For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Blago picks a Senator!

In a display of political bravado, disgraced Gov. Rod Blagojevich today appointed former Illinois Atty. Gen. Roland Burris to the U.S. Senate, challenging national Democratic leaders to reject the appointment of an African-American to the seat that propelled Barack Obama to the White House. The defiant move tests the resolve of Senate Democrats who said they would not admit anyone appointed by Blagojevich, who is facing impeachment after being accused of trying to sell the Senate seat for personal gain. And it reveals to a nation celebrating Obama's victory the underbelly of Chicago's race-based political scene. President-elect Obama supported the announcement by Senate Democrats that Blagojevich's appointment "will ultimately not stand."

Will this pick stand, or will someone else be Illinois' new junior senator? If the latter, who? What does all this say about the current Democrat party if anything?

The pick will stick.

If Blago is serious then it's a done deal.

Neither the Illinois State Legislature or the Congress can do a damn thing about it.Any threats from Harry Reid to block his seating is just silly talk.He has no authority to block Burris from being seated and will end up looking like a fool if he tries.

Ha Ha!

sc... What is funny is

sc...

What is funny is all 50 dem Senators have signed a deal not to seat Burris.

From what I have heard Reid and his merry-band of nit-wits cannot stop him from being seated...but the plan is to delay it....

My question is then what?

"America isn't the problem...America is the solution." ~ Rush Limbaugh

Blago's appointee

As a former Chicagoan, this was a smart move.  Burris is relatively untainted, old party warhorse, who aspired to both this seat and the Govenorship in elections past.  Do the national democrats want to challenge this choice?  Does Himself want to backhand those who helped him on the way up? Change we can believe in!

Like the leftists said in 2001,"He might be POTUS, but he ain't my President. True enough.

It's not going away.

I don't think Burris has a chance. Regardless, the decision to reject him is a double edged sword. This is a smooth play by Blagojevich that foils any plans to sweep it under a rug before tainting every senator with his bile. Giving this criminal the privledge to create this mess makes the party look weak.

I think it's Senate Dems who don't have a chance

Blago is still the governor and he did what he was supposed to do.  I don't see how the Dems can keep Burris out.

If they go to court to do so alot of Dems stay home in 2010 and a Republican gets elected.

I guess they could try and ignore Burris since the Dems have such a majority it's hard to see how Burris' vote would really mean anything, but that would probably also lead to alot of Dems staying home in 2010.

Keep up the great work Harry!!

Kuni Blaggo has all the

Kuni Blaggo has all the cards in his favor.  He has teh law on his side and teh Senate is blowing smoke.  I think he did it to thumb his nose at the ones who dropped the dime on him.  He may be a criminal but until he has his day in court he is not convicted of any crime and the legal governor of Illinois.  They keep electing thugs though.

Whatever it is great fun to watch.

Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.

Blago is like a sweater

Blago is like a sweater with a loose thread of yarn. Pull on the thread and the whole sweater unravels.

You can bet that he knows all of Obama's secret deals, embarrasing moments and less than honorable activities. That's where he holds all the cards.

Obama doesn't want Blago blabbing.

It will be hard to find a

It will be hard to find a more qualified black Democrat Party hack like Burris. Especially one from Chicago who hasn't been indicted.  Blogo pulled a fast one.

He sure did pull a fast

He sure did pull a fast one.

I said in the other thread you have to give him credit:  Well played, Blago.

mb... He sure did...this

mb...

He sure did...this is going to be a long running soap-opera with the dems ect...I think much more to come out too with this whole thing with Fitz, he asked for an extension until April because more people are singing like a bird evidently, plus more tapes ect...

I love this...

You do notice nobody in the msm uses the term Culture of Corruption when it comes to the dems and this never-ending mess.

You're right, Jack.  He is no better than Blago.  Frankly, I hope Blago beats this thing, if, for no other reason, it cuts this egomaniac Fitzgerald off at the knees.  He's a corrupt prosecutor who has been permitted to abuse his position with the full backing of the press.  He's cultivated a reputation as a righteous Elliot Ness-type, when he's just another Mike Nifong with good PR.  I can't wait for Libby and Conrad Black to cut this guy's reputation wide open after that tool Blago beats the rap.

I'm also looking forward to the street fight between Blago and Reid.  Hopefully Reid will emerge as damaged goods by the time his 2010 re-election bid takes place (the fact that he hasn't already been defeated is sad enough).

Oaky, I don't need to be the Amazing Karnak to predict Vice President Biden (yep, it's true, not a weird nightmare you'll eventually wake up from) will make hilarious gaffes in 2009.

