More Obama Flip Flops the Media Will Ignore

Update: Barack Obama's policy switches are giving the Left whiplash

Everyone can add two more Obama flip-flops to the ever-growing list.  Obama managed to make a full circle twist on the war in Iraq.  After gathering the liberal masses on his promise to quickly withdraw troops from Iraq, now that its time to tack to the center he makes a full reversal.  In his words, he has always held the right to "refine" his position on Iraq depending on circumstances.

“I’ve always said that the pace of withdrawal would be dictated by the safety and security of our troops and the need to maintain stability. That assessment has not changed,” he said. “And when I go to Iraq and have a chance to talk to some of the commanders on the ground, I’m sure I’ll have more information and will continue to refine my policies.”…

“My 16-month timeline, if you examine everything that I’ve said, was always premised on making sure that our troops were safe,” he said. “I said that based on the information that we had received from our commanders that one to two brigades a month could be pulled out safely, from a logistical perspective. My guiding approach continues to be that we’ve got to make sure that our troops are safe and that Iraq is stable.”

He added, “I’m going to continue to gather information to find out whether those conditions still hold.”

ABC's Political Punch Blog is one of the few MSM spots not to ignore this, and they seem to be concerned.

Obama has almost always built in some wiggle room into his proposal — including promises to consult with commanders on the ground — but surely not always. For point of reference, go to Obama’s own campaign Website:

“Obama will immediately begin to remove our troops from Iraq. He will remove one to two combat brigades each month, and have all of our combat brigades out of Iraq within 16 months. Obama will make it clear that we will not build any permanent bases in Iraq. He will keep some troops in Iraq to protect our embassy and diplomats; if al Qaeda attempts to build a base within Iraq, he will keep troops in Iraq or elsewhere in the region to carry out targeted strikes on al Qaeda.”

It becomes more than obvious how much of a flip-flop this is when you can compare what he said before to what he says now.  Still, he tries to climb down.  I think Philip Klein sums it up best.

It's official. The Obama campaign has entered John Kerry territory when it comes to changing positions on Iraq.

It doesn't end here though.  Since this flip-flop is too big for all the media to ignore, certain ones will paint it up and "refine" it as much as possible.  Also, I don't want to beat Obama up on this one too much since its a "change" in the right direction.  After all, whats the difference between Obama's "refined" position on the Iraq War and the position McCain has always held?  Obama couldn't end the day with just one flip-flop.  He had to hit a double whammy!

The second "refined position" the media will do their best to ignore is on abortion.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama says "mental distress" should not qualify as a health exception for late term-abortions, a key distinction not embraced by many supporters of abortion rights.

In an interview this week with "Relevant," a Christian magazine, Obama said prohibitions on late-term abortions must contain "a strict, well defined exception for the health of the mother."

Obama then added: "Now, I don't think that 'mental distress' qualifies as the health of the mother. I think it has to be a serious physical issue that arises in pregnancy, where there are real, significant problems to the mother carrying that child to term."

Last year, after the Supreme Court upheld a federal ban on late-term abortions, Obama said he "strongly disagreed" with the ruling because it "dramatically departs from previous precedents safeguarding the health of pregnant women."

Last year Obama said he would trust women to make the right decision on partial birth abortion. This new position on abortion by Barack goes against his 100% NARAL rating in 2005, 2006, and 2007.  Of course the MSM will not report any of these details to you.  This is why you read Newsbusters.

Get it Right

Please get it right. Democrats, particularly a prometheus like Obama don't flip-flop. They are nuanced.  If you  had only listened carefully to Obama'a original position you would have found he left enough room in there to do anything on Iraq.

Republican's like McCain flip-flop, especially when big oil gets a hold of them.

Common Sense

Common sense people know what Obama implied in his first position and the stark difference his "refined" position has.  This should effect his followers more than anyone, unless they think he is lying to tack to the center.

It Does Not Matter What Obama Says

To his acolyltes, it does not matter what Obama says. Obama delftly uses platitudes like "hope" and "change" that mean whatever the listener wants them to mean.  Many of his supporters do so out of "feelings" rather than any rational reason.

I remember when a focus group was stunned into silence when Frank Luntz on FOX asked some supporters to name an Obama accomplishment.

I heard most of his BS,

I heard most of his BS, empty suited, sock puppet Presser...

I also had it on CNN..I wished I could think of the gals name that was talking about this and she went to some know it all..asking "did he leave himself wiggle room?" (Julienne Malveaux's daughter)

The exact word was wiggle room...he is leaving himself wiggle room.

seems the same here in your report....they were already prepared...

