That incredulous look in Queen Nan's eyes during the "Equivocation to a Joint Session of Congress" was not because Wilson spoke up, or even because he challenged the President, it was because no one was supposed to know enough about the Bill to accurately point out the LIES Barry was spewing.

November 7, 2009 - 21:32 ET by GregEHow can you stand it? I flipped on CSpan a couple times today and can't stomach the socialists pushing this nonsense as if it's some great savior, alongside their messiah president. It is absolutely sickening what we now have running the government of the greatest nation the world has ever known. The world would never know it, if all it has as its evidence, this idiotic bunch of socialist/marxist loving, morons, who know nothing of what our Constitution is and hate it nonetheless.
Govt of the people, by the people, and for the people? BS, show me evidence.

I am glad I did so today...very much.
Then again, if an important game had been on I wanted to watch, it would be the game.

November 8, 2009 - 02:01 ET by NL207Next Novemeber we will have an opportunity to remove these vermin. We should make the most of it.
It will take 112 seats in the house to gain a 2/3 majority. 40 are a gimmee. The rest we have to work for. The object of this exercise is far mor ethan repeal of this abomination. It is to impeach leftist Federal Judges or legislate away their Jurisdictions. It will take a 2/3 majority to purge the federal judiciary.
CA~~
November 7, 2009 - 20:32 ET by BKeyserThey're gonna pass this, but it doesn't really mean squat right now. The Senate isn't going to pass anything this year, and the Members and Senators will be going home over the holidays to a very vocal majority against the Dems "reform".
The Stupak ammendment, even if passed, will be omitted if the bill ever gets to conference. This whole thing tonite is largely symbolic.
are you sure BKeyser?
November 7, 2009 - 20:36 ET by Candance MooreYou mean much like the House vote on the bailout was symbolic?
Candance~~
November 7, 2009 - 20:38 ET by BKeyserThis Bill isn't going to Barry tomorrow. Usually the House votes last, but in this case, Queen Nan wants the vote before too much damage is done from Tuesday's election. Normally there would only be
November 7, 2009 - 21:45 ET by GregENormally there would only be one bill, and it would head to the Senate after the House votes. But in this case, the Senate has one of their own. So each chamber has to pass their own bills this time, then, iron out ONE bill which will then have to pass both chambers before going up to be signed by Kim Jong Il.

I always read your comments with interest and know full well where you stand. Like I wrote originally, this may be so unwieldy and poisonous that it may die the death it deserves.
I just wanted to point out that whatever the written points that Congress may be debating (I'm in the office with no TV), the real bad stuff would come when the thing begins to be implemented and again when the courts start hearing the challenges to, say, anti-abortion or illegal alien language or amendments. Anything that is 2000 pages will be the devil's playground.

A pretext for government control of every aspect of our lives
November 7, 2009 - 23:10 ET by needleBesides the obvious ways OBamaCare mocks the Constitution and destroys our freedoms directly, what bothers me most about ObamaCare is that will provide our EVER-INCREASINGLY FASCISTIC government with a PRETEXT FOR CONTROLLING ANY ASPECT OF OUR LIVES in any way that can possibly impinge on one’s health. (These are my words not Rush Limbaugh’s, but I credit him for pointing this out, and I am sure that he is right about this.)
(I highly recommend to anyone, but especially those who frequent this board, Jonah Goldberg’s Liberal Fascism. It gives one a really clear account of how the Progressives first, and then the Liberals, are fundamentally Fascists, and have been promoting and pushing Fascism for a century. Since I have read it, I take every opportunity to make clear the connection. RINOs and suckers for Fascism.)

I also know the Repubs are all up in arms over this. But dammit, they had their chance, they had their chance to never let this happen. Now they are saying, "just get us back in there in 2010, we've learned our lessons and we'll fix this mess". Bull twinkie. They'll continue to do the same damn thing they did from '96 on. All I know is, we are in a hell of a pickle and not sure what to do about it. I reckon we'll have to put Conservatives in, REAL Conservatives, and see where we'll go from there.

November 7, 2009 - 21:41 ET by GregESame here Rex. It's beyond old. We have liberals and liberal-lite. I'm glad Republicans are against this crap, but you're exactly right about '96 and beyond. Jefferson said power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. We've seen it on both sides. Now the Democrats are doing it, and they don't give a rats a** what Americans think. Americans don't even know what to think. Those who are all giddy about this crap of a healthcare bill, have no clue what they're giddy about. None. They'd support 9mm handguns to the temples of people who won't buy healthcare, if it was in the bill. Most are idiots, and those in Washington know it. Many Republicans against this crap have their names on all kinds of crap spending, now they suddenly want us to think they've always been conservative? BS. This is how this crap plays out. Elections in America are a freakin sporting event in the minds of most. It's all about who won. Well, the Constitution, and America itself, loses.
What I intend to do...
November 7, 2009 - 22:41 ET by needleWhat I intend to do is:
A) Completely stop sending any money to the RNC, RNCC, RNSC and any other roughly related Republican front (in various phone calls that I have received recently I have made this perfectly clear -- the effect on the caller is something to enjoy); and
B) Selectively support directly any candidate that Sarah Palin explicitly endorses.
Considering the amount of money involved, this will not make any more actual difference than my cession of eating hamburgers would affect Global warming. However, if it just so happens that a significant number of other genuine conservatives took a similar stance, I believe that it would make a real difference.

