Corporate Synergy: GMA Promotes ‘Scandal’ President Campaigning for Hillary in Iowa

December 13th, 2015 5:54 PM

On Sunday, ABC’s Good Morning America served as the latest example of shameless corporate synergy by touting in its lead 2016 report how actor Tony Goldwyn from the network’s lead drama Scandal spent Saturday giving Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton “a big boost” by campaigning for her Iowa.

In a story that otherwise dealt with the findings of a new poll by The Des Moines Register on the GOP field, correspondent Mary Bruce played up the idea of a rivalry between Republican candidates Ted Cruz and Donald Trump before gushing that Clinton was “getting a big boost from the president — President Fitzgerald Grant” from ABC’s Scandal (played by Goldwyn).

Along with mentioning how he spent his Saturday talking to voters in Iowa about Clinton, Bruce played a clip of Goldwyn gushing how he finds Clinton to be “by far the most qualified, the most experienced, and has the right ideas to take this country where I believe it needs to go.”

For those who aren’t in tune with the far-left, pro-abortion show (which includes this writer), Goldwyn plays the rather unethical President Fitz Grant, who cheated on the First Lady with the show’s lead character in Olivia Pope (played by Kerry Washington).

It should also be noted that Pope infamously underwent an abortion in the November 19 episode set to the tune of Silent Night.

[ON-SCREEN HEADLINE: Breaking Overnight; Cruz Surges to Top in New Poll; Bolts to 10 Point Lead over Trump]

MARY BRUCE: Well, after dominating the Iowa polls for five months, Donald Trump is now out of first place. This new poll is now the second one just this week to show Ted Cruz on top in the key state. This morning, Donald Trump is in an unfamiliar place, second place. Ted Cruz plowing past Trump in the new Des Moines Register poll. Now, with a ten-point lead in Iowa. It's a jaw-dropping record-breaking rise for the Texas Senator. Up 21 percent leap since October. Cruz tweeting overnight, “thank you” to his supporters, asking them for help to keep “the momentum” going. Meanwhile, Trump was quick to blast the new numbers. Also tweeting overnight, “don't trust Des Moines Register poll,” saying it's “biased.” Trump has been clear he's not a fan of the paper.

DONALD TRUMP: The Des Moines Register is the worst. They are the worst. The worst. No, they're very dishonest.

BRUCE: Despite falling to second, Trump maintains strong support in the key state. Cruz and Trump have been friendly rivals but their bromance is on shaky ground. Trump has been publicly taking aim at Cruz this week.

TRUMP: There's a difference of temperaments and I would give myself the advantage in temperament and, you know, putting people together.

BRUCE: This after Cruz was caught on camera questioning if Trump has what it takes to be commander in chief.

REPUBLICAN SENATOR TED CRUZ (Tex.): That's a question of strength but it's also a question of judgment.

BRUCE: Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton getting a big boost from the president — President Fitzgerald Grant. Scandal actor Tony Goldwyn campaigning for the Democratic frontrunner in Iowa.

TONY GOLDWYN: She's by far the most qualified, the most experienced, and has the right ideas to this country where I believe it needs to go.

BRUCE: Now this big shakeup in the GOP race comes just two days before the Republican candidates face off in their fifth debate on Tuesday and you can bet all eyes will be on trump and Cruz. Everybody wondering if they're going to play nice.
