Crazy Weather to Interrupt the Palin Smears
September 3, 2008 - 08:53 ET by taterThis morning while I'm forced to listen to the dribble that is the Today show...they were talking about the tropical storms in the Atlantic and Matt Lauer said in the tease "Are we responsible and do we deserve this?" Set me into a mini-rage because the MSM is still going on about spinning weather. No Matt we aren't responsible and we don't deserve this as weather will do what it feels like, when it feels like, where it feels like. End soapbox...now back to the Palin smears.

Compare Apples to Apples
September 3, 2008 - 09:06 ET by GothampcI'm getting tired of the MSM smearing Sarah Palin on no experience. If you look at Geraldine Ferraro's run for VP, she had been a lawyer and then in the House of Rep for six years. She was instrumental in some important legislation, but I still think Palin beats Ferraro in executive experience. Unfortunately, the MSM won't compare apples to apples. They try to hold Palin to a higher standard.
This is why I have decried
September 3, 2008 - 09:12 ET by BruzillaThis is why I have decried the ODS rants over the past months. Palin has about a year and a half of executive experience, which is more than Obama or McCain (or Ferraro) have. But the ODS crowd spent the summer claiming that only having a year and half of experience as a US Senator meant nothing because it was only a year and a half. So you can't make the case that a year and a half of experience at one job means nothing, but makes you very experienced at another.
Experience
September 3, 2008 - 09:33 ET by GothampcIMO, Congress experience means nothing. I didn't vote for McCain in the primary for that specific reason. I want to see someone with executive experience (someone who has had to work with a budget and be forced to stick to it), not someone who has sat around and discussed legislation.
But that is comparing a
September 3, 2008 - 09:46 ET by Hero SquadBut that is comparing a President to a Vice President.
Which in some respects is what I think was part of the reasoning behind selecting Palin. The more people continue to compare a presidential candidate to a vice presidential candidate, the less presidential it will make the presidential candidate seem.
This pick is going to help McCain in so many ways. Every day I'm more convinced he made a daring but smart choice.

September 3, 2008 - 11:22 ET by motherbeltIt's not political, but if you want to see an absolutely hilarious Dave Barry column, it's the colonoscopy one!
They can't ALL be home runs like that one
September 3, 2008 - 11:43 ET by sarcasmoAnother great Dave was when Justice John Paul Stevens wrote Dave a letter alerting him to the existence of a product called "Beano." That one was SO funny some newspapers refused to run it (but they still ran Beano ads!) Anyway, at the risk of offending the copyright police, I'm gonna paste that one you mentioned in, because I'm about to undergo that very process in a few weeks, and like Dave felt, I'm NOT looking forward to the experience.
JMR
The tax & spend drug war looks racist in the real world.
This is from newshound Dave Barry's colonoscopy journal:
... I called my friend Andy Sable, a gastroenteritis, to make an
appointment for a colonoscopy. A few days later, in his office, Andy
showed me a color diagram of the colon, a lengthy organ that appears
to go all over the place, at one point passing briefly through
Minneapolis . Then Andy explained the colonoscopy procedure to me in a
thorough, reassuring and patient manner. I nodded thoughtfully, but I
didn't really hear anything he said, because my brain was shrieking,
quote, 'HE'S GOING TO STICK A TUBE 17,000 FEET UP YOUR BEHIND!'
I left Andy's office with some written instructions, and a
prescription for a product called 'MoviPrep,' which comes in a box
large enough to hold a microwave oven. I will discuss MoviPrep in
detail later; for now suffice it to say that we must never allow it to
fall into the hands of America 's enemies.
I spent the next several days productively sitting around being
nervous. Then, on the day before my colonoscopy, I began my
preparation. In accordance with my instructions, I didn't eat any
solid food that day; all I had was chicken broth, which is basically
water, only with less flavor. Then, in the evening, I took the
MoviPrep. You mix two packets of powder together in a one-liter
plastic jug, then you fill it with lukewarm water. (For those
unfamiliar with the metric system, a liter is about 32 gallons.) Then
you have to drink the whole jug. This takes about an hour, because
MoviPrep tastes - and here I am being kind - like a mixture of goat
spit and urinal cleanser, with just a hint of lemon.
The instructions for MoviPrep, clearly written by somebody with a
great sense of humor, state that after you drink it, 'a loose watery
bowel movement may result.' This is kind of like saying that after you
jump off your roof, you may experience contact with the ground.
MoviPrep is a nuclear laxative. I don't want to be too graphic, here,
but: Have you ever seen a space-shuttle launch? This is pretty much
the MoviPrep
experience, with you as the shuttle. There are times when you wish the
commode had a seat belt. You spend several hours pretty much confined
to the bathroom, spurting violently. You eliminate everything. And
then, when you figure you must be totally empty, you have to drink
another liter of MoviPrep, at which point, as far as I can tell, your
bowels travel into the future and star t eliminating food that you
have not even eaten yet.
After an action-packed evening, I finally got to sleep. The next
morning my wife drove me to the clinic. I was very nervous. Not only
was I worried
about the procedure, but I had been experiencing occasional return
bouts of MoviPrep spurtage. I was thinking, 'What if I spurt on Andy?'
How do you
apologize to a friend for something like that? Flowers would not be enough.
At the clinic I had to sign many forms acknowledging that I understood
and totally agreed with whatever the heck the forms said. Then they
led me to a
room full of other colonoscopy people, where I went inside a little
curtained space and took off my clothes and put on one of those
hospital garments designed by sadist perverts, the kind that, when you
put it on, makes you feel even more naked than when you are actually
naked.
Then a nurse named Eddie put a little needle in a vein in my left
hand. Ordinarily I would have fainted, but Eddie was very good, and I
was already
lying down. Eddie also told me that some people put vodka in their
MoviPrep. At first I was ticked off that I hadn't thought of this, but
then I pondered what would happen if you got yourself too tipsy to
make it to the bathroom, so you were staggering around in full Fire
Hose Mode. You would have no choice but to burn your house.
When everything was ready, Eddie wheeled me into the procedure room,
where Andy was waiting with a nurse and an anesthesiologist. I did not
see the 17,000-foot tube, but I knew Andy had it hidden around there
somewhere. I was seriously nervous at this point. Andy had me roll
over on my left side, and the anesthesiologist began hooking something
up to the needle in my hand. There was music playing in the room, and
I realized that the song was 'Dancing Queen' by ABBA I remarked to
Andy that, of all the songs that could be playing during this
particula r procedure, 'Dancing Queen' has to be the least appropriate.
'You want me to turn it up?' said Andy, from somewhere behind me. 'Ha
ha,' I said. And then it was time, the moment I had been dreading for
more than a
decade. If you are squeamish, prepare yourself, because I am going to
tell you, in explicit detail, exactly what it was like.
I have no idea. Really. I slept through it. One moment, ABBA was
yelling 'Dancing Queen, Feel the beat of the tambourine,' and the next
moment, I was back in the other room, waking up in a very mellow mood.
Andy was looking down at me and asking me how I felt. I felt
excellent. I felt even more excellent when Andy told me that it was
all over, and that my colon had passed with flying colors. I have
never been prouder of an internal organ.

