New Book Describes Media Triviality That Cost Candidate John Kerry the White House
September 29, 2014, 7:19 PM EDT

Matt Bai, a columnist for Yahoo News, has written a “look-back book” entitled “All the Truth Is Out: The Week Politics Went Tabloid,” and while the new release focuses on the 1987 incident that ended Gary Hart's quest for the presidency, it also lists John Kerry as one of the victims of the media's new motivation “to find character problems, hypocrisies that will drive web traffic and segments on cable news.”

According to Washington Post blogger Erik Wemple, one example of this change in covering politicians took place in 2004, when Bai interviewed Kerry -- while he was a presidential candidate -- for the New York Times Magazine.

Al Sharpton Praises Eric Holder, Claims He's Helping Select Next Attorney General
September 27, 2014, 2:45 PM EDT

It looks like the Rev. Al Sharpton is taking Eric Holder's resignation pretty hard. Not only did the liberal activist praise him during Thursday's edition of the Politics Nation program as the first African-American to serve as attorney general, the host of the weekday MSNBC series called him the "best" one in history when it comes to civil rights.

In addition, the liberal activist noted in a statement that he and his civil rights organization -- the National Action Network -- "are engaged in immediate conversations with the White House on deliberations over a successor whom we hope will continue in the general direction” Holder established during his six years in office.

Sharpton Slams Ferguson Police Chief's Apology as 'Too Little, Too Late'
September 25, 2014, 5:45 PM EDT

On Thursday morning, Thomas Jackson -- the chief of police for the city of Ferguson -- released a video in which he apologized for many things, including the death of Michael Brown, the African-American teenager who was shot and killed by white police officer Darren Wilson on August 9.

Later that day, Rev. Al Sharpton – host of the weekday afternoon PoliticsNation program on the MSNBC cable channel -- attacked the apology as “too little, too late.”

White House Press Office Still Tampering With Articles on Obama, Reporters Charge
September 24, 2014, 7:15 PM EDT

Remember the good old days of 2008, when then-presidential candidate Barack Obama promised his administration would be “the most transparent in history”? Apparently, the Democratic occupant of the White House and his press staff don't, which has led to reporters accusing them of disrupting the balance between government transparency and freedom of the press.

In an article written by Paul Farhi on Tuesday in the Washington Post, he stated: “White House press-pool reports are supposed to be the news media’s eyes and ears on the president, an independent chronicle of his public activities.” However, sometimes the administration “plays an unseen role in shaping the story” by steering coverage in “a more favorable direction.”

Leonardo DiCaprio Tells U.N. That Climate Change Crisis Is Now Beyond Personal Choices
September 23, 2014, 6:23 PM EDT

During the United Nations Climate Action Summit at the U.N. headquarters in New York City on Tuesday,  Leonardo DiCaprio -- who was recently named the “Messenger of Peace” for the international organization -- told those in attendance that it's “time to answer the greatest challenge of our existence on this planet. … You can make history or be vilified by it.”

“To be clear, this is not about just telling people to change their light bulbs or to buy a hybrid car,” DiCaprio said. “This disaster has grown beyond the choices that individuals make. This is now about our industries, and governments around the world taking decisive, large-scale action.”

Bill Maher Returns to 'Fat Jokes' After Chris Christie Cleared of 'Bridgegate' Scandal
September 21, 2014, 4:47 PM EDT

It's easy to tell when a popular Republican official who's been living under the shadow of a scandal gets good news: Comedians immediately go on the attack, even if it means dredging up tired, old clichés to do so.

That was the case on HBO's Friday night Real Time With Bill Maher program, when the host unleashed a barrage of “fat jokes” against GOP New Jersey governor Chris Christie, including stating that he and his wife celebrated his exoneration from the “Bridgegate” scandal with a “very romantic eating -- I mean evening.”

