: Honestly, I was watching it. I never understood why Trump's candidacy has been taken seriously. I think the hateful things, the xenophobic statements he has made are unforgivable. It's a mystery to me that he has done as well as he has. I felt like he looked a little wobbly up there.
