On 'The Colbert Report,' Gay Author Mocks Boring 'Straight White People'

Wednesday night on "The Colbert Report," author Charles Kaiser was on the show to plug his book, The Gay Metropolis. Hoping to get the Colbert bump, Kaiser talked about how his book chronicles the history of gay culture and society in New York starting from 1940. One of his claims is that homosexuals and African Americans are “both more interesting than straight white people.” He also discussed being open with who you are or else you become like Mark Foley: “You become a congressmen who sends nasty notes to teenagers over the computer.” He lastly implies but denies that J.Edgar Hoover is gay.

Stephen Colbert constantly pointed out when Kaiser was stereotyping people, whether it is dance choreographers, white straight people or Republican congressmen. “I wish I could stereotype but I’m not allowed to. I’m not gay. I have to play by the rules you make but don’t live by,” Colbert stated after Kaiser put the label on dance choreographers being gay. Kaiser jumped into the interview trying to show how exciting and interesting minorities are compared to straight white people:

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Colbert: "You say that gay people thrive in places like New York."

Kaiser: "That is correct."

Colbert: "Why? Why do they thrive here in New York? What gives them power here?"

Kaiser: "Well, critical mass first of all." Colbert: "They're like a nuclear bomb. They're very, very... they're very dangerous is what you're saying. We agree on that."

Kaiser: "Without gay people and black people we have nothing but straight white males."

Colbert: "Don't equate black people and straight people. Don't just say the black people are on board with the gay thing. I know you're both oppressed minorities."

Kaiser: "They're both more interesting than straight white people. That's all."

Then add another snippet to intro the Foley exchange:

Colbert: "Now, nothing against gay people. But why do they have to be open about their gayness? For years... I'm serious here. For years they were, you know, they weren't any gay but we didn't have to hear about it."

Kaiser: "We discovered if you're not open about who you are, there are two possibilities. You become a Republican congressman who then sends nasty notes to teenagers over the computer or you lead a large congregation in Colorado of Christians."

Colbert: "Now you're stereotyping Republican congressmen."

Kaiser: "Absolutely right."

Colbert: "And members of mega churches. It’s okay for you to be a bigot."

Lastly, Colbert and Kaiser discussed former FBI director J. Edgar Hoover. Kaiser claims never to make the assertion Hoover was gay, but Colbert pointed out that Kaiser did in fact write about him in a book named The Gay Metropolis. Kaiser then seems to think nothing of it because Hoover is dead, so there are no legal ramifications for making false claims about a dead person.

Colbert: "You said that J. Edgar Hoover was gay."

Kaiser: "I didn't say that. He did not have a sexual relationship with his aide. They went to work together everyday in the same car. They came home together. They lived around the block together. Did they do it? I have no idea. I don’t assert that they did."

Colbert: "Okay. But you put him in a book called The Gay Metropolis."

Kaiser: "That's true. You can't libel a dead person, Stephen."

Colbert: "What?"

Kaiser: "You can't libel a dead person."

Colbert: "Why not?"

Kaiser: "They can’t sue you. It's the law."

Colbert: "I'm big on slandering dead people."

The feelings mutual,

The feeling's mutual, straight white people are bored with gay authors. So na na na.

"There are two types of people in this country; those who provide freedom and those who enjoy it." MM says...

Maybe he's right.  Perhaps

Maybe he's right.  Perhaps we all should parade around in coloful feather boas ...

This guy should watch it!

Hello, is this the Sharpton/Jackson hotline? you'll never guess what I just heard... What? he gets a pass?... Wait "reverend" I wasn't suggesting that Hoover was the issue. I don't think a protest will work see he is dead!

What a QUEER world this guy lives in!

"Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana!" Groucho

Oh Really??

If the whole world were gay and 'minority,' then the whole world would have aids, ruled by dictators, and waiting for the straight white man to form America and capitalism to bail them out.

Screw you!

(Mica has had it with these a**holes)

Yeah, strait people are oh

Yeah, strait people are oh so boring. Considering we can procreate, marry, raise children, etc. This guy is an idiot. Oh, and as for blacks being more interesting than whites? lol. No comment, or else I will be considered racist.

Temperance and humility is

Temperance and humility is boring.

It would appear the only

It would appear the only reason this queer is alive is because of a boring white hetero male he calls dad!

OUCH!

Maybe he is gay because his Dad is known by a lot number from the local sperm bank.

Nice

Double Whammy!

Now who's going to take us to round three?

"Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana!" Groucho

What a Class A jackass.

Yeah, black people like Michael Vick who love midnight dog fighting and other thug mentalities are sure as hell FAR from boring. Naked liberal freaks from San Freaksicko who "ride naked for peace" as shown at zombietime.com are definitely FAR from boring. I'll bet this ass clown's idea of a 'non-boring' people and society is total anarchy.

Yeah, working for a living, living in the 'burbs, having morals and values with traditions, raising a family, going on vacations, going to church, and other social events that "boring" straight white people do is not conducive to this idiot's idea of America. Jackasses that think like that communist lib need to get run over when trying to jay walk, because using a cross walk and a signal is probably "boring."

Liberalism - indoctrinating one unused mind at a time.

Flames like Kaiser are

Flames like Kaiser are easily bored and are always looking for a new thrill.  First they got bored with the opposite sex, then they got bored with in-the-closet 'gays,' soon they'll be bored with out-of-the-closet 'gays.'  After that, it won't be long until even flamers who could make Liberace and Elton John look Amish will bore them to tears and they'll have to invent a new, and even more outre'category to quench their boredom.

