Kathy Griffin Boasts to Letterman 'I Tried To Blow Anderson Cooper'

As NewsBusters previously reported, vulgarian comedienne Kathy Griffin on CNN's New Year's Eve broadcast kissed Anderson Cooper's crotch.

On the CBS Late Show Wednesday, Griffin was quite pleased by her antics proudly telling host David Letterman that she sent an email message to Ryan Seacrest proclaiming, "I tried to blow Anderson Cooper" (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):

It certainly was a surprise to no one that this matter was going to come up during this interview as Griffin told Cooper that she was going to be on Letterman this week and wanted a moment.

As such, when Griffin mentioned that she had Cooper on her Bravo program last season, Letterman said, "And then you went down on Anderson Cooper or something as the ball dropped. What did you do to Anderson Cooper?"

"If you think this is the part where I'm gonna apologize for trying to go down on Anderson Cooper, you are sorely mistaken," Griffin protested to audience laughter and applause.

"I tried, ladies and gays," Griffin proudly continued. "I tried for you."

Letterman then showed the tape of what happened that evening "just for the fun of it."

When it was over, and after the audience stopped applauding with Griffin practically taking a bow, Letterman asked, "What kind of reaction did you get first from Anderson Cooper? What did he think of that?"

Griffin mentioned that she went on Cooper's CNN program Tuesday evening. "He wanted me to save, you know, as many of the, how shall I say, 'Putting a smile on his sardine' jokes for this show."

A few minutes later, Letterman said, "Let's say a man on television did that to you. What would the reaction be?"

"If it was Anderson Cooper," replied Griffin, "myself and every other gay guy and women would say, I'd unzip so fast. Boom. Pants down."

This of course was met with more laughter and applause.

As the segment drew to a close, Griffin commented that she had received an email message from Ryan Seacrest who had hosted ABC's Rocking Eve show opposite Cooper and Griffin.

"He emailed me, and I thought very coyly said, 'How did your show go?'" related Griffin. "And then I said, 'Well, I tried to blow Anderson Cooper. How was yours?'"

"I think her ride is here," quipped Letterman.

But the lewdness wasn't done, for Letterman then said, "See, that's the point. Nobody's talking about Ryan Seacrest."

"But there's a sardine that needed to be kissed," replied Griffin.

"But you stuck it to Ryan Seacrest," Letterman responded.

Griffin quickly said "Ooh" as the audience laughed.

Add it all up, rather than taking any heat for her behavior on the self-proclaimed most trusted name in news, Griffin is being celebrated and applauded.

It really is a grave new world.