...as usual.

I'm sure the TROOPS will "Remember" his Original Position

He'd Better wear a Bullet Proof Vest...even though it's safe from the "Insurgents".

Obama will use the Iraq Visit to REVERSE his  "Views"..

Be Prepared for an IRAQ ATTACK from the MSM....

The Republican Revolution will not be Televised

Obama in Iraq... The only

Obama in Iraq...

The only good thing about him going there will be the liberal MSM will be forced to report SOMETHING about Iraq.

45 Communist Goals for America http://www.nationmakers.com/com_goals.htm

Clear Tinker....this will be an MSM SELLING challenge

The ANTI-WAR candidate visiting the War THAT IS WON  !!

Be prepared for an MSM Morphadite...........in your living room.

The Republican Revolution will not be Televised

And the press

will have to venture out of their safe enclaves instead of sending out stringers to bring back reporter's "Eye-witness accounts" . I'm sure they'll feel safe with all those "evil" American military knuckle draggers protecting them.

 Notice how everytime this

Notice how everytime this guy flip-flopps, he always starts off with " I've always said...." So whenever you hear him start off with these words, it's a good bet he's already "refined" his position.

Patience

This is only the first quarter of the general election.

I believe we will not see the barrage of media from McCain Campaign and 527 groups until after the conventions. The general electorate don't start paying attention until after Labor Day. Then you will see all of Obama's words and deeds coming right back at him as well as what Hillary said about him.

While he thinks he can say or do anything he wants and get cover from his MSM, it will all eventually be countered with the truth.

So I am not at all concerned that he keeps drastcally changing his positions and tries to berate reporters that they are not listening, because that is ALWAYS the way  has felt - expecting that no one notices.

Gat New York, I believe

Gat New York,

I believe that it is starting to happen.  As NB said, left wingers are getting wip-lash from Obama's flip-flops.

I have actually witness very strong, pro-Obama supporters say that they hate him now.  That they truly thought he was a different kind of politician.  I just laugh at them and tell them, "Told you so!".  I know, I know, I should give them a hug for being so gullible.  :-)

Obama's honeymoon is over.

Obama was chosen by the Democrats ast their Presidential nominee based on the facts that this morons truly believed he was going to pull America's troops out of Iraq.  Now, we know better.  Obama lied to them.

You know it is funny, Rush Limbaugh called this.  He called the fact that Obama was going to flip-flop on Iraq.  I think it happened sooner than Rush said it would, but it happened.

The extreme left is turning on Obama, just look at Democratic Underground, DailyKos.

fut

To me personally this a good flip flop. I am a liberal that believes withdrawing from Iraq is a very bad thing, with very dire circumstances. Withdrawing from Iraq, is one the things that would have made me vote against him.

I believe Obamas upcoming trip to Iraq will boost his approval ratings and the msm will try to push the fact that he is a person that is willing to listen to the people of the armed forces, whether it is fact or fiction.

Unless the rumor is true that the GOP are holding some pretty damning evidence on video tape of Obama, I believe he will most likely be our POTUS.

Some folks can dish it out but cannot take it

Shawn228, Well, wha'ts

Shawn228,

Well, wha'ts new, I disagree with you.  :-)  Some day we'll find something to agree on.

If the Republicans are smart and get their point accross they will show Americans how Obama is a flip-flopper, much like Kerry before him.

It is not a good thing for Obama to now change his message on Iraq.  I have already experienced with my friends and on internet forums individuals who now hate him because he has said he will not remove troops from Iraq as he promised.

As a friend of mine admitted to me, "I was gullible to believe he was a different kind of politician".  Believe me, today is only the first day and he probably already lost the support of thousands and I venture to say millions of left wingers who want us out of Iraq ASAP.

This is not a good thing for Obama, this will be Obama's undoing.

However, I do agree (and I am glad you admit the media bias) that the media will portray this as a good thing and he will be shown as a hero for going to Iraq.

however, he will have to explain why did he wait over two years.  he will have to explain why he never met with Gen. Petraus and why he formulated his Iraq policy before he spoke with generals on the ground.

As I told you before, American's do not pay attention to the elections until after Labor Day, that's a fact.  Anything done before then is for policial junkies like you and me.  Sadly enough we are not that many.  :-(

Obama has a big problem, it is called, Iraq.  Democrats, including him claimed Iraq was lost.  Their win in 2006 and Obama's win over Hillary are based on this.  Now, it is becoming a problem for them.  Typical though, good news for America, is bad news for Democrat politicians.

