Kristol Cracks Up When Dean Claims 'Hillary Is Change'

Think of Hillary Clinton.  I know, I know, but work with me. Now think of the first 100 things that come to mind.  Is "change" one of them?  It is for Howard Dean, and Bill Kristol found that hilarious. On today's Morning Joe, explaining his early endorsement of Hillary, Dean claimed that "Hillary Clinton is change." That was enough to provoke hearty laughter in the normally-composed Kristol.

Manifestly in a jocular mood, Kristol later turned the PC tables on Mika Brzezinski. When she claimed that young people are very enthusiastic about Hillary, Kristol told Mika that she needed to hang out with a more "diverse" group of them.

BILL KRISTOL: I think the biggest change from 2012 to 2016 could be among young voters. I do not believe that if it's Marco Rubio vs. Hillary Clinton that Hillary Clinton will win the 18-30 year-old vote by --

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Umm --

KRISTOL: She may win it marginally. She will win it by nothing like what Barack Obama won against Mitt Romney.

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: I see such a --

KRISTOL: You see those excited 24 year-olds?

MIKA: Yes!

KRISTO: Hillary is it? That's --

MIKA: Yes, I do!

KRISTOL: We hang out with different 24 year-olds.

. . .

HOWARD DEAN: One of the reasons I decided to endorse her early, she was the only candidate generating enthusiasm. This generation, what I call the first global generation, wants change. They actually don't care much about politics. But they want change. And that's what attracted them to Barack Obama --

KRISTOL: -- and Hillary Clinton says "change?"

DEAN: And Hillary Clinton is change.

KRISTOL: Come on, Howard. [Bursts into laughter].

DEAN: Because Hillary Clinton is a woman. And that's what they want. That is how they see it, I promise you. And you go out and poll for it.

MIKS: We're not talking about whether it is change and we could argue that. But that's what young people see as change.

DEAN: It's all perception. We know that.

MIKA: All right, Bill Kristol and Howard. No, you know what I'm talking about.

KRISTOL: I know what you are talking about. But you've got to broaden your aquaintance of young people, Mika. Hang out with the diverse. It's a diverse group of young people. Not all think Hillary Clinton is the kind of change they want.