September 3, 2008 - 11:07 ET by BruzillaThanks for speaking to my point. So what if Obama gets elected? It's just four years, and there isn't much that he could do that couldn't be undone after that four years. We survived Carter, we survived Clinton, but we survived those debacles because we had a strong conservative base and platform to take back control. Now we have lots of Republicans who are willing to sell out the conservative base and our ideals just for the sake of holding the White House. Limbaugh said time and time again last year how electing McCain was going to push the party to the center-left and ruin it for years. Now Limbaugh has joined the ranks of the fearful.
My biggest fear is that we will be the means of our own destruction.
At some point this election, and the ensuing presidency will be over, and what will be left? A highly divided republican party that is fractured between conservatives and moderates, and that will be unable to put up any defense against Hillary Clinton when she runs in 2012 and 2016. I would rather see the Republicans lose the White House to Obama for four years than fracture the party to get a RINO in.

What is being revealed is
September 3, 2008 - 09:09 ET by mattmWhat is being revealed is that there are really two Americas. Not the rich and the poor, as Jesse Jackson said, but the Pro-Americans and the Anti-Americans.
From the full frontal assault on Palin to the bomb-throwing "peace" protesters, what we are seeing is a civil war between those who love America (the Republicans) and those who hate America (the Democrats).
And don't give me any of that obfuscating back-talk; any of you who consider yourselves patriotic Dems. Look at the behavior of your fellow libs: lies, slander, blatant hypocrisy at every turn, rioting, shouting down of opposing views, bashing, trashing, slashing, crashing.... If you don't want to be connected with slime like that - quit the Dems. Otherwise, you're just another enemy of America.
Dear Democrats in the Media: Please keep it up
September 3, 2008 - 09:33 ET by JohnMcGrewI almost feel sorry for them. The Palin selection caught them completely off-guard. So without a solid file of dirt, they have to scrape or just make up stuff that wouldn't even pass muster for the tabloids. Knocking her for her supposed lack of expereince just further exposes the top end of their ticket as an empty suit. The targeting of her family has been clearly ugly, and has been recieved as such. The rumors have backfired. And all the focus on her gives the famous "undecided" further time to pause, and consider the differences between the tickets. The empty slams against her will also make people forget about the supposed "new era of politics" that the Obamatons have been trying to tell us they're all about.
So Democrats in the media? Please keep this up so that we might be spared the most liberal administration in the history of the republic. You've exceeded all expectations so far.