I was not a member of Newsbusters before the 06 November elections, but when I was logged on. I still remember the comments.

: This is all wishful thinking by the msm

: There is no way those leftist traitors will get control of congress

Even the POTUS would not even entertain the thought of the Democrats controlling congress and said it was pretty no way America would vote that way.

Well, we all know what happenned don't we? How about when people of Newsbusters said there was no way McCAin would be the nominee?

There are very hard core conservatives members on this site, but it goes to show that the same hard core conservatives don't speak for the majority of the republican party anymore.

There is a democratic tital wave in this country, starting with getting Dennis Hasserts seat and getting two more in special elections, which the GOP desperately tried to hold onto.

With high gas price and the mortgage crises, things are pretty messed up in our nation right now fut. They want change. I don't know if Obama can bring the right kind of change, but I feel many American's feel anything is better than the leadership we have now.

Some folks can dish it out but cannot take it

Been voting since 1959. I

Been voting since 1959. I remember quite well the morning of the election that put peanut brain in the white house. His pastor said live on Good Morning America "We do not allow n------ or other rabble rousers in this church." That evening, no network showed the film clip and it was never seen again. They all qouted him as using the word negro and colored instead. Thank God we now have other sources for news than the self appointed censors of the msm.

Want some syrup to go with

Democratic debate, April 16, Philadelphia: (emphasis mine)

MR. GIBSON: And Senator Obama, your campaign manager, David Plouffe, said, when he is -- this is talking about you -- when he is elected president, we will be out of Iraq in 16 months at the most; there should be no confusion about that.

So you'd give the same rock-hard pledge, that no matter what the military commanders said, you would give the order: Bring them home.

SENATOR OBAMA: Because the commander in chief sets the mission, Charlie. That's not the role of the generals. And one of the things that's been interesting about the president's approach lately has been to say, well, I'm just taking cues from General Petraeus.

Well, the president sets the mission. The general and our troops carry out that mission. And unfortunately we have had a bad mission, set by our civilian leadership, which our military has performed brilliantly. But it is time for us to set a strategy that is going to make the American people safer.

Now, I will always listen to our commanders on the ground with respect to tactics. Once I've given them a new mission, that we are going to proceed deliberately in an orderly fashion out of Iraq and we are going to have our combat troops out, we will not have permanent bases there, once I've provided that mission, if they come to me and want to adjust tactics, then I will certainly take their recommendations into consideration; but ultimately the buck stops with me as the commander in chief.

_________________________________

Let's be very clear. Obama's clear position is that all of the troops must be out in 16 months, unless it is a matter of safety for their removal. Given that we have a professional military, and giving them 16 months to do it, one assumes that troop safety will not be an issue.

By Obama's own words, he has no wiggle room on strategy. It does not matter if we're winning dramatically, or if the Iranians are at the gates of the oil fields. Obama gave no conditions on strategy. He said we will be out in 16 months, no matter if the strategic situation changes or not.

Now he's trying to slip in, without anyone noticing, the phrase "and Iraq is stable." Sorry -- that's why we were telling His Hopefulness to listen to the generals in the first place, but he told us he knew better. The stability of Iraq is strategy, not tactics. And to play this cute little game with words (Just words?!) is why everyone eventually turned on Bill Clinton.

Lord Obama, please don't tell us that it all depends on the what the meaning of 'strategy' is. We don't want to go through that crap again.

If he flips and claims that the strategic situation has changed, and therefore the troops can stay, it will mean that the conservatives were right all along, and that he wasn't as smart as he thought he was. That means his defense against inexperience ("I alone had the correct judgment about Iraq") is debunked. It means that he owes the administration an apology. It means that he has no credibility.

Obama doesn't flip; he

Obama doesn't flip; he doesn't flop.

He uses "nuance," he "recalibrates," he "rewords," he "clarifies," and now he "refines."

Actually, this is not new. He began his backstroke at least as far back as February, as this Amanda Carpenter column shows.

Well, we should also never forget that Obama is a lawyer. He never writes a contract that doesn't embed a loophole he might need later on.

Quick Flip

Obama's flip-flop on the same day -and in the same suit- didn't break John Kerry's "for it before against it" record-setting vacillation, but it did reveal a multiple personality disorder not seen since Sybil.
