FNC’s Gutfeld & O’Reilly Slam Joy Behar for ‘Right-Wing Hypocrite’ Comment

December 5th, 2009 9:10 AM

On Friday’s The O’Reilly Factor on FNC, during the regular "Dumbest Things of the Week" segment, host Bill O’Reilly and guest Greg Gutfeld of FNC’s Red Eye, possibly picking up on an item posted the day before on Newsbusters, highlighted ABC’s The View co-host Joy Behar’s recent defense of Tiger Woods as she opined that at least the golf star is not being a "hypocrite" like "one of these pro-marriage, right-wing kind of guys who is anti-gay."

After playing a clip from The View, Gutfeld responded: "I just can't believe she's still single. What a catch. ... This angers me, one, that she says that if you're a conservative you're anti-gay, which is bigotry, her own form of bigotry. Number two, she insults the left. She's saying that the left, because they have no standards, cannot be hypocrites. Therefore, they can get away with things."

Below is a transcript of the relevant portion of the segment from the Friday, December 4, The O’Reilly Factor on FNC:

BILL O'REILLY: "Back of the Book" segment tonight, "The Dumbest Things of the Week," starring Fox News correspondent Courtney Friel, in for Juliet Huddy tonight, and Red Eye anchor Greg Gutfeld ... Now, you have selected, Gutfeld, Joy Behar. She's kind of an easy target. But she's talking about Tiger Woods on "The View." Roll the tape.

JOY BEHAR, THE VIEW: Let me say this about Tiger on his behalf. He has never held himself up as one of these pro-marriage, right-wing kind of guys who is anti-gay and-

ELISABETH HASSELBECK, THE VIEW: Where are you going?

BEHAR: In other words, this guy is not a hypocrite in his personal life.

HASSELBECK: Only right-wingers can be hypocrites? That's a lesson we're learning today? What are you talking about?

BEHAR: I'm talking about the Larry Craig syndrome, you know, where the guy's tapping in the bathroom. Meanwhile, he votes against gay legislation.

O'REILLY: All right. So that's a dumb one.

GUTFELD: Yeah. I just can't believe she's still single. What a catch. I'm telling you, everything she says-

O'REILLY: No, I think Behar got married.

GUTFELD: Really?

O'REILLY: I think she did.

GUTFELD: I feel sorry for that man. This angers me, one, that she says that if you're a conservative you're anti-gay, which is bigotry, her own form of bigotry. Number two, she insults the left. She's saying that the left, because they have no standards, cannot be hypocrites. Therefore, they can get away with things.

O'REILLY: (UNINTELLIGIBLE) - say they have no standards?

GUTFELD: No, that’s exactly-

O'REILLY: Well, that's the line, though, if you're somebody who is opposing any kind of activity and then you get in trouble, you’re a hypocrite.

GUTFELD: Yeah, but that’s being human.

COURTNEY FRIEL: I'm sure Elin Woods is really happy to hear that Tiger is not a hypocrite. But what has political affiliation or supporting gay marriage have to do with cheating on your wife?

O'REILLY: Yeah.

FRIEL: It doesn't, nothing. They're not the same thing.

O'REILLY: That's an excellent point, Courtney. So that's why we selected it as dumb. It was dumb, and it has nothing to do – it's a non sequitur.
