Newsweek sprinkled throughout its year-end double issue, with Barack Obama on the cover as the #1 member of “The New Global Elite,” a bunch of potshots at Sarah Palin -- and even derided teen daughter Bristol too. In a list of those who committed “low behavior” during 2008 (which did at least also highlight John Edwards), the magazine accused Sarah Palin of a “smear” against Barack Obama, on another page Newsweek described her as an “ill-informed, inarticulate shopaholic” (while on the same page hailing MSNBC's Rachel Maddow as a “brilliant” woman who “gives libs a happy new voice”) and deep in the December 29/January 5 edition the magazine ridiculed Bristol Palin: “For 30 years, the Moral Majority has promoted 'abstinence only.' Jamie Lynn Spears, Bristol Palin...how's that working out?” The specifics:
Page 21, a list of “The Biggest Losers” of 2008 “who set the high-water mark for low behavior in 2008,” featured Palin: “In a smear that sounds even worse in retrospect, Sarah Palin goes rogue and stirs up prejudice by accusing Barack Obama of 'palling around with terrorists.'”
Ten pages later, in a full-page year in review version of the “Conventional Wisdom Watch” (not yet online in the posted CW), the newsweekly hit her and McCain, but admired Maddow:
Sarah Palin: Ill-informed, inarticulate shopaholic has ego bigger than Alaska -- and she's still the darling of the GOP.John McCain: Hard to forgive the nasty end-game, and Palin pick was irresponsible. But classy concession speech and Letterman gig.
Rachel Maddow: Brilliant, ebullient, lefty lesbian gives libs a happy new voice. Will MSNBC be Obama's Fox?
“Will”?
Finally, page 79 has “The Power Index” (also seemingly not online) with a list of the magazine's arguments for whether figures in the news in 2008 were a “player or pretender?” Under “pretender,” Newsweek discredited the Christian Right and Palin:
Christian Right: For 30 years, the Moral Majority has promoted "abstinence only." Jamie Lynn Spears, Bristol Palin...how's that working out?Sarah Palin: She seemed like McCain's silver bullet...until she opened her mouth. A 2012 contender if she starts boning up on issues. Now.

Newsweek Editor Clinically Deranged
December 26, 2008 - 16:34 ET by jcharlesThe Editor at Newsweek has become clinically deranged to the point of needing medication if he thinks his mag is anything more than the National Inquirer or the Globe. How low he has taken this once proud magazine with his sefl hatred projected on the public. His agenda has completely lost and semblence or reality.

That kinda threw me for a loop as it really illuminates how teh libs think. I guess they believe because FNC is or at least attempts to balance out theissues and not be in teh tank for Obama then they were for President Bush? They only seemed like they were because all the rest were so virulent against him.
It only points towards a bias that extends to them being in Obama's "where the sun never shines" area.

December 26, 2008 - 16:48 ET by AgentAmericanBrent,
The print media is proving once again to be the dinosaur media, since Newsweek has lost a ton of subscribers in the past year. This decline is powered by their unrelenting leftist bias and their sadistic pogrom to slime Sarah The Great. The left is STILL petrified of her and will do anything to discredit her and the rest of her beautiful family. She is a legitimate threat to their rock star Pres-Elect come 2012.
Those punk bastards on the left are still snickering behind their desks in New York and they think they have this in the bag.
The conservative base is still intact and Palin needs to become the unofficial opposition leader.
A take on Descartes: I think, therefore I am.
We know who we are. The leftist scum know who they are. They think therefore they are...but we know who they really are...
The media needs to be stopped...now. Take a stand.

December 26, 2008 - 17:29 ET by NorthCoasterYou are exactly right. To the Left, the truth of Obama's palling around with domestic terrorists and Chicago thugs is a smear, hence should never be spoken of.
I have a long list of publications that I will never buy until a balanced news reporting policy becomes the rule. I have no problem with editorialists presenting their own opinions, but to have complete publications that claim to represent "Middle of the Road America" obviously unbalanced to the left, is unconscionable. I'm totally amazed that some of the news organizations that are in the tank for the Left are still wondering why they have lost readership. Some of the more balanced publications have declined but not as deeply as The NYT and others of this stripe.

It’s been years since Newsweek has forgotten the reason for its
existence to report the news.
Once a proud magazine, it has become a publication run by sophomoric
bottom-feeders who think they’re still living in a college frat house guzzling

But, fear not because as Sarah Palin gains in stature,
Newsweek will be long gone from the scene.

December 26, 2008 - 17:49 ET by Agrarian-DecentralistBaker says, "...the magazine ridiculed Bristol Palin...."
The ridicule is directed at the Moral Majority's abstinence-only policy. Bristol Palin is simply listed, rightly or wrongly, as evidence that the policy is ineffective.
Ag-Decent
December 26, 2008 - 18:35 ET by NorthCoasterYou need a better argument. Abstinence is diffcult to maintain but it solves many moral and medical problems.
No sex, no children out of wedlock.
No sex, no need for drugs to prevent conception.
No sex, no need to teach children how to apply a condom.
No sex, no need for treatment for venereal disease......etc.
I recall growing up and wondering in my late teens what it was all about.
No sex, no need for a forshortened childhood.
Oh, by the way, Sarah's daughter Bristol made it to her late teens before she succumbed.

