Pro-Amnesty 'Praying' Day on Univision, Telemundo Morning Shows

April 18th, 2016 6:38 PM

One of the hosts of Univision’s morning show, Karla Martínez, told viewers she’s "praying" for the success of Obama's sweeping executive actions on immigration.

Univision's Despierta América had no time for the opposing arguments of the 26 states who are challenging Obama’s unilateral gutting of federal immigration law before the United States Supreme Court. No time to the other side of the case, much less time to take into account the constitutional considerations that are also very much at issue.

Previewing Univision’s one-sided report, Despierta América host Karla Martinez verbalized the network’s bias in the case with stunning clarity.

KARLA MARTINEZ, CO-HOST, UNIVISION: All of us have been praying so that this happens, literally, many children – almost 4.5 million if I am not mistaken, around 4.5 million – have 1 or 2 parents that are undocumented in this country. Therefore these children would be very benefitted from this decision.

Journalistically, Telemundo’s take was marginally better. That network’s competing morning show, Un Nuevo Día, gave Teresa Farfán of the Texas’ Attorney General’s Office a brief moment to explain her state’s position in the case. The rest of the report, however, was filled with the voices of multiple pro-amnesty activists.

In 2010, interviewed by Univision's Eddie "Piolín" Sotelo on taking unilateral action on immigration, President Obama said "I am president, I am not king. I can't do these things just by myself." Now, both Univision and Telemundo appear to be more concerned with simply advancing amnesty, rather than recognizing and respecting the Constitution’s limits on presidential power.

Below is the transcript of the cited segment of Univision's Despierta América aired the morning of April 18:

DESPIERTA AMERICA

4/18/16

7:02:55 AM - 7:03:28 AM EST | 33 SEC

KARLA MARTINEZ, CO-HOST, UNIVISION: Also, today is a very important day because the Supreme Court starts the revisions of the executive actions that would benefit almost 5 million immigrants. Today we have layer Mario Lobo who will clear all our questions about the turns said executive actions can take. You know that all us have been praying so that this happens, literally, many children – almost 4.5 million if I am not mistaken, around 4.5 million – have 1 or 2 parents that are undocumented in this country. Therefore these children would be very benefitted from this decision.
