March for ____? Yahoo! News's Pruitt Omits Name of Famous Annual March in 'Weekend in Politics' Roundup

The annual March for Life has gone on every year in late January since January 22, 1974, the first anniversary of Roe v. Wade. The March, which turns out thousands every year, marked its 40th anniversary on Friday with yet another march. By no means is it an ad hoc protest that happens to come together.

Yet in noting the event in a "weekend in politics" roundup on Yahoo! News's "The Ticket" blog this morning, writer Phil Pruitt failed to mention the march's name, and suggested that it merely "coincides with the 40th anniversary" of the infamous court case. By contrast, in a subsequent paragraph Pruitt described a pro-gun control march scheduled for Saturday by name, noting that  residents of Newtown, Connecticut would be in attendance to push for new gun control measures (h/t email tipster Matt Shedor):

Abortion opponents plan to march Friday in Washington in a demonstration that coincides with the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court decision that created a constitutional right to abortion.

Thousands are expected for the noon rally on the National Mall and in front of the Supreme Court building, and former Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum is one of the speakers.

Vice President Joe Biden will be in Richmond, Va., on Friday for a roundtable discussion on gun control. He’ll meet with experts who worked on gun safety following the 2007 shooting at Virginia Tech.

Recently announced White House proposals call for background checks for all gun sales and bans on military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines.

A “March on Washington for Gun Control” is planned for Saturday in support of the White House proposals. Speakers will include Democrat Reps. Chris Van Hollen and Eleanor Holmes Norton, Children's Defense Fund President Marian Wright Edelman and actress Kathleen Turner.

Residents of Newtown, Conn., where 20 children and six adults were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, are scheduled to attend the rally.

Of course, an estimated 55 million unborn children have been legally murdered via abortion since the Roe decision 40 years ago. By contrast, most law-abiding, 2nd Amendment-exercising gun owners never shoot a gun in anger -- and when they do, it's in self-defense, whereas every person who successfully performs an abortion takes an innocent human life in the process.

Pruitt is right about this, though, Roe created, out of thin air, a "constitutional" right to deprive an unborn human being of his or her natural right to life via abortion.