I had a feeling he'd do this. I have written him over and over about this issue fearing he would capitulate. His big issue has always been health care and he comes from a heavily Democratic/African American district.
Obviously, he wants to be re-elected and thinks this will make his Democrat constituents happy. He probably got a few extra bones from Nancy and Obama to take home too.
He's toast now. He's lost his conservative base and the African-American community will abandon him in 2010 in favor of any black candidate who opposes him. Obama and Pelosi will have no use for him either. What a sucker! :-(

November 8, 2009 - 00:27 ET by JohnnyinBostonIs there anything more nauseating than watching these Dems lavish praise on each other after passage of HR 3962?!? Acting as if they just yanked the American people back from the edge of a deadly precipice, when in fact the preponderance of their gutless caucus had to be bought off in order to vote for this abomination. Even if they had just passed a bill which was completely bipartisan and legitimately positive for the American people it would still be in terribly poor taste to act in this manner. Someone should teach these people the meaning of humility...or even how to spell the word.
However, to hear memeber after member repeat some variation of "Nancy Pelosi is the greatest speaker in the history of this chamber" made it all the more worthwhile. That gave me a heckuva good chuckle. In fact, I'm still laughing at the sheer preposterousness of the statement.

November 8, 2009 - 17:06 ET by matthewdeanI understand, I think, why you felt it necessary to chide what KJ_sez had to say at 1:03 ET, but sometimes, IMO, things must be said in a straightforward way that brooks no misinterpretation whatsoever.
Otherwise, every bit of air I breathe in brings with it the stench of political correctness.
I agree completely, not only with what both KJ and docjohn52 had to say, but with how they said it. I'm not sure, but I got the impression you were merely advising KJ along the lines of "be aware" of who might "tune" in.
If you disagree, general company, I not only respect your right to do so, I respect you for saying what you think.
I am sure you are aware that this administration, and the LibDems that are railed against in the threads on NB, are taking this Country in a direction many of us absolutely refuse to condone.
I say "many of us" because reportedly there are more conservatives than liberals in the U.S.
Politically speaking, I cannot believe what I see and hear coming out of Washington most days.
Whether or not the politicos in D.C. ARE stone deaf, arrogant, and elitist, or not; they certainly act that way.
I do not presume to speak for any conservative other than myself, but I know damned well I will NOT put up with the crap I see headed my way because of the moves of some clueless, ideological a**munches in Federal La-La land.
I will do what is required.
If it means taking weapon in hand, so be it.

November 8, 2009 - 02:12 ET by big.league.sliderIt's OK to be mad at the Dems, but just remember that this whole federal healthcare spending debacle went unchecked, and got a big boost under GW and a Republican Congress. They had at least 4 years to nip it in the bud, and did nothing except make it worse. So blame Tom DeLay and Bill Frist if you want to blame someone.

November 8, 2009 - 05:20 ET by Jack BauerWelcome to British Healthcare, America.
61 years since the UK National Health Service was "born" -- and they're still trying to "get it right."
Whole generations and been born, lived and died under the government run NHS, with a mind-numbing bureaucracy and the third largest workforce in the world -- and they are still trying to "get it right."
Population UK: about 65 million.
Population USA: about 300 million.
Good luck with that.

I think that the abortion
November 8, 2009 - 07:35 ET by ricklailI think that the abortion amemdment that the House put in will be stripped out by the Senate. When the House has to vote again it may not pass. If the final passage does not come until after the first of year it may not pass. When those Blue Dogs go home for Christmas they are going to hear about it. Will they listen.
Here's how they voted

And frankly, I personally think candlelight vigils are ridiculous. As if holding a candle means anything.

