Dawgs #1

Georgia has (IMO) the most difficult schedule in the nation. Bama, LSU, Florida, Tenn, Arizona State, Auburn. But they do have Moreno.

If they win those games (and they can) they will definately earn being #1. Then, Ohio State will go undefeated in the Weak 10 and Georgia will kill them in the BCS title game.

Btw, Roll Tide Roll.... Get em Tide...

Dawgs # 1?

I'm glad they are...remember how last season went?

Oh, and they get to play LSU and Auburn away, as well as, of course, my beloved Gators in Jacksonville.  (Where they will no doubt will taunt us with Gators Wear Jean Shorts!...with their record lately against us, we all know why...thanks again Ken Sheperd).

As for the perpetually over-ranked and over-estimated Ohio State...I'd love to see my Gators take them down in ANOTHER title game.  LOL.

GO GATORS!

Hey Blondie, what's the deal?

Your Gators getting busted driving while drinking NATURAL LITE?

Aren't they paying your boys enough?

:P

Thanks, Rog,

Natch we're not paying them enough...what are you confused?  We're NOT Florida State!

Do appreciate the update, I'm out in flyover country right now, hope to be home sometime next week, so I hadn't a clue about this.

Hey, Heavy Chevy - a minor correction!

FYI - it's spelled "Hendrick" and "Busch" - just like the beer...but I am a fan, too! As a self-confessed NASCAR junkie, I hope Gordon, Johnson, Junior and Mears kick some serious Toyota and Ford butt this weekend. This is Gordon's kind of race course. He should do very well!

BTW - here in the Great Buckeye State, Ohio is Chevy country - on a quiet night you can hear a Ford rust.

Go Tigers

LSU has the easiest schedule they have had in sometime, still tougher then 99% of the nations though.

Redsox really lost in this trade, but it seems as if they wanted to.

I have been keeping up with USA B-ball, I really think this group can get it done. Wade, Paul, James, and old man Kidd will see to it.

Still waiting for BL to get back to the winners circle.

You guys missed one though, the X-games are taking place as well. Being an old Skate Boarder and Bicycle racer, I absolutely love these guys.

Red Sox Lost, You Say?

We'll see-Manny grounded into a double play to end his first game with the Dodgers, while his replacement scored the winning run in the 12th inning.

Karma only works so long,

Karma only works so long, look the only reason I think Bo-sox lost is, they may not make it to the playoffs this year. Think about it, who you going to blame?

SEC FB is going to be

SEC FB is going to be a blast this year. If any of you "folks" are going to get LSU,, it better had be this year. We are young, freshman QB, and we may still win the west? Ol'Miss and Miss St should be good this year, Alabama they will be hard to beat this year, trust me. Auburn and Ga maybe the class but where is Tebows love?

Hockey breaks out at a

Hockey breaks out at a football
practice??? Has the NB staff hired Olbermann or Tiger Woods? Any one
who knows hockey will recognize this as a stereotypical ignorant
statement. Relating hockey to sideline thugs is unacceptable. Do some
research instead of recycling some old one liner...

Eileen

Eileen,

Give me a break. I'm a HUGE hockey fan -- used to be my favorite sport. This is an old joke and wasn't meant to offend anybody. Sheesh. ns

I was involved with youth

I was involved with youth and school
hockey programs on the West Coast for years and continually had to
dispel this image projected by such comments. It's a cheap shot,
unfair to the sport and players.

Well then maybe they

Well then maybe they shouldn't allow fighting.

It's a joke, Eileen. Nothing big.

Eileen

Eileen,

Well, if the NHL had gone the direction of international rules -- meaning you fight, and you're out of the game! -- this joke would have gone away years ago.

I grew up playing hockey. Used to be my life. The best hockey any of us ever saw was the 1987 Canada Cup finals between Canada and the USSR. Professionals from all parts of the globe playing fightless hockey, because one fight, and you were out of the tournament. Period!

