Female ‘Transparent’ TV Crew Upset About Trans-Friendly Bathrooms

The crew of possibly the most hardcore transgender acceptance TV show has a problem with the set’s new trans-friendly bathrooms, TMZ reports.

Bathrooms on the set of Amazon’s “Transparent” were changed to unisex in keeping with the spirit of the show, that is, in order to be more inclusive of transgenders, of which there are many on this set. The bathroom sign was altered to feature the universal sign for “all genders,” and restrooms are now open to all.

Women crew members especially were unhappy with the prospect of sharing a bathroom with men and transgenders. Some on the set were too scared to complain for fear of being called “transphobic.”

“Transparent” stars Jeffrey Tambor as a father of three who breaks the news to his family that he believes he is actually a woman. The show’s third season comes out this year.

The show is loosely based on the life of producer Jill Soloway, whose father is transgender. It won a Golden Globe in 2015 for best musical or comedy and Jeffrey Tambor won best lead actor.

LGBT groups have praised the show as being sensitive and nuanced in its portrayal of the lives of transgenders in America.
