Associated Press writer Douglass K. Daniel today reports "A housing issue: McCain not sure how many they own." The article points out that John and Cindy McCain are affluent. It then links McCain's age with his difficulty in responding to the question of "how many houses he and his wealthy wife actually own:"
With most Americans feeling the pinch of a worsening economy, the remark allows McCain's opponents to suggest that he personally is far beyond its grip and cannot feel their pain. It also displays the vast wealth of the McCains — his wife Cindy's fortune has been estimated at $100 million. It's also another example of how McCain, nearly 72, can be fuzzy and forgetful on some facts.
Not mentioned are the several examples of Barack Obama being fuzzy and forgetful on some facts. In a May, 2008 TV interview he repeatedly called Matt Lauer “Tim.” In late April, he advised a North Carolina crowd that it was March. He has even mentioned there are 57 states. Perhaps his most notable memory loss is the one associated with Reverend Jeremiah Wright. After 20 years, Obama couldn’t remember a single objectionable comment from his former pastor. In similar vein, the candidate appears to have forgotten his positions on a wide array of issues ranging from Iraq to gun control.
The mainstream media focus on John McCain's age. What explanation do they have for Obama's confusion? Then again, perhaps one isn't needed; they don't harp on the Democrat's fuzziness and forgetfulness.

If this had been left to Obama surrogates (and by surrogates I mean MSM, left wing blogs, & the wackos at MSNBC), McCain probably would not have created a commercial on the subject & certainly would not have done it as fast. The MSM has previously demonstrated it is more than willing to carry the water for Obama. Obama should of just sat back & let them do their dirty work.

Obama's Tragical History Tour '08
August 21, 2008 - 21:33 ET by Captain KirockMB, Obama has stepped in it so many times I've lost track.
One good one was a few months ago when the Dems could no longer ignore the success of the surge in Iraq. The Dems & the MSM narrative became, "Well, the surge may have worked in Iraq, but it doesn't matter because Afghanistan is the real front on the war on terror." Obama picked up on this theme and talked a lot about how much more important Afghanistan was than Iraq, even though Bin Laden himself just a year earlier said Iraq was the frontline for the war on the West.
Anyway, the GOP and McCain then pointed out that the Senate subcommittee Obama heads has some jurisdiction over Afghanistan, yet Obama's subcommittee had never held one hearing because Obama was too busy running for President. Oh, and that Obama had NEVER been to Afghanistan, yet Obama insisted it was the central front.
A few weeks later, after persistent badgering from McCain, Obama was brow-beaten into going to Iraq & Afghanistan. But that wasn't good enough and Obama turned into his World Tour '08.
Of course, Obama's Tragical History Tour was a huge miscalculation and his campaign has been on a steady decline ever since. His decline started shorty before the World Tour, but it really picked up speed as that sham went on. The end result: a 15 point swing for McCain.

The political silly season has begun
August 21, 2008 - 16:53 ET by pocomocoJudging by the articles appearing on NB and in the MSM, the political ‘silly season’ has officially started. It can also be called the 'grasping at straws' season.
Like clock work, it always occurs during the final days of a presidential campaign and can be identified by the outrageous inanity being put out by a candidate and the MSM in an effort to influence we voters.
The 2008 presidential ‘silly season’ officially began yesterday when an Obama ad torturously suggested that McCain is not qualified to be President because he couldn’t remember how many houses owned.
During the 2000 presidential ‘silly season’ Al Gore colored his face and wore Alpha Male clothing in an attempt to look like Ronald Reagan.
During the 2004 presidential ‘silly season’, John Kerry stood on the podium at the Democrat Nation Convention and proclaimed “I am John Kerry and I am reporting for duty”. This from a man who has made it abundantly plain that he hates the military and gained his political recognition by appearing before Congress in the 1970’s and lying about the military atrocities that supposedly occurred in Viet Nam.
So, just sit back, relax, have a brewski, and laugh. Because when all is said and done – it will not mean a damn thing!
Perhaps a logical explanation?
August 21, 2008 - 16:59 ET by nkviking75Unlike his opponent, Sen. McCain actually works at being a Senator. I can imagine that keeping track of real estate is something Cindy McCain takes care of. After all, she's a very capable business woman. I don't know why John doesn't know how many houses he owns, but I can imagine some possibilities. For example, Cindy's companies might own some rental properties. Or they may be houses Cindy's wealthy family owned before she married John. In other words, there may be a logical explanation. But the MSM doesn't really care.

Right Sarc - we would have had a field day with Kerry
August 22, 2008 - 10:11 ET by Dee Bunkbut it's completely different. Kerry was an elite snob who demonized the rich. It was a joke and a reason to draw attention to his hypocrisy.
McCain doesn't demonize the rich and doesn't patronize the poor and middle class. He's not at all snobbish - it's completely different. We don't care how many houses anyone has unless they care about how many houses others have. It's especially fodder when they are rich themselves.
Obama is rich - he's a hypocrite. He demonizes the rich and thinks they're selfish for not wanting to be taxed more (for the good of the poor) yet he has been "super rich" by his own definition ($250,000) for a while and only managed to hover around 1% in charitable donations. If a rich person only wants to give that little, I'm not going to judge them, unless they try to claim some sort of moral superiority in caring for the poor. It's only natural.
He's demonized big oil & CEOs, at least...
August 22, 2008 - 10:18 ET by sarcasmoI don't see that much difference, frankly, and I suspect the American people will feel the same. August 22, 2008 - 10:51 ET by Dee BunkI know he wants to lower the corporate tax rates and is for gas tax holiday rather than a windfall profit tax which are the opposite positions of Obama and Kerry.
The only thing I'm aware of McCain demonizing is Corporate CEO's who have bad performance and are still payed exorbitant salaries and/or criminal performance that they are not held responsible for. He's for shareholders approving CEO pay not the government confiscating their pay for their own corrupt purposes. I don't think he has any problems with CEO's who make huge salaries when the company and it's shareholders are making a reasonable profit and not acting criminally.
I agree that many people would feel the same as you (that it's no different) because many people buy into the class warfare advanced by the dems and the media. I don't. I could care less how much someone else makes no matter how rich they are as long as they aren't trying to take away other people's chances to become just as wealthy.

Oh, how I wish this were true. In the REAL world, though, there are two standards, one for how the MSM treats Democrats and another for how they treat Republicans.
Since you mentioned Kerry, he made several "gaffs" that were under-reported by the MSM. So did Gore, Hillary, Obama, and just about every other Democratic candidate in memory. The MSM usually explains those gaffs as something that are"nuanced," thoughtful," "irrelevant," or "misleading" and describes the person who made them as "tired," or "mentally exhausted," or that the question itself was a "trap."
Republicans, on the other hand, are rarely given a break and any "gaffs" they make are repeated ad nauseum by the MSM, with lots of “analysis“ throw in which explains just how unsuitable that Republican is for office.
