On 'Hannity,' MRC's Brent Bozell Makes Impassioned Stand Against Vile Shows Like '2 Broke Girls' on CBS

In Thursday night’s “Media Mash” slot on “Hannity,” Sean Hannity and MRC president Brent Bozell turned away frrom media bias and focused instead on new demands that the FCC do something about the CBS sitcom “2 Broke Girls,” and Monday night’s episode was a doozy, complete with a joke where one waitress wisecracked about snapping her vagina back on.

Hannity wondered that in today’s anything-goes cable-TV culture, is there really any way the networks would have to bend to complaints like this? Bozell made an impassioned defense of the need to insist on standards for young children, who shouldn’t wallow in these shows. “We have to speak out about that,” he said. (Video and transcript below)

HANNITY: You know, I'm a little bit torn compared to where I was years ago on this. I know that this is network television. Network television doesn't have the me impact that it used to have. And you can get anything you want on cable. And most people do. Your reaction?

BOZELL: I'm not torn at all. Sean. Look, you watch that and I suspect you find it disgusting. I watch that and find it disgusting.

HANNITY: I wouldn't watch it. That is the point. I wouldn't watch it.

BOZELL: Okay, but I would say 99.9 percent of your audience watching right now finds it disgusting. Now, imagine you're a 12-year-old girl. Imagine that you turn on television, it is 8:30 p.m. at night, at what was once known as the “family hour.” Your parents don't know what you're watching, because your parents don't watch that show. But you turn on the show and now you're hit with the very same messages, jokes about masturbation, jokes about penises and ejaculation, jokes about calling elderly women whores, and with laugh tracks associated to it.

Sean, we have to be offended by that. We have to outspoken about that. You cannot say because of the internet, this is okay.

HANNITY: I'm not saying because of the internet. But I am saying that most people have cable. And with cable you have a wide variety of options. If you have cable, you have HBO, you have any Showtime, Cinemax, you know what is out there, I know what is out there. And I just think that television viewing has changed somewhat. And I'm not sure an fcc complaint is going to stop it. Do you think it will?

BOZELL: Well, let's take it to its logical extension. Why don't we then put on Hustler at this time of night, and say “you’ve got choices, you can go to other television stations.” The reason we don't do that is because we have standards. Because it doesn't matter if you have other choices, sean, there are standards of decency. And by the way, adults shouldn't be going through this either. This is not funny stuff. This is toilet humor.

CBS is happy enough with this show that they had its stars Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs host the "People's Choice Awards," but their show did not win. When you go to the CBS website for "2 Broke Girls," that "family hour" show, this is the sexual picture you get:
