Heilemann Hails Hillary: 'Looser, Funnier, More Spontaneous' In Latest Speech

February 25th, 2015 6:10 PM

When on his Bloomberg TV show today it came John Heilemann's turn to comment on a clip of Hillary from a speech to a women's conference in Silicon Valley yesterday, I sincerely thought he was going to criticize Clinton's canned delivery.

But to my amazement, Heilemann hailed Hillary as "much looser, much more spontaneous, much funnier" than she's been in the past.  Talk about the soft bigotry of low expectations! Have a look at the video and judge Hillary's delivery for yourself.

My two cents say you could virtually hear her handler's voice in her head: "Smile.  Turn. Now raise your arms.  Give that drawn out 'soooo.'  Wait for applause," etc.

Heilemann also broke out the MSM's standard defense of Dem stiffs: they're much warmer in private.  He said that the supposedly funny, loose Hillary of the clip is "is the Hillary Clinton you [Mark Halperin] and I and some of other reporters know, not the stiff Hillary Clinton, not the robotic Hillary Clinton." Right. And in private, Dukakis put Rodney Dangerfield to shame.

Note: IMHO, Hillary's shtick of dropping broad hints about running is really getting old. Fish or cut bait.

JOHN HEILEMANN: Hillary Clinton broke a long silence yesterday with a paid speech and I do mean paid. Unless you think a reported 300 K for that speech is chump change. She was out in Silicon Valley. She was talking about women and technology and she sat for a Q. and A. She didn't make much news. But she did kind of wink at us.

HILLARY CLINTON: My friend Madeline Albright famously said there is a special spot in hell for women who do not help other women. So, -- what you do does not have to be big and dramatic. You don't have to run for office. [PAUSE} [Laughter] [Applause] Although, if you do, more power to you.

(. . .)

HEILEMANN: Just what you saw in that video we just played, a much looser, much more spontaneous, much funnier Hillary Clinton. The Hillary Clinton that you and I and some of other reporters know, not the stiff Hillary Clinton, not the robotic Hillary Clinton. A different, just a whole different look than she had back in 2007 and through most of 2014. I think you can't stress enough how important that is to her candidacy.