So -- can I predict some actual gaffes Biden will make in 2009, as President Obama reluctantly finds "harmless" things for him to do...

At a CAIR fundraiser, Biden greets the crowd with: "I'd just like to say Shalom to all my Muslim friends..."

Meeting with David Patterson the blind the Governor of New York, Biden offers to show him the photos he took at the inauguration.

On a visit to India Biden congratulates the Indian people on their great curries, and their innate ability to run Gas Stations, before grabbing Sonia Gandhi and kissing her smack on the lips.

Called to adjudicate a voting tie as President of the Senate, Biden accidentally votes with the Republicans. Three times.

I was rummaging around Neal's site again today and ran across this.

I went through a ton of Lego sets over the course of my childhood, but being somewhat devoid of patience (not to mention the required number of pieces) I never came close to the level of complexity shown above. Great stuff.

BLAGO PICK

I agree with supercon.  I don't know of anyone or any body that has the authority to block the pick.

Typical Democrat promises.  Won't be fulfilled.

BTW:  Has anyone noticed that OBAMA has not/will not be fulfilling ANY of his campaign promises!!!!!  Where is the Left reaction to this?!!?

Let me know what you think.

gapruitt@earthlink.net

I predict Burris will land in PEBO's former senate seat.

Despite the lofty rhetoric from Spineless Harry and his fellow boneless chickens, at the end of the day, he and his party are so beholden to black voters, who they have hoodwinked for decades into voting for them, they will eventually cave in like cheap tents.

Now that Bobby Rush, and some others, are shuffling the race-card deck in front of God and everybody, which will serve to energize blacks all over the state, as well as certain parts of the country, I don't see how Burris will not eventually get the seat.

From what I have been hearing from some Chicago locals, this Burris guy is almost as much of an empty suit as PEBO.

Frankenslime Monster

Franken ahead by 49 votes...Reid wants him seated, Cornyn says NO Way!

They are going to have to wait until litigation is over before anyone is seated.

I swear, like we've said before here, Franken/Soros ect will stop at nothing....I heard yesterday they were counting votes that were not even there, heck this is worse than what the Florida leftists tried to get away with, let alone him counting votes twice.

Also, isn't it rather nice we hear nothing now about ACORN now that the election is over, if the repubs don't do something about this before the next election, they may as well bend over and kiss their rears good-bye for any chance to gain seats.

"America isn't the problem...America is the solution." ~ Rush Limbaugh

bt, this is almost an exact repeat of what

happened in the WA gov race last time.  the left has this formula down for close races!  in WA they ended up counting more votes than were actually cast....i know,,,, huh?  it took to the third count for them to win.  i think the mathematical formula is... no morals+no conscience=victory

Blago just fired on across the DNC/Obama bow

and for everything else he maybe is also the sitting Gov and has absolute Legal standing to appoint the senator of his choice!

He will have HIS choice for senate and not the ONE's choice.

Personally, I love this. Blago is out foxing the foxes.

I think if they have to have a special election for Rahm Emanual's seat they may as well add a senator to the ballot?

Republicans must rid the party of people like Newt Gingrich, John McCain, George Bush and all the lying closet socialist big government cheats. Those we've been calling RINOs need to go. All blue bloods need to go. The reason Republicans won in 1994 is because people thought they actually were different than Democrats. We believed they actually stood for something. But after 12 years, all the ones in the news prove they are no different than Democrats.

If Republicans are going to be successful, there is no room in our Party for Liberals.... None. If we don't get rid of the Liberals in our party, the party is done... forever.

Hey BT, Blonde & fellow NBers!!!

This is a follow up to the link I posted about our soldiers "cool" reception to BHO.  Before I get to that, however, I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year!  I'm on west coast time so, I've got a few hours to go.

Regarding Blago-Gate, this thing is getting so big that the MSM has no choice but to talk about it.  The elections are over and nothing else is going on.  So, try as they might, they can't wait it out like they did with Edwards.  Speaking of which, we haven't heard a peep about Edwards have we?  I know that they are going to try to minimize any damage done to the good name of Obama.  I hope that Fitzgerald leans on Blago hard enough to dig up some dirt on Obama.  What about Rezko?  Both of them should have so much dirt on him that the stench of corruption will stay with him for his entire administration.

I was watching "Clueless" the other day.  Does that not remind you of Caroline or what?  Like, gag me with a spoon!

As I promised earlier, here is the link.  There are also links within the link for further info.  Enjoy!
