Also a note on the passing of a Hollywood icon...
Warner Todd Huston here, and I just wanted to add to the lighter discussion a note on the sad passing of a Hollywood icon. This hasn't a thing to do with politics or the liberal media, but I thought it might interest everyone.
On Monday, voice artist Don LaFontaine died. You may not know his name but you absolutely have heard his work. Think of yourself settling into a movie. The theater goes dark. The trailers begin. Dramatic music fills the room and the mellifluous sound of a baritone voice emerges to coo: "In a world where..."
That's right, the movie trailer guy. He has given the dramatic reading for over 5000 movie trailers over the decades. His voice is now stilled. By all accounts he was one of the truly nice guys in Hollywood, too. No ego trip, full of mirth and good humor.
Here is a Geico commercial he did so you can hear and see him...
And here is a nice little video about his work...
RIP, Don... In a world where there is no Don LaFontaine... will we ever enjoy movie trailers as much again?

My big peave for the day was
September 2, 2008 - 09:08 ET by BruzillaMy big peave for the day was all the Katrina video that every news outlet ran over and over again yesterday. Once they realized that Gustav was a bust, they all started running pieces on Katrina and "what could have happened to New Orleans if the conditions had been the same" stories. Well, they weren't the same, and rather than report that most conditions were very good, they decided to fill time with lots of video of Katrina damage to satisfy the need to show a disaster.

Rural America Will Rise!
September 2, 2008 - 09:15 ET by Dr_LibertySpeaking as a Rural-American (I'm demanding my own hyphenation if every other group gets one), I can tell you that us small town folks are really jazzed by Sarah Palin. This was an inspired pick.
The more I read about her -- yes, even the pregnancy-gate and trooper-gate stuff -- the more I am so impressed by her charachter. But coming from a town of 7,000, I should not have expected anything different.
I suggest everyone listen to "I'm One of You" by Hank Williams Jr. That should be Sarah Palin's campaign song!
(And the picture of her with her hair down was totally hot. I suggest that the campaign have her let her hair down!)

Here's my response to the e-mail I got, followed by the e-mailers response to me:
Me - "You find something admirable about the "protesters"? Urine, bricks, bats, sling-shots, tire-spikes... These people aren't protesters, they're terrorists."
E-Mailer - "You’re assuming a lot about these people. I find them quite admirable...as long as they don’t hurt anyone. Possession of such materials means nothing unless they hurt someone. The police who preempt their movements are their privacy are the terrorists. You a cop by any chance?"
The media are trying to distance the troublemakers from the Democrat Party, but when you look at who these America-Hating scumbags are, you find out that they're all the same.

Palin Campaign Song Contest
September 2, 2008 - 09:24 ET by Dr_LibertyInspired by my last post, I am hereby creating a spontaneous contest -- winner gets to vote for McCain/Palin or against Obama (your choice).
What do you think Sarah Palin's campaign theme song should be?
Dr. Liberty's entry: "I'm One of You" by Hank Williams Jr.
(The above link to the song appears to be a homemade music video from somebody in Alaska, of all places, and includes pictures of a moose! Palin hunts moose and loves moose stew!)

I don't think so Dave

Most men who are against abortion are extremely courageous because they have an easy out in terms of responsibility if they encourage it. It's not easy to face a screaming women telling them it's not their choice.
I've known many more men to encourage a women to have an abortion or stay silent than to try and force her to keep it. If the man encourages her to keep it he is taking responsibility for the baby. It has nothing to do with control of the mother.

The only reason I ran with this is because it was given legs by, of all things, a University of Vermont Journalism blog. Considering there are quite a few Journos that read and participate here at NB, I thought I would ask fellow NB'ers what your opinions are.
Keep in mind I never pretended to be a Journalist, just a blogger that makes fun of the left, ezpecially Ecofascists. September 2, 2008 - 10:41 ET by BruzillaWhat I find amusing is that when the Democrats cite Obama's almost two years as a US Senator, the claim from Republicans is "almost two years is nothing!" And now when Palin's almost two years of being a governor is mentioned, almost two years is suddenly tons of experience to the same people!
Nothing like a biased perspective of the facts. lol
what I find amazing is that you claim to be a conservative
September 2, 2008 - 10:47 ET by Dee Bunkwhat a phony. You are a complete Obama apologist. You are clueless - 2yrs of Senate experience is nothing - 2 yrs of executive experience is a lot more and she has more than 2 yrs of executive experience.

September 2, 2008 - 10:50 ET by motherbeltWell, was that "almost two years" before he started running for President? Because he admitted to Hillary Clinton that he had not worked on some stuff because it came up in the Senate just as he was starting his campaign. What does that say about his priorities?
Laughable
September 2, 2008 - 11:26 ET by UnsaneWhat I find amusing is that Bruzilla doesn't know the difference between legislative experience and executive experience.
I also find it amusing that he claims to be a Rightist.
I also find it amusing that the governor visited the troops in the field while the United States Senator, who can cast votes on funding the military as well as confirming Generals and Admirals to their posts and promotions, was dragged kicking and screaming the field. Well, no, not really...

