Actress Amanda Bynes must not have had much time for civics back when she was a child star in the 1990s; why else would she ask President Barack Obama to help her out in her upcoming court case for DUI?
While Bynes has made a successful transition from kiddie shows to mainstream movies, she hasn't figured out the basics of America's federal system. The former Nickelodeon star took to Twitter yesterday and asked Obama to fire the Los Angeles County police officer who arrested her on April 6.
No one knows whether or not Bynes has actually met the president but given his affinity for palling around with mega-rich liberal celebrities, that is a distinct possibility.
While Obama may not be able to help Bynes get the officer fired, perhaps he could have another beer summit with the two of them?
Oh but wait, Bynes says she doesn't drink. Well so much for that.
At any rate, here are the details from earlier this year when the arrest occured:
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department tells E! News that a black-and-white was preparing to turn right in West Hollywood at approximately 3 a.m. when the 26-year-old thesp, driving a black BMW, allegedly tried to pass and collided with the right rear panel of the cruiser, causing minor paint damage to both vehicles.
Upon further investigation, the officer suspected the Easy A star had been drinking and subsequently arrested her for driving under the influence.
Bynes was booked at the West Hollywood Sheriff's Station and bail was set at $5,000. She was released this morning without being required to pay the bond and was issued a citation. She'll still have to report to court, though no date has been set. An investigation is ongoing.
