Year in Review: MRC Latino's Top 5 Stories

December 31st, 2016 9:00 AM

As 2016 winds down to a close, here are the top 5 stories from MRC Latino that caught your attention and helped hold the media accountable:

1: Univision Anchor's Electioneering Sparks 'Ramos Must Go' Drive: Univision anchor Jorge Ramos slipped into partisan madness over the course of this past election, which rendered him incapable to serve "as a credible, impartial news anchor for Univision's millions of viewers". This led to the launch of the "Ramos Must Go!" movement, which called for its namesake to step away from the Univision anchor desk until after the election. MRC President Brent Bozell's debate challenge, alas, remains unanswered.

2. Bernie Hits Bump On Univision: Speechless on Socialism's Failures: Here's proof positive that there still are some at Univision that remain in the journalism business (in this case, on the affiliate side of the operation). Watch socialist Bernie Sanders squirm uncomfortably as KMEX-34 anchor León Krauze asks Sanders (and follows-up after the first dodge) about the recent catastrophic failures of socialism in Latin America:

LEÓN KRAUZE, UNIVISION: I am sure that you know about this topic: various leftist governments, especially the populists, are in serious trouble in Latin America. The socialist model in Venezuela has the country near collapse. Argentina, also Brazil, how do you explain that failure?

BERNIE SANDERS, DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE: You are asking me questions…

LEÓN KRAUZE, UNIVISION: I am sure you’re interested in that.

BERNIE SANDERS, DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE: I am very interested, but right now I’m running for President of the United States.

LEÓN KRAUZE, UNIVISION: So you don’t have an opinion about the crisis in Venezuela?

BERNIE SANDERS, DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE: Of course I have an opinion, but as I said, I’m focused on my campaign.

3: Hillary's Alleged Lesbianism Makes "Mega" News: Mega does what Mega wants, unencumbered by the pressures of Clinton Foundation donor ownership.

4. Univision Rummages Through Terrorist Apartment, Breaks Accidental News: Univison News, in keeping with its tradition of barging into crime scenes, did likewise at the home of the man who executed the terror attack at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. But this time, they inadvertently revealed that the shooter's wife was already in the wind.

5. Election 2016 Recap: Univision Lost Bigly: The network which had the most at stake this past election was its biggest loser. Univision needed Hillary Clinton to win in order to secure much-needed regulatory relief which would ensure its long-term survival. None of that happened, though.