Exactly - Gothampc - that's part of the brilliance of the pick
September 2, 2008 - 10:49 ET by Dee BunkDid you see the Drudge headline? Obama can't even match up in experience to the VP pick and can only hope to trash her kids. It's really pathetic.
Oh, yeah, as I said

Why abstinence?
September 2, 2008 - 10:11 ET by KC MulvilleFrom Ruth Marcus in the Washington Post: “The most we as parents can hope for is to insulate our children, as best we can, from the consequences of their own stupidity.”
Nah. This may be the stereotypical difference between mothers and fathers. (Confession: I’m a dad of four teenagers.) Mothers protect children from the world, but fathers teach them how to live in it. For example, the internet is filled with predators. How do we deal with that? Should we prevent children from going on the internet, or do we teach them what to do when they get there? The highway is filled with drunk drivers and people talking on cell phones. Do we prevent kids from driving, or do we teach them how to deal with it? Sex education represents the inverse of that argument. Our modern world is saturated with sex. Do we try to prevent them from that world, or do we teach them how to live in it? I say that we teach them how to live in it, but that’s different from teaching them to embrace it. Sometimes the best method of dealing with the world is to oppose it.
I don’t teach my children how to drink and drive. I tell them not to. I educate them on what driving takes, and on what alcohol does to your brain. They have the information. But I tell them not to do it.
I don’t teach my children how to snort cocaine. I tell them not to. I educate them on what drugs do. They have the information. But I tell them not to do it.
The reason parents like me are attracted to abstinence education is because sex education programs give the information, but then they portray the choice to do it as acceptable. I want my children to have all the information, but I also don’t want any school program to contradict me when I teach my children not to do it. Schools teach about what drugs do, but they don’t trample on my right as a parent to oppose drugs. Schools teach about drunk driving, and they firmly oppose it. On the other hand, sex education programs tend to give information, but then "pass no judgment" about whether sexual experimentation is acceptable. To a teenager, "pass no judgment" means go ahead, no consequences. Nah. That’s the wrong way to teach them how to deal with it. Give the information, by all means, but reinforce the social disapproval. Teach "no."
It's like they don't even care for objectivity

Or was it that hurricane, Katrina, where 100,000 lazy asses chose to sit on their backsides and wait for some big breast in the sky to come along for them to suck on, like they have been used to ever since Johnson's Great Society? They looked like a bunch of baby robbins, sitting in the nest with their mouths wide open; waiting for the mother robbin to feed them. AND THE ENTIRE KATRINA EPISODE WAS ORCHESTRATED BY TWO OF THE DUMBEST ELECTED OFFICIALS ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH. THE TWO DEMOCRATS SERVING AS THE GOVERNOR OF LOUISIANA AND THE MAYOR OF NEW ORLEANS, who should share 99% of the blame. Had I been president, I'd have let the whole bunch of them sit and rot.
Here we are excluding the men who have kept this nation safe from further attacks over the last 7 1/2 years and have done so by sacrificing their entire legacies as leaders of this nation. The man who changed the face of the Supreme Court to preserve it as intended to keep our nation free is excluded. The man who has not bent down and made us subordinate to a bunch of European Socialists.
By Heaven I would not only have my featured speakers be President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney but my keynote speaker would have been shared between Karl Rove and Rush Limbaugh and the entire rest of the MSM, the left and the dems could give me a kiss, right in the middle of my big fat back-side.
Right on buckeye...
September 2, 2008 - 11:55 ET by MrDebaterMy wife is an Aussie, that has always loved America, but wondered what kind of crazy stuff was going on over here over the years. She has lived here now since 9/11 and says she finally understands that all the lunacy is coming from the left(she's a strong conservative now, since meeting me). Anyway, she and I are both saying that Bush and Cheney should be center-stage at the convention...counter-attacking the lies of the dems for the last 7 yrs...they could blow the dems out of the water! What a laundry list...we've already won the war in Iraq...we found 352 metric tons of uranium there..over 500 chemical weapons of mass destruction...lower unemployment than Clinton(until the Dems took over in 06)...more people owning their own homes than ever(not including the speculators who bailed on their investments)...saved the economy after 9/11...no attacks since then...terrorist attacks worldwide are at lowest levels in last 20 years...gas prices have doubled since Dems took over in '06...etc.
Thanks MrDebater
September 2, 2008 - 12:25 ET by cvgbuckeyeSeveral months ago, I linked an imaginary statement by President Bush that states that he is quitting and he gives the reasons why. It was excellent. People thought I wrote it but I did not. I would like to repost it now, while our President is being excluded from the Republican Convention but unfortunately I cannot find it.
Here's a good one...
September 2, 2008 - 11:38 ET by MrDebaterI'm watching C-span(God help me) replaying the coverage from Monday's Kook Convention in Minnesota...I see in the middle of the crowd an American Flag flying upside down!!!! I say go Lefties!!(especially code pinko) show the country what the loony left in this country is really all about!! I respect debate, but this kind of idiotic rhetoric is just stupid, but I say Keep it Up lefties!!! You are only showing the rest of the country the face of madness. Be afraid of these people, be very afraid.
We must thank the Liberal Media
September 2, 2008 - 11:39 ET by IgnatzJFahrquarWednesday's speech by Palin is going to be a big moment in this
campaign. Lots of folks will be watching to see how she is handling the
current slams plus they want to see "Who is Sarah Palin?"
Actually,
we need to thank the Liberal Media for really playing up Palin. The
ratings for Wednesday' speech will be through the roof.
And once again the MSM shoots itself ... and the Dims ... in the foot by all the coverage both in print and electronic. They will drive more people to explore this unknown commodity. Thanks for the free advertising.

