Former Obama Adviser/Press Secretary Robert Gibbs Named MSNBC Contributor

February 12th, 2013 9:14 PM

Moments before Tuesday's State of the Union address, MSNBC's Rachel Maddow made a huge announcement.

As she introduced former Barack Obama senior campaign adviser/press secretary Robert Gibbs, she said, "I am for the first time tonight able to introduce you as an MSNBC contributor. Congratulations on that" (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):

Gibbs responded, "Thank you, I'm happy to be here."

How fitting that someone so high up in the Obama administration would end up on the so-called news network that cheers for and defends the current White House resident more than any other.

*****Update: Politico is reporting Gibbs will also be an NBC News contributor.
