For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Denver looks like the Clinton Convention!
Rarely in the history of American political conventions has the losing side received so much time and attention as this week in Denver. Barack Obama has been forced, by the clout Hillary Rodham Clinton showed in their primary battle and his need for her voters in his race against Republican John McCain, to allow the gathering of Democrats to look a lot like the Clinton Convention.
Could this backfire on Obama? Might he end up looking tremendously unpresidential and inexperienced tonight by comparison to the Clintons who gave great speeches the previous evenings? Has the bar been raised too high for him to even come close to the lofty expectations that have been set?

Generalship
August 28, 2008 - 18:31 ET by easygoerLee was the most daring general. No dispute that Thomas was outstanding but I believe James Longstreet was the best. His tactics especially, his theory of defensive war, foreshadowed what was to come in the 20th century. Fifty years later arrogant WW I European generals still had not grasped the lesson that he learned at Fredricksburg about the futility of charging well entrenched positions.
Longstreet got a bad rap for 1)daring to criticize Lee's tactics on the 3rd day at Gettysburg, which were terrible and which were the same as Burnside's Union Army at Fredricksburg on an even greater scale and 2) for having the temerity to join the Republican Party after the war.

August 28, 2008 - 10:34 ET by BruzillaI would just like to post that my biggest media issue this week is with Megan Kelly on FNC. Why oh why did she cut her hair! She used to look so hot with the long hair. The shorter hair just doesn't get the job done.
Megyn Kelly
August 28, 2008 - 12:43 ET by UnsaneWell, let's hope she makes up to that with a favorable ratio of skirts to pants. (Meaning, if she wears a skirt, say, 4 times for every time she wears pants, she at least knows and understands how important it is to be feminine as possible.)
But yeah, I hope her hair isn't too short. (I would have thought of Katie Cupcake as a hottie back in the day, but she insisted on having hair shorter than mine, and she looked awful, and I couldn't forgive that. Amazingly, in her late 40s, she decided one day to have hair that goes to her shoulders and thus at least try to look feminine. Too little, too late...too bad.)

Big Mistake
August 28, 2008 - 10:40 ET by iveseenitallI believe this outdoor stadium routine to be be another big mistake by Barry. It is too close to the newsreels we see from the 30's in a nation he recently visited. BTW , the entire Dim Convention has been so contrived, it is an insult to thinking people. For example, within seconds of Biden's talking about his family, even Affirmative Action Michelle whipped out a hanky and began to weep. How obvious, how sad. Just goes to show the contempt these phonys have for the people. And outside the buliding, on a public street, an ABC reporter was arrested by brown-shirted,...er, blue-shirted "police". All signs of things to come if Barry gets elected. Be afraid.
