Nicolle Wallace Bemoans Jail for Prison-Break Accomplice: 'Can't She Just Wear Ankle Bracelet?'

Our NewsBusters readers are a prescient bunch.  On an item posted earlier this morning about Nicolle Wallace calling Hillary a "terrible" candidate, one reader commented "Nicolle is pretending to be conservative again. Not to worry, she'll be back to her normal liberal self soon."

And sure enough, just seven minutes later, Wallace was letting her bleeding-heart side show.  Discussing the news that Joyce Mitchell—the accomplice who helped two convicted murderers escape—had been sentenced to prison, Wallace said "I feel bad for her.  Can't she just wear an ankle bracelet?" Nicolle even threw in an empathetic "awww" for the plight of "romancer" Mitchell.

Fortunately, Willie Geist was there to gently explain to Nicolle that you can't help convicted murderers escape from jail.

WILLIE GEIST: Also from the Times, the prison worker who helped two convicted killers escape from a New York State prison has been formally sentenced. Joyce Mitchell has been ordered to spend up to seven years in prison but could be released in less than three after striking a deal with prosecutors. In July, you'll remember, Mitchell pleaded guilty to helping David Sweat and Richard Matt escaped, but sidestepped charges connected to the plot to kill her husband and for having sexual contact with inmates. The sentence was already set with a plea bargain, but that did not stop Mitchell's tearful plea for leniency.

JOYCE MITCHELL: Your Honor, I would wear an ankle bracelet and [inaudible] for the rest of my life if I could just go home to my family. My husband and my children are my life, my world. I was fearful of Mr. Matt threatening to kill my husband.

WILLIE: Remember, Joyce Mitchell was supposed to drive the getaway car for Sweat and Matt. She got cold feet that night.

NICOLLE WALLACE: I feel bad for her. I'm not positive why, but I feel like -- can't she just wear an ankle bracelet?

PANEL IN UNISON: No, no, no.

WALLACE: They're pretty fool-proof.

MARK HALPERIN: You're America's leading empathetic person.

WALLACE: I feel bad for her. You know, those guys were romancers, and, awww --

WILLIE: You can't help convicted murderers escape from jail
