Oscar De La Hoya Challenges Trump to Boxing Match

April 28th, 2016 5:00 PM

During an April 27thinterview for Cavuto: Coast to Coast, Oscar De La Hoya, promoting the upcoming May 7th Golden Boy Promotions fight between Canelo Alvarez and Amir Khan, decided to call out Donald Trump to a boxing match while simultaneously inviting him to watch the fight he was promoting. The retired boxer also talked about how he likes Bernie and considers Hillary Clinton to be amazing.

NEIL CAVUTO, HOST: Do you ever feel the temptation yourself (to fight again)? George Foreman came back, you know, Larry Holmes tried to.

OSCAR DE LA HOYA, RETIRED BOXER, PROMOTER: I was close, and the only guy that I would come back to fight, and maybe just for charity – I’ll donate everything to charity, is against Donald Trump.

NEIL CAVUTO, HOST: Really? He just might take you up on that.

Yes, the man who used to get paid to punch people in the face for a living and held 10 different boxing titles in 6 different weight classes, wants to get in the ring with someone he said he wants to “knock out with one punch.”

He also offered Trump tickets to the very event he is promoting, a joke/mismatch of a fight that should end in a KO victory for De La Hoya’s fighter (Canelo) within the first 5 rounds.

Trump, no stranger to sitting ringside at boxing matches, was in the building to witness Gennady Golovkin - pretty much the best boxer on the planet with a streak of 22 consecutive knockout victories – destroy his opponent in October and even met up with the boxer in his locker room before the fight. Golovkin - who De La Hoya and Canelo have been avoiding like the plague – gives me a great idea… I don’t know about you guys, but I’d be willing to pay a pretty penny for a Trump-De La Hoya / Canelo-Golovkin doubleheader pay-per-view showdown.

That’s a sure-fire way to Make Boxing Great Again.

Below are excerpts from the April 27th Oscar De La Hoya interview on Cavuto: Coast to Coast:

OSCAR DE LA HOYA, RETIRED BOXER, PROMOTER: I actually want to take this opportunity to invite Mr. Trump to the fight. I have Amir Khan, who’s the most popular Muslim fighter from the U.K., fighting most popular Mexican fighter, who is a superstar named Canelo Alvarez. Opening up T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas on May 7th, live on HBO PPV. Trump, let me invite you so you can take a look at what a Muslim and a Mexican can generate in this beautiful country of the USA.

NEIL CAVUTO, HOST: But when you talk to your Mexican friends, and you’re a big star on either side of the border, there’s a lot of anger on both sides now.

OSCAR DE LA HOYA, RETIRED BOXER, PROMOTER: There is.

NEIL CAVUTO, HOST: So, are you a Hillary Clinton person?

OSCAR DE LA HOYA, RETIRED BOXER, PROMOTER: What it is, there’s a lot of anger, a lot of confusion, a lot of things have been said. Let’s re-think, you know? Let’s give everybody a chance, a shot, at re-thinking.

NEIL CAVUTO, HOST: Who do you like? I can’t picture you voting for Donald Trump… that could change. Hillary? Bernie?

OSCAR DE LA HOYA, RETIRED BOXER, PROMOTER: Bernie I like. I really do. Hillary is amazing.

NEIL CAVUTO, HOST: He’s (Bernie) going to take all your money you know?

OSCAR DE LA HOYA, RETIRED BOXER, PROMOTER: Well, yeah. Exactly.

NEIL CAVUTO, HOST: That’s a lot, you’re worth half a billion dollars.

OSCAR DE LA HOYA, RETIRED BOXER, PROMOTER: I want this country to be the best country it can be and the best country is the USA.

NEIL CAVUTO, HOST: Do you care much about how much you pay in taxes?

OSCAR DE LA HOYA, RETIRED BOXER, PROMOTER: Oh absolutely. I talk to my money manager.

NEIL CAVUTO, HOST: So you like Bernie Sanders, you know he’s going to tax you at 90%

OSCAR DE LA HOYA, RETIRED BOXER, PROMOTER: 90%? Well, then, I better vote the other way then.

NEIL CAVUTO, HOST: Do you think you should pay more (in taxes)?

OSCAR DE LA HOYA, RETIRED BOXER, PROMOTER: Should I pay more? That’s a loaded question. Can somebody ring the bell please? *laughter*
