MRC's Brent Bozell Tells Steve Malzberg About 'Shocking' Lack of Media Labeling In Democrat Scandals

MRC president Brent Bozell appeared on the Steve Malzberg Show on Newsmax TV August 14 to discuss the media's coverage of the protests in Ferguson, Missouri as well as the lack of party labels in TV news stories on Democratic scandals.

They started by marveling at Andrea Mitchell’s gooey birthday wishes for Castro, including a shout-out for 20-year-old Elian Gonzalez, who the Clinton administration seized in Miami and sent back to his father in Cuba back in 2000. (Video below)

Elian’s mother died trying to take her son to America. Bozell couldn’t believe Mitchell merely said the custody dispute began after she died on a raft. “If you’re doing a story on Fidel Castro, how do you omit the fact that she died escaping Fidel Castro? People don’t escape Miami to go to Fidel Castro. They escape and die, trying to get away from Fidel Castro.”

After a chat about how Ferguson started out as "Trayvon Martin all over again," they turned to Bozell's National Review piece on media bias and scandals. They hide the D and showcase the R:

BOZELL: The labeling of party affiliation in a story such as this is absolutely critical. When you’re reporting on a political scandal, involving a political leader, how can you not give the party affiliation? That’s part of the DNA of the story. We’ve seen over and over, year after year, this extraordinary occurrence – where they report correctly on a Republican, that he s a Republican, every single time – which they should do. And yet when it comes to a Democrat involved in a scandal, they not only don’t give the label over and over again, but a lot of times they don’t even report on the scandal.

As I point out in the piece, for them to do it once is sloppy. It’s reckless. It’s irresponsible. For them to do it twice, I don’t believe in coincidences. But what we produced in this piece was at least a half a dozen. I think it was eight examples, and there are more of them doing it on a regular basis. It’s shocking.
