Hulu's 'Casual' Calls for Permanent Moratorium on Oil Drilling

Hulu’s Casual has turned into one big service public announcement about climate change. Last week’s episode had a 9-year-old boy announce that “Global Warming’s gonna get us,” and Tuesday’s episode, “Fresno,” called for a permanent moratorium on oil drilling for the sake of “community health.”

Laura (Tara Lynne Barr) and her liberal boss, Casey (Nadine Nicole), attend a city council meeting to demand a city ban on oil drilling, following in the footsteps of Beverly Hills.

Laura steps up to the podium to talk about “active oil and gas wells” that reside near people’s homes, schools, and hospitals. She claims, “There’s something toxic in the air that no one wants to talk about.” She chastises the council for sweeping the problem under the rug, “letting the poison seep inside us,” and “making my generation pay the price.” Watch the insufferable tirade here:

Predictably, the show felt no need to present an opposing viewpoint.

While Casey and Laura discussed the city council meeting earlier in the episode, Casey revealed that she once worked on Democrat Howard Dean’s political campaign before she decided to move on to grassroots campaigning.

But it’s no secret that Casual doesn’t have a problem unashamedly flaunting its liberal agenda, and more of it can be expected in future episodes.