Look! Up in the sky!

Who's the superhero in The Gay Metropolis?  Fabulousman?

When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.

Gay Super Hero?

That would be "K-Y Man"

Gay Superheroes...

That would be: Buttman and Rubbin

As soon as I read your

As soon as I read your comment I knew I had to reply, but just couldn't bring myself to do it..............Oh!

It's just that those blue tights and the red cape are sooooo not in this season, and what is the deal with that big yellow S? And those shoes! I think we better fly to the village immediately and do some shopping before anyone else sees you like this!

Ok, I feel better!

Isn't the Flaming Slackjaw already taken?

I'm pretty sure his alter ego is Micheal Moore!

I can't find my StupidHero reference manual.

Kaiser on Colbert

Unfortunately, Mr. McVeigh and Mr. Manson were not boring. When the Zyklon-B canisters dropped down into the chambers, the women, children, and old people were destined to experience at least a few non-boring seconds. So what's the point?

Mr. Kaiser gets to reverse roles in the poke-em-in-the-eye remarks that've been exchanged over the centuries between heterosexuals and homosexuals(what's with letting them pick the term "gay"? We've granted them they're choice of territory.) If he manages to get us to return the spite, the dude has won this round.

Gay Culture?

These people as in liberals sit around in dreaming up the goofiest flat world ideas about things no one earth could care about. Who cares if white people are the dull or stellar. It makes absolutely no sense.

Nor does a sex act define you as a "culture". If actions do then of course we have the KKK culture, NASCAR culture, tattoo culture and a coming favorite a fat Rosie culture.

Culture is an entire civilization in being civilized. Civilized means abiding by societal laws meant to protect the prime directive. The prime directive of all societies is to produce a healthy and stable next generation of children to perpetuate that people.

Gays have gotten away with too long being societal thieves in trying to cheat standards and base their sexual actions which overwhelm them and disrupt the prime directive of a culture and liberals have gotten away with too long enabling sodomite and asteroth religions for their votes, but leaving them to be be slaughtered in disease. It is quite illegal to provide dope, booze or any other addict the means to self harm themselves and yet liberals get cheered for being Dr. Death in the suicide of homosexuals.

Kaiser is without merit and is one of a number of the gay sect's worse enemies.

God help them all.

Never thought I'd say this... But I'll say it...

Nice job, Stephen Colbert.

Let's see:  Sen.

Let's see:

Sen. Brownback, pretty dull. BUT Bill Murray, pretty entertaining. Two straight guys, opposite ends of the Interesting Continuum. Hm...quite the conundrum.

Heterophobe!

Heterophobe!

others are oppressed

"Colbert: 'Don't equate black people and straight people. Don't just say
the black people are on board with the gay thing. I know you're both
oppressed minorities
.'"

Haven't Jews been oppressed? Aren't they targeted by the KKK and neo-Nazis, among other hate groups?

If conservatives are RIGHT, then liberals must be WRONG.
Thompson/Rice

 More proof of the

More proof of the unbelievably obnoxious and narcissisitic elite's condescending attitude towards the very people who are actually slaving away and keeping this country together and free for jerks like him to mock and degrade.   Where do they keep digging up these gobshites from?   This boring white person is killing herself trying to raise four boys properly amidst the sewer culture Pinky is trying to drown us in.

Anyone who says they support the troops but not the mission is a liar.

Boring, straight White-people

This White man is fed up with the media's non-stop hatred of his race and culture.

One day REAL AMERICANS are going to teach a lesson to our friends in the media.  They've been daring us to for decades!

There is hope that someone

There is hope that someone will do something someday.

Yikes. "Real Americans"

Yikes. "Real Americans" being boring white people? An army of CPAs?

Pull up folks...really...

Some of you are proving the lib talking point that conservatives are bigoted homophobes.  Some of your posts (Mica the Magnificent, in particular) are quite unsettling.

More to the point, I think Colbert summed up this guys rhetoric with one comment:

“I wish I could stereotype but I’m not allowed to. I’m not gay. I have to play by the rules you make but don’t live by,”

So often, we empower the groups that we arrogantly assume are 'lesser than'.  In turn, we give them dominion over political correctness.  Hearing such ridiculous comments from this author bugs me too, but I feel no need to stoop to his level.  I'm better than that.

-gordy.

Hi Gordy, I completely

Hi Gordy, I completely agree with your statements. Everyone who has taken a debate class knows that when the attacks are personal, then that person has lost.

That being said, I think there is a point to be made that people on the Left and especially in the homosexual lifestyle and movement demand tolerance and respect and call anyone who doesn't give it to them a homophobe, but they are just as intolerent and disrespectful.  (They also cram their lifestyle down our throats by demanding acceptance but that is for another post.)  There is a glaring hypocrisy in this that should be pointed out.

Dutch

PS - The term "homophobe" has always bugged me.  I am not afraid of gay people.  I just disagree with their lifestyle on a number of grounds.  Two completely different things.

darth...

" I am not afraid of gay people."

Denial is the first sign of a problem.     ;-)

I don't think anybody is

I don't think anybody is afraid of gay people, I mean they only
continue to spread the aids virus, which was allowed to continue when
it could have been reduced to nothing because nobody
wanted to single them out. What's to be afraid of? But other than that
the only worry I have about gays is critisising my bad taste in
wardrobe.

I am not prejudice, I hate everyone equally!

"Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana!" Groucho

No one singled out gay

No one singled out gay people for the spread of AIDS? Really?

And hetero people spread it, too.
