Mother Jones: Obama’s SCOTUS Pick Provides ‘Optimism’ to Proponents of Climate Plan

The liberal news media are spinning President Barack Obama’s supreme court pick Merrick Garland as “moderate,” but Mother Jones indicated that the DC circuit court judge actually leans left on “green” issues.

Soros-funded left-wing magazine Mother Jones asked on March 16, “Will Merrick Garland Save Obama’s Climate Legacy?”

“Garland’s record should offer some optimism for environmentalists who are hopeful the Court will uphold the Clean Power Plan. According to SCOTUSblog, Garland has a history of taking the green side of regulatory disputes,” Mother Jones reported.

On March 16, Obama announced Garland as his pick to replace conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, who died in February. Garland is the chief judge on the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit.

Mother Jones cited Harvard environmental lawyer Richard Lazarus who argued Garland is not a “hardened environmentalist,” but “He doesn’t come with any inherent skepticism about the federal government overreaching [on environmental regulation]. In terms of looking for someone who would give a fair hearing [to the Clean Power Plan], he’s a big shift from Scalia.”

The Clean Power Plan was dealt a “major blow” in February, when the Supreme Court blocked the EPA from enforcing it until lawsuits against it are over. At the time CBS and ABC barely covered the decision, while NBC ignored it entirely.