Growing List of Obama's Federal Crimes
September 2, 2008 - 12:34 ET by Lame CherryTom Blumer yesterday inspired me to do a little checking online concerning the "trailer tr*sh" smear on Gov. Palin.
(The reason I do not use the term is Google is keying on that term to help Barack Obama put it in it's search engines as Mr. Blumer's linked story on the Post Chronicle highlighted.)
I will list my blog link for all the links in the story so people can see for themselves, but in synopsis this is what happened.
The Obama campaign was smearing Hillary voters this past spring as "trailer tr*sh). This infuriated the Clinton people.
The Obama campaign dusted this term off again and in a dual planting of the story which Mr. Blumer found on the Post Chronicle in the term and linking back to the notorious John Aravosis who goes around setting fires as one of the liberal molotov mob to smear people.
Justin McCarthy of Newsbusters exposed him in May of this year attempting to swift boat John McCain with lies.
This is how the entire scenario works like in Dan Rather's forgegate story. The liberals send out a team from a campaign. Their operatives like Aravosis (worked of Albright and other liberal big shots) put up posts to feed into other leftists.
THEN the media pipes in on "this story" which they are alerted to and assemble like that propagandist Charlie Rose a panel of "experts" with all the talking points.
I want very much for Americans to understand these smears are coordinated from the Obama campaign. WHAT THIS MEANS IS IT IS AN ILLEGAL CONSPIRACY under the RICO act. Just as illegal as the Obama terrorist in St. Paul gathering to create mayhem and were arrested. A keyboard does as much damage as a molotov cocktail.
This is the growing list of federal crimes Barack Obama is guilty of. It is no accident that the media all featured him looking like the messiah "calling for an end to this". This is what this intelligence operative always does. He sets the smear and then calls for calm.
It got so bad last night that Jeff Greenfield of CBS actually tried as an example to use Chelsea Clinton at 17 if she had become pregnant to smear Christians.
For the point, Greenfield has no business using any woman for an example or any child as that is private whether in fiction or not. It is how these putrid souls though treat all women.
In addition to RICO, if one bothers to do a search you can find another wing of the Obama campaign besides smearing on babies, trailers and experience, have now resorted to referring to the Palin family as "eskimos".
As Newsbusters has not spotted this yet, it is time they do as the term "eskimo" is offensive to Inuit peoples as it means "fish eater" and Inuit means "real people".
This is racist hate speech coming out of the Obama campaign and it is highly illegal as in federal prison time.
Newsbusters deserves a great deal of credit in this, but it must expose the rest of this criminal story the media is literally a guilty accomplice in carrying out.
When though are Limbaugh, Hanity, O'Reilly going to start focusing on the illegal acts and stop being led around talking about the exact things the Obama people did to Hillary Clinton and now have turned this same criminal smear operation on Gov. Palin.

September 2, 2008 - 13:42 ET by RackieI'm sorry, but for Chelsea Clinton to have gotten pregnant at 17, she would have to have been double-bagged.
Why are you suprised at all

Is Sarah Palin ready?
September 2, 2008 - 12:46 ET by GothampcNo experience, only a governor for two years before being put on the national ticket? Too religious? Bible studies in the evening? And yet, can’t take care of the children? One daughter marries a man 30 years older. Another rejects the family faith and flees to an Ashram in India. Sarah Palin? Nope. Woodrow Wilson, ranked by historians as one of the greatest of American presidents.

Rove is seriously p!ssed
September 2, 2008 - 15:40 ET by Cool ArrowDid any of y'all catch H&C last night?
Colmes confronted Rove with an off the record comment Rove had made about Biden being a Doofus.
After admitting it Rove seemed so distracted by Colmes' apparent breach of confidence he could not maintain his discussion with Hannity.
Rove kept turning back to Colmes slapping him back and ended with asking if Colmes would appreciate it if he repeated things Colmes said off the record.
Did Colmes just fall on his sword to get in a cheap shot?
