Chris Matthews on Newt Gingrich: 'He’s Not a Human Being, He’s a Gaseous State'

November 16th, 2011 6:55 PM

Now that Newt Gingrich has taken frontrunner status in some Republican presidential candidacy polls, it's the job of the liberal media to lay off Herman Cain and Rick Perry and start focusing their attacks on him.

Doing his part Wednesday was MSNBC's Chris Matthews who in the middle of a twelve minute opening smear job of the former House Speaker on Hardball actually said, "He’s not a human being, he’s a gaseous state" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

NEWT GINGRICH: What you have today is that the rich in Wall Street and the powerful at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac had so many politicians beholding to them that in fact nobody was going to check them. And so they got away with things that were absolute baloney. It’s a tragedy.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: He’s not a human being, he’s a gaseous state. Isn’t he? I mean Joan, this is like a gaseous state around the world. I mean, this is Newtism.

He's a gaseous state around the world? A Newtism?

And this is what qualifies as reporting on MSNBC today.

Who better to add some balance to Matthews' attacks than the perilously liberal David Corn and Joan Walsh?

This outfit doesn't even try to pretend it's a news network anymore.