That was the MOST amazing hockey ever. And, if the NHL wants a serious sports product, it should adopt MUCH stricter no-fighting rules. I largely stopped watching hockey early this decade before the strike because of the fighting. I'm only now starting to get interested again.

So, lighten up, Francis. ns

Noel, No problem, just

Noel,

No problem, just tired of the same old picture being painted. We have a local Olbermann clone here named Ted Leitner that shows fights when reporting hockey scores, burns me up.

BTW that's Psycho to you.

Wow Noel

I did not know you were a huge hockey fan. I did not even know they covered the Canada Cup in the USA back then. I was 16 years old and I remember watching it with friends, that was a very proud moment for Canada

My  Canadian friends were very upset at me and all turned me a turncoat because  I embraced my American side and was going for the USA in the first World Cup of Hockey

Real life video games are cool

shawn

shawn,

I don't remember what network showed it that year. I think it was USA which used to show a lot of hockey way back when.

Those three games between Canada and the USSR were by far the best hockey ever shown on television. If you remember, the first two games went to overtime, with the final game being decided with 1:26 remaining in the third period: http://en.wikipedia....

Just astonishingly great hockey -- with NO fighting!!! ns

Hockey fights

Sometimes the physical aspect of hockey is great as well. Hockey fights can be very entertaining, like this one.  Also check out this junior hockey body check.

Real life video games are cool

Eileen, I'm sure Noel had

Eileen, I'm sure Noel had no ill intention...it's a takeoff on the old joke that "I went to a fight, and a hockey game broke out!"

Anyone who has followed hockey over the years knows that hockey and fighting (agreed, not necessarily sideline thugs) have always been go-togethers. Like it or not, fighting is almost considered part of the game. And it's not been unheard of for fans to get involved.

I know Noel doesn't need anyone coming to his defense, but as a woman who has been a hockey fan (and has no interest in any other sports) since the Bobby Orr days (1970's), I wanted to reinforce the explanation.

Obama's theme song

I'm still shocked

Someone out there hadn't heard the old hockey joke! :)
JMR

The tax & spend drug war looks racist in the real world.

Should I be shocked that you

Should I be shocked that you didn't read "instead of recycling some old one liner..."? I know the line well, heard it countless times.

I grew up in Chicago...my

I grew up in Chicago...my family had 6 seats, 1st row balcony since the 30s, till they went up to $15 a game. So then my family went to 4 seats and then 3...and then none..Im not that old but I knew Bobby Hull#9 Tony Esposito#35 Bobby Orr Gordie Howe etc. AND, only my close friends and family know this, but my 2nd wife left me for a VERY well known hockey player from the 80s. I know/knew my hockey. Anyways, my point is, fighting is part of hockey and theres 3 things that took down hockey IMHO, no fighting, Gretzky, and adding a gazillion teams. ok 4 the strike.
case closed.

Gretzky?

Paul,

Gretzky brought down hockey? How? When he moved to LA, and eventually NY, the sport became more popular here. ns

I'm scratching my head over

I'm scratching my head over that one too. Gretzky was one of the most exciting players ever. I basically stopped watching hockey in the 90's because it has become so boring, I don't buy the "gazillion" teams argument either. There were tons of teams when Gretsky played in the 80's and that was hockey at its most entertaining. I think hockey has become boring because the quality of player is too good. The NHL now draw from the whole worlds talent where 30 years ago it was primarily a Canadian sport. The players skate so fast now that the quality of defence has outstripped the offence. Still some highly skilled guys out there but the number of scoring chances in a game are a fragment of what they once were. Perhaps PG doesn't like Gretzky because he sent the Blackhawks "to the golf course" so many years.

Shrub and DBO

Gents,

Well, on the flipside, I think Gretzky was overrated. Frankly, I think the most talented of the Oilers was Messier who, unlike Gretzky, had great success AWAY from Edmonton. By contrast, Gretzky's best years were in Edmonton.

