Networks Stay Silent On ‘Rape Melania’ Outburst

The liberal media profess to be so concerned with women’s rights. So the networks’ silence on the latest Melania Trump attack speaks volumes.

On Saturday night, protesters gathered outside of the Washington, D.C. Trump Hotel. One of their many signs read, “RAPE MELANIA.” The term quickly trended on Twitter – with most tweets criticizing the sign – and even made it into a Washington Post headline. But none of the network news shows reported on it.

It isn’t like ABC, CBS and NBC didn’t report on the protests following Donald Trump’s win in the election; they did. It isn’t like the networks didn’t show signs from the protesters around the country; they did that too.

A voiceover on CBS This Morning announced that the “Anti-trump protesters gathered for the fifth straight day across the country” during the show’s “Eye Opener” segment Monday.

Later in the show, co-host Charlie Rose even introduced a segment on Melania Trump – that said nothing of the sign or Twitter outburst.

“The new First Lady Melania Trump will be the first foreign-born wife of a president in more than 180 years,” he said. “She grew up in Slovenia when it was part of Yugoslavia.”

For ABC’s Good Morning America, anchor Robin Roberts also reported Monday that “More protests erupted over Donald Trump's election.”

And on NBC, Today host Matt Lauer called attention to “Trump's challenge amid protests for a fifth straight night” while correspondent Gabe Gutierrez did a Monday segment on “anti-Trump protests.” Video below.

But, despite all that, the networks couldn't bring themselves to notice the protest sign going viral on social media and making headlines in online news.

While some on Twitter questioned whether the sign was photoshopped, Mic cited a photo editing expert calling that "extremely unlikely." Hoax or not, a call to rape anyone – no matter her political beliefs or affiliation – is downright sickening and something the media shouldn't hesitate to expose.
