MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough Trashes Trump’s ‘Hateful’ Budget

May 24th, 2017 5:28 PM

Going after President Trump’s new budget, Joe Scarborough moved to tee up Senator Van Hollen of Maryland for a vicious attack on Wednesday’s edition of Morning Joe. “Chris, I’m a fiscal conservative,” Scarborough began innocuously, “But when I look at this budget, the blue print that the President has proposed, it is nothing less than hateful.” He then proceeded to expound upon the budget’s many vices crying out, “It guts basic services, it slashes cancer research, it slashes health care for the poor, it slashes money for rural hospitals, it slashes money for rural hospice care, it slashes money for anything involving health care in rural America!”

The Senator took the cue and proceeded forward with a monologue outlining everyone and everything that would be utterly devastated by the president’s proposed budget cuts:

I've never seen anything as hateful and abominable as this. This slams everybody in America, rural America, urban America, everyone in America, except, of course, folks who are very well off. It does include a tax cut for millionaires. If you're a millionaire you're going to get an average annual tax cut of at least $50,000 a year. So if you can jet off to mar-a-lago every weekend, you're just fine. But everybody else gets hit and as you said, it's old people, it's kids, it's working people. It's a total violation of the sort of the trust to the American people and I should say a betrayal of so many of Donald Trump's own promises from the campaign trail.

Wow, so you’ve never seen anything as hateful and abominable as this Senator? Talk about hyperbole. These budget cuts really must be awful then considering that we currently live in a world of blowing up little girls at concerts, burning people alive in cages, and mass beheadings.

Here are the excerpts from the May 24 exchange:

8:37 AM

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Chris, I'm a fiscal conservative. I went to Washington and my goal was to balance the budget, work with people that wanted to balance the budget, cut federal spending, fight for entitlement reform, do a lot of things that are pretty unpopular. I set that up just to say, but when I look at this budget, the blue print that the president has proposed, it is nothing less than hateful. It guts basic services, it slashes cancer research, it slashes health care for the poor, it slashes money for rural hospitals, it slashes money for rural hospice care, it slashes money for anything involving health care in rural America. My part of America, middle America. Is this -- is there a chance that this budget is going to pass and health care is going to be decimated in rural America?

CHRIS VAN HOLLEN: Well, Joe, we're going to fight this tooth and nail. You and I have seen a lot of budgets from democratic and Republican presidents.