Gretzky needed the supporting cast members of folks like Grant Fuhr and Paul Coffey, and was MUCH less dominant a player without them. By contrast, Messier was spectacular regardless of the other folks on the ice. JMHO. ns

Disagree with you on this

Disagree with you on this one Noel. No question that his best years were in Edmonton and by the time that he went to LA his best years were behind him. Also no question that Messier was the more complete player. But that whole Edmonton team was built on Gretzky's skill in the early years. Messier, Coffey, Jari Kurry, Anderson were all 4th round or higher draft picks. Gretzky elevated their play and made them.To watch this man form age 18-28 was simply amazing. Very much like Tiger today. If you go by stats alone there's nobody within a country mile of Gretzky.

The Great One helped spawn

The Great One helped spawn Mario, which helped spawn Sid the Kid, those two of which saved hockey in Pittsburgh, and made Pittsburgh one of NHL's biggest tv markets, let alone merchandising.

NHL ratings are up, attendence is up, too.

The kids of my day grew up worshipping the Steelers first, and the Pirates second. The kids of today grow up worshiping the Steelers first, and Penguins second, and the Succos a distant third.

Shrub, I must be a few

Shrub,

I must be a few years older than you because I remember the great Pirates teams before Terry Bradshaw and co. showed up on the scene. In the late 60's early 70's I'm sure it must have been Pirates #1 Steelers #2. Stargell, Clemente, Alou etc were great. I was a big Brooks Robbinson/Orioles fan and I remember just about putting a bat through the tv in 1971 much to my fathers angst.

haha I grew up in the

haha

I grew up in the 70's, right as the Steelers got huge. You were right: it was Pirates first, and everybody else a DISTANT second!

I guess that is why there are 11 Steelers from the 70's in the Hall of Fame, as well as Art Rooney. Their impact changed this city!

Whiney Wie

Is anyone else as tired as I am hearing the Wie Whine? "I feel my game is a lot better. Obviously the score doesn't show it, but I know what I need to work on," Wie said. "I gave it my best today and I felt like I did a lot of good things and hopefully that outshines the ones I made mistakes on."

Again, she can't win on the LPGA tour; she can't even qualify these days, it seems; and yet she insists on playing against the men, always in these second-tier tournaments. Her goal? -- making the cut at a men's tournament! What a cheap goal, IMO.

And finally, here's her whine of the day: "I think if I played a couple [PGA events] in a row, it would be a different story". Yeah, right.

I agree, what a shame to.

I agree, what a shame to. She will probably be talentless before long, she has no good role models to look up to or to help her with her game. If she would participate fully in the LPGA, then she would learn and be given the tools to maybe one day compete against the men.

BTW anyone who is offended by fighting in Hocky or mention of it, should really get a grip. As long as they allow it, it will be the brunt of many crass jokes.

"Television is a freak show" Bernie Goldberg

Just to clarify, I for one,

Just to clarify, I for one, am not "offended" by fighting in Hockey. The point is that Hockey is not just fighting, but hey, read into it whatever you like.

 read into it whatever you

read into it whatever you like.

 OK, thanks!!

As was pointed out, Bay has

As was pointed out, Bay has about 5 at bats that have mattered in his career so far. Manny has had hundreds, over 30% of which he's delivered on.

But, I can understand how an organization would get tired of the constant Manny-ness. They called his bluff.

Here's an

Here's an interesting piece about Jason Bay.

Ouch!

As a Panther fab and Lightning fan

I have to say that when I think of fighting by players in Sports, I always think of hockey and when I think of fans behaving badly, I think of riots, and the sports of Soccer and Basket Ball.

I am a tennis fan and football fan.

My brother played Rugby for many years and I never saw a fight although Rugby is a form of controlled mayhem.

just sayin

Delsa,

Have you ever seen the Jets play the Olphins at Joe Robbie?

Congrats to Rafa

Congrats to Rafa - The #1 ranking is obviously well-earned.

I'm still hoping for Roger to break Pete's record. (Roger, please hire a coach. Go ahead and splurge.)

Just in case you missed this - After the Wimbledon final between Roger and Rafa, Novak Djokovic (ranked #3) texted to his PR manager (who is also Rafa's) "I still have a lot to learn."
