Jon Stewart Rips Rick Sanchez For 'Nine Meters In English Is?'

March 2nd, 2010 10:19 AM

Comedian Jon Stewart tore apart CNN's Rick Sanchez Monday leading one to believe the "Daily Show" host might be a NewsBusters reader.

On Saturday, we noticed a pathetic performance by Sanchez during that afternoon's coverage of the tsunamis predicted to hit Hawaii after the massive earthquake in Chile.

"By the way, nine meters in English is?" the manic CNNer actually asked a scientist brought on to explain the situation.

Two days later, someone at Comedy Central also noticed Sanchez's absurd behavior, and turned it into a great sketch for Stewart (video embedded below the fold, h/t Story Balloon):

JON STEWART, HOST: CNN, the most trusted name in - over-caffeinated control freaks! But, see that's the thing about news in a disaster: you need the information fast and INaccurate...That must have been one hell of a tsunami because it seems to have caused Hawaii to become the Galapagos Islands. [...]

I just realized something: Rick Sanchez delivers the news like a guy at a party who's doing a lot of coke and traps you in a corner and explains REALLY INTENSELY intensely how an ant is the strongest animal on Earth. "I'm, I'm telling you man, they're tiny, but they can carry a stick like eighteen times their own size. It's like, it's like you picking up a car. Can you pick up a car? Answer. No, you can't. Now, I'm going to go to the bathroom for a second but we're not done talking about how crazy strong ants are. Alright, buddy?'

Well, we don't know if the Show first saw Sanchez's performance at NB, but we appreciate Stewart agreeing with us about just how pathetic it was.
