‘Simpsons’ Admits: 'Supreme Court Full of Scalias' Is a 'Beautiful' Thing

Sunday’s episode of Fox’s The Simpsons, titled “Family and Friends,” brings up the late, great Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia in a conservatives' dream scenario of the Court.

Springfield therapist Dr. Nussbaum dies at the end of a session with Mr. Burns. During that session, he suggested that Burns would be better off with a family. Once home, Mr. Burns’ assistant Smithers is working with a virtual reality app and tells Mr. Burns that he could have a virtual family.

After auditions, Burns hires the Simpson family, except for Homer – Burns will be the man of the family. After viewing the family online, Burns asks Smithers to make the children look like him. Upon doing so, Burns declares, “It is too beautiful. Like a Supreme Court full of Scalias.”

Smithers: Ok, family scene. And... Action.

Mr. Burns: This isn't a word I use lightly, but... Excellent. Oh, Smithers, one favor: Make the children look like they're mine. No, no, no! It's too beautiful. Like a Supreme Court full of Scalias. Switch to something else. That's good.

For once, Hollywood gets it right (even if that's not how the writers intended it): A Supreme Court full of Scalias – that would be a beautiful thing.