Obama at Columbia?
September 3, 2008 - 10:10 ET by GothampcAn interesting article that raises the question of why Obama doesn't speak about his time at one of the top ivy league schools.
"Senator Obama's life story, from his humble roots, to his rise to Harvard Law School, to his passion as a community organizer in Chicago, has been at the center of his presidential campaign. But one chapter of the tale remains a blank — his education at Columbia College, a place he rarely speaks about and where few people seem to remember him."
"The Obama campaign declined to comment for this article and did not offer an explanation for why his transcript has not been released. But observers speculated that one reason might be the racially charged nature of the election. Mr. Obama has acknowledged benefiting from affirmative action in the past, and details about his academic performance might open him up to critics eager to accuse him, probably unfairly, of receiving a free ride, Mr. Kabaservice said."

Too much bias for NB to keep up
September 3, 2008 - 11:47 ET by 911isbusyThere seems to be just so many examples of media bias that NB just can't keep up with it all. I looked at the CNN website's headlines just now and they have not a single positive thing to say about the GOP. What's worse than all this media bias is that there are so many people out there that won't even bother questioning what they hear. The GOP have the facts in their favor but it doesn't make one bit of difference with those that just follow along with what they are being told by the MSM.
Those who have not swords can still die upon them.

Take the time to read it. I think it is very well done.

Fred Thompson's speech last
September 3, 2008 - 13:24 ET by bigtimerFred Thompson's speech last night was a barn-burner!
I wished he had done this type of speechifying when he was running...it was the old Fred at his best!
I absolutely got excited....
In my opinion they should NOT of had Joe Lieberman go after him, I appreciate Joe and all, but when you have a barn-burner of a speech like that, and you get us conservatives all riled up...it should of ended there...so the msm would of had to pay more attention to it as they have so far...
I knew they would put it down...Olbermann made me absolutely sick...as usual...then this morning on Joe Scarborough's opening segment about Thompson's speech I was really disappointed then got angry again...
President Bush was good too...I loved his slam to the left...
Oh well, tonight is going to be GREAT!
We all know what the msm is going to do beforehand...the filthy pigs they are.

Thompson
September 3, 2008 - 13:36 ET by GothampcI agree that he gave a good speech. Unfortuantely Thompson comes across as a good old boy and in the primaries he didn't realize that he needed to bump up his energy. His substance was always on target but he came across as lethargic. Part of this is due to the media. I think they shut out all others and wanted to make it a race between McCain, Guiliani and Romney. Duncan Hunter could never get attention and Mike Huckabee only got attention because he cracked jokes and it made good sound bytes. Ron Paul got attention because he was crazy as a loon.
Same problem with Lieberman. He comes across as a wet blanket. His voice is boring and his delivery unenergetic.
Why has no one mentioned
September 3, 2008 - 14:25 ET by ricklailWhy has no one mentioned that Gov. Plin is married to a minority? The last time I looked Inuit Indians were considered a minority.

Hey, just saw Charlie
September 3, 2008 - 17:59 ET by Indiana JoeHey, just saw Charlie Gibson putting McCain through the wringer on the prime time ABC news. Interviewing McCain, Gibson questioned him about vetting Palin and his remark that Obama would lose the war to win the election. It was far from a "puff-piece."
Funny, I don't recall Obama going through that last week.
Hi IJ.... Of course you
September 3, 2008 - 18:11 ET by bigtimerHi IJ....
Of course you don't recall that...because it never happened, and of course never will!
LOL...
Btw...I just heard Olbie on the opening of their coverage on msnbc with his usual filthy introduction about Sarah Palin...now he is saying the repubs are blaming the msm ect...can this be done he asks Chris...Matthews says yes...it worked for Nixon, they are trying it again, the David vs Goliath thing....
I tell you these rabid, scared, idiots are making absolute fools of themselves and are becoming the number enemy of all thinking people on both sides of the aisle in the real world..

Woah, Fred Thompson laid the wood to the libs. And I have a healthy new respect for Joe Lieberman.
McCain and Palin will win this thing.

How the h#ll does this happen???
September 3, 2008 - 19:16 ET by bloolooIt's 5pm in California as I write this. This link/story was time-stamped at 7:33pm ET. On TV as I write this CNN says it's 2 and 1/2 hours until Sarah Palin's speech, but, this article is referring to what she SAID.... past tense, as if it already happened... I know there are advance copies of speech's that are published, but, I don't recall reporters writing stories BEFORE the big event explaining how it was!! Does someone have a time machine we don't know about?I've heard of re-writing history, but, PRE-writing history??
GOP convention
September 3, 2008 - 19:33 ET by SchnikeysI'm watching the convention as I type this. The speakers are kind of lame...waiting for Palin's speech at 10:35.