December 26, 2008 - 19:54 ET by ckc1227"The ridicule is directed at the Moral Majority's abstinence-only policy. Bristol Palin is simply listed, rightly or wrongly, as evidence that the policy is ineffective."
Are plane crashes evidence that air travel is ineffective? Are cancer deaths evidence that chemo treatment is ineffective? How about all the pregnancies that occur despite using(or not using) birth control? Are they proof that birth control is ineffective?
The only thing the Bristol Palin incident is evidence of is that sometimes kids will do dumb things, no matter what they've been taught, or who taught them.
"Libs never let you down. You don't have to talk to one very long before the stupid comes out."
I've said it
December 27, 2008 - 07:11 ET by Mean Gene Dr. LoveI've said it before:
Abstinence does work EVERY time it is used. It is the ONLY form of
birth control that is 100% effective. When couples don't practice
abstinence, it is quite possible to become pregnant/contract a STD.
Why is it so hard for the left (and many on the right) to understand this?
A natural consequence of having sex is pregnancy. If you don't have sex you cannot and will not become pregnant...nor will you get anyone pregnant.
With peer pressure and the culture we live in that focuses so much on sex (thanks to the left) it is very difficult for kids (and adults) to see the virtues in being abstinent and to practice it without feeling like a freak. If you teach morality and strong values to children they are more likely to follow those morals. If you have and teach the attitude of "they're gonna do it anyway" then they will do it.
If I could wait nearly 26 years until I was married before having sex, then anyone can do it. It just takes good morals and some self-control. My wife also waited until marriage, the reason we were both able to do that is because we were both raised with strong moral values and we have self control over our desires.
Abstinence is successful when it is used.
"An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life." --Robert A. Heinlein, "Beyond This Horizon," 1942
Let me get this straight,
December 27, 2008 - 05:12 ET by RESTLESS 1That Bristol didn't follow "abstinence", is proof that abstinence doesn't work? That makes sense.

Once More For Sarah
December 26, 2008 - 18:16 ET by wotsiznamewotsizname Sarah has Principles through which she guides her life. She states them and follows them in her life. She does not go about shouting that everyone must follow hers. She continually says we need to work with everyone, whether we agree or not. She would help us heal the wounds from the amoral Left which have made us a house divided, a nation of enemies. This week she submitted her State Operating Budget of $5,582,664,200 to the Legislature. Last week she signed more papers toward building the 30+ billion dollar gas pipeline. What have her detractors delivered to their state or country this month? More hate. We hired Sarah to manage the state's business. We're very happy. You Betcha. [

I figure this is how it will be for 4 years. If anybody criticizes the messiah, it's racism. Let's see how this racism angle works when and if he and his cronies have to pledge under oath to tell the truth about the Blago case. Will that be racism, too?
Go Sarah!!
December 26, 2008 - 19:30 ET by iveseenitallThe only reason for the left's SDS ( Sarah Derangement Sydrome) is their fear. The children of the press are so afraid of the All-American mom they can't contain themselves. It's like the adolescents are back in school again, passing notes among themselves. It's disgusting but, in a strange way, quite amusing to see the symtoms of their sickness on display. It means they know her power. Go Sarah!

AND NOTHING SHOCKING ABOUT HOW THE WEAK FOOLS AT SAID MAGAZINE GO DOWN ON THE BUTCH LESBIAN WET DREAM AND AMY GOODMAN'S LOST LOVER!
And I wonder how they will feel when they ARE FORCED TO UNCOVER THE TRUTH ABOUT OBAMA BEING BORN IN KENYA! THIS GOES FOR ALL THE MEDIA, EVEN FOX NEWS! And you know, I wonder myself why he is in Hawaii over the holidays, where he may force us to celebrate that fascist of "celebrations" Kwanzaa, WHICH WAS FOUNDED BY A BLACK NAZI WHO TORTURES CHILDREN! And somehow those snive comments by NEWSWEAK remind me of the screeching done by the socialist nutjob Jared/MOP/whateverisgoodwhateverisbad who posts at Radio Equalizer. And speaking of which...

The MSM has a severe problem here
December 27, 2008 - 10:45 ET by cocodrieThe popularity and respect of Sarah Palin came not from the press but fron the American people because of her intelligence and competence. The character assassination of Sarah and her family is obvious to all.
The blind worship of the likes of Rachel Maddow by the MSM is also obvious to all. Her reputation is totally manufactured by the MSM and they have to keep propping her up.
Another difference is Rachel Maddow should have "front" tattooed on her chest so she would know whether she is coming or going; "girl" on her forehead wouldn't be a bad idea either.

They didn't even do that right--they canceled Mom's, too, so I had to pay full price for hers to restore. it.