November 8, 2009 - 09:45 ET by AnkharanThis is a sad day in history for America. Soon, we will be known as the USSA (United Socialist States of America).
While it still needs to hit the Senate I made a promise to some people and Monday morning I will be handing out termination notices. F*** you Congress, F*** you Obama, and most of all, F*** people of the USA who have no idea what freedom costs. You sold yourselves into slavery and I’m done with it. My business will sell, I already have offers from a national company, and I will be dumping it Monday morning. They will not be hiring locals that I have hired and it will hit this community hard.
I used to care, I used to believe that the US was something special. I isn’t. Just another government run robber society all prettied up to make people fall under the illusion of freedom. A government that can reach into your pockets any time they please are nothing less than thieves.
So shove it Congress. Shove it up your rear end. Tie for me to retire… not in the USA. You cannot have one more dime of my money to hand out a pittance to some people and retain the rest to line your pockets.
FU AMA. FU AARP. FU every single group that supported and lobbied for this. And for shame. Taking bribes to line your pockets while your members will suffer the consequences.
Too late for a revolution. This country has fallen into a shat hole of corruption and criminal leaders.

Cao's statement last night on vote
November 8, 2009 - 10:53 ET by metaphorsbwithuI received this in an email press release from Rep. Cao last night. I fired back an email describing what he and the Democrats, if this is not overturned, had done ... and that he had finally lost my support:
Press Release:
Contact: Princella D. Smith - 202-225-6636
Washington, DC - Tonight, Congressman Anh “Joseph” Cao (LA-2) voted in favor of the comprehensive health reform bill, H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act.
Of his vote, Cao said: “Tonight, I voted to keep taxpayer dollars from funding abortion and to deliver access to affordable health care to the people of Louisiana.
Cao said: “I read the versions of the House [health reform] bill. I listened to the countless stories of Orleans and Jefferson Parish citizens whose health care costs are exploding – if they are able to obtain health care at all. Louisianans needs real options for primary care, for mental health care, and for expanded health care for seniors and children.
The bill passed the House at a 220-215 vote.
Cao said: “Today, I obtained a commitment from President Obama that he and I will work together to address the critical health care issues of Louisiana including the FMAP crisis and community disaster loan forgiveness, as well as issues related to Charity and Methodist Hospitals. And, I call on my constituents to support me as I work with him on these issues.
Cao said: “I have always said that I would put aside partisan wrangling to do the business of the people. My vote tonight was based on my priority of doing what is best for my constituents.
H.R. 3962 included the Stupak-Pitts Amendment, which will keep in place current federal law on abortion funding and conscience protections for health care providers.
Cao said: “Before the Stupak-Pitts amendment was adopted as part of this health reform bill, the bill failed to explicitly include the longstanding policy prohibiting federal funding of elective abortion and plans which include elective abortion.”
According to a letter from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops dated November 7, 2009, “The [Stupak-Pitts] Amendment will not affect coverage of abortion in nonsubsidized health plans, and will not bar anyone from purchasing a supplemental abortion policy with their own funds.”
Cao said: “Thank to the Stupak-Pitts Amendment, taxpayer dollars will not go to supporting elective abortions, and for thousands of my constituents, this was a top priority. By incorporating this amendment into the health reform bill, my colleagues and I made this bill better, and that is an achievement of which I will always be proud.”
Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond, the archbishop of New Orleans, said: “I am grateful to Congressman Cao for his courage and determination to defend life. I appreciate his work to prevent abortion from being included in health care reform and for protecting conscience rights of health care professionals. I – and, I am sure, many in New Orleans would join me – [I] appreciate Congressman Cao's commitment to the people of New Orleans."
Amazingly, Rep. Cao has claimed to have read the bill. I think all the schmoozing and attention he's received, radio and TV appearances he's garnered, pleas from people who say they need help, have gotten to him. In one sense he has a soft spot for the poor, said so in his campaign, but it has affected his better judgment. His newcomer status has blinded him in that he thinks he can trust the Democrats. He was ripe for plucking.
Now he will learn how he was just a useful tool.

Threats don't accomplish much
November 8, 2009 - 13:15 ET by slickwillie2001I don't see threatening vulnerable democratics with likely defeat as all that productive. Some of them may even see themselves as expendable, and we know Princess Nan certainly does. Her seat is safe. Our Halfrican-in-Chief idiot on Saturday even compared those democratics that may lose their seats after voting for Obamacare to soldiers at war giving their life for a cause.
Any of those democratics are guaranteed a lifetime job in one of the 110 or so new committees which will be formed under Obamacare to regulate, ration, and socialize what was once the finest healtcare system in the world. They might also be offered an ambassadorship to a fine South Pacific or Caribbean country. I expect many of them won't bother running again. They are pawns, like those students that the Ayatollah of Iran sent across the minefields during their war with Iraq.
We need to focus our energies on finding viable candidates for the 2010 primary season. That's the hard work.
huh?
November 8, 2009 - 13:51 ET by WesenPut the energies into 2010... though you say the democrats are ready and willing to be defeated. If this is their "war" then waiting to reinforce as an opposition is akin to Barry's response in Afghanistan. Is this the best strategy?
