Ed Schultz Goes Berserk in Response to Radio Caller

June 6th, 2009 9:58 AM

It seems that the incredibly low ratings of the Ed Show on MSNBC are getting to Ed Schultz to such an extent that he is now taking his frustration and anger out on callers to his radio show. You can listen to Big Ed go absolutely berserk in a bizarre, yet entertaining, overreaction to some relatively mild criticism from a caller. The transcript is below but be sure you also listen to the June 3 audio in response to caller Drew from Monterrey because it provides the full flavor of Schultz's volcanic fury:

SCHULTZ: Let's go to Drew in Monterey, Calif. You're on the Ed Schultz show. How you doing, Drew?

CALLER: Hey, thanks for taking my call, Ed. I'm deeply disturbed right now. You know, I just turned on your program and I hear you laughing about the fact that we just sold Hummer to China and that we're going to be buying, you know, Hummers from China to get more efficient gas mileage. I mean, I gotta admit, it's good to keep a sense of humor about things, but I do not find anything funny about the United States selling off pieces of its, you know, largest company. Not only are we selling that company, we're selling jobs to China and you're laughing about it?

SCHULTZ: Drew, stick it up yours, will ya? There isn't anybody that's fought for American jobs on the radio or on television more than I have. Shove it, buddy! Just shove it!

CALLER: All right, man. Yup.

(Crosstalk)

SCHULTZ:  You know what? You know what? Let me tell you something. If you can find another broadcaster that takes it to the firewall like I do, you give me that name for the middle class, for the working folk, for the union folk, and I will laugh at that because it's SAD that YOU Drew have sat back and done NOTHING but call a talk show and complain! Where's YOUR commitment, Drew? Where are YOU fighting for the American people? What are YOU doing?

CALLER: I'm fighting for the American people every day...

SCHULTZ:  And we're not going to see you at any of the townhall meetings that we're doing on healthcare? Are you just going to sit back and complain? Are you going to take your Saturdays and do that? Are you going to march. Are you going to call your senator? Are you going to find out where Barbara Boxer stands on single payer? How about Feinstein? Where's she at? Why don't you get off your ass and do something?

CALLER: You're reporting stuff that everybody...

SCHULTZ: MY REPORTING IS SPOT ON!!! I DON'T NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU!!! I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT MY FREAKIN' REPORTING IS!!!

CALLER:  Alright and I'm sorry to get you so upset but you know...

SCHULTZ: NO, I'M NOT UPSET!!! I'M MAD AS HELL!!!

CALLER: I know because...

SCHULTZ: I'M MAD BECAUSE IT'S PEOPLE LIKE YOU THAT SIT BACK AND ATTACK THE MESSENGER INSTEAD OF GOING AFTER THE BUSHIES THAT GOT US INTO THIS POSITION, THAT ARE AFRAID TO HOLD ACCOUNTABILITY AND GO AFTER THE PEOPLE THAT SAID THEY WERE GOING TO FIX THIS! BUT YOU KNOW WHAT THE EASY THING IS, DREW? THE EASY THING IS TO SIT OUT THERE IN THE GOOD WEATHER OF MONTERREY, CALIFORNIA AND CHECK OUT THE SUNSET...  HEY MAN! WE'RE REALLY NOT DOING ENOUGH! I BETTER CALL ED AND BLAME HIM!

CALLER:  I'm not blaming you...

SCHULTZ: GET OUT OF HERE! GET OUT OF HERE! GOODBYE! ...FREAKIN' ROUNDHEAD!

LOL! And Schultz is sure to blow up in an incredible tirade when MSNBC finally decides to can him due to low ratings.