Hosts of 'The Five' Slam Bill Maher for Claiming Fox News 'Polarizes' Nation
September 20, 2014, 1:43 PM EDT

During Thursday afternoon's edition of the Fox News Channel's The Five, the co-hosts took on Bill Maher, who claimed last Friday that “the reason the people are so polarized is Fox News.”

At first, Greg Gutfeld said he agreed with the host of the Friday night HBO series Real Time with Bill Maher, stating: “He's right! If it weren't for Fox, we'd all be in lock step because the rest of the media is as compliant as pizza dough.”

Megyn Kelly, Congressman Hammer DHS Secretary for Giving 'Scary' Testimony
September 18, 2014, 8:18 PM EDT

During Wednesday evening's edition of The Kelly File, the Fox News Channel host joined guest Jason Chaffetz -- a Republican congressman from Utah -- in accusing Department of Homeland Security secretary Jeh Johnson of being “less than forthcoming” about four individuals with ties to terrorism in the Middle East who were apprehended while trying to cross the Texas border one day before the anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks.

When asked by Chaffetz during a meeting of the House Committee on Homeland Security earlier on Wednesday if Johnson was aware of the incident, he stated: “I've heard reports to that effect. I don't know the accuracy of the reports or how much credence to give them.”

September 17, 2014, 7:18 AM EDT

The Huffington Post announced that readers had chipped in $40,969 to fund a reporter staying on the scene in Ferguson to report on the ongoing conspiracy to protect brutal police and keep the blacks poor.

They called it a fundraising campaign for "compelling" coverage after most of the national media moved on.

Bill Maher Blames Fox News for Polarizing America; Jerry Seinfeld Says It 'Doesn't Seem Fair'
September 13, 2014, 10:25 PM EDT

HBO host Bill Maher picked on a familiar villain on Friday, blaming Fox News for ruining American politics by creating a "language barrier" that prevents a national dialogue.

Jerry Seinfeld replied: To blame it all on Fox News doesn't seem fair."

New York Times Editorial Board Decries More Hawkish Obama and Congressional 'Cowardice' Avoiding a War Vote
September 12, 2014, 8:35 PM EDT

On Friday, the editorial board of The New York Times warned that allowing the president to escalate military action against ISIS -- the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria – without Congressional approval would set “a dangerous precedent” in a move the board also called “unjustifiable.”

Meanwhile, "The cowardice in Congress, never to be underestimated, is outrageous."

Chris Matthews Comes Unglued: Evil Dick Cheney 'Created al-Qaeda,' 'Created ISIS'
September 12, 2014, 7:50 AM EDT

During the final segment of MSNBC's coverage of Barack Obama's brief Wednesday night speech -- in which the Democratic occupant of the White House called for air strikes in Iraq and Syria to combat the ISIS terrorist group -- Hardball host Chris Matthews used the occasion to hammer former Vice President Dick Cheney as the cause, not just of the current president's problems in the Middle East, but of creating Islamic terrorism as a whole.

“Please do not listen to Dick Cheney,” Matthews advised Obama. “He’s the one that created Al Qaeda by taking over the holy land in Saudi Arabia. He’s the one that de-Baathicized [sic] the Iraqi government. He created ISIS, and he’s coming back again with more advice.”

Michael Moore: Obama Will Be Remembered Only as the 'First Black President...That's It'
September 11, 2014, 7:06 AM EDT

Disappointed on the far left, Michael Moore tells Obama, "When the history is written of this era, this is how you’ll be remembered: “He was the first black president.…Eight years of your life, and that’s what people are going to remember....That's it."

Bill Maher Charges MSNBC Has ‘Just Too Much Cheering for Your Own Team’
September 9, 2014, 10:35 PM EDT

During an interview with Joel Keller that was posted Tuesday on the Parade magazine website, “libertarian” comedian Bill Maher hammered the liberal MSNBC cable channel for having “just way too much conformity” and a mantra of “never say anything that will upset our own audience.”

“I’m usually in agreement with what they say over there,” the host of the Friday evening Real Time with Bill Maher HBO series stated. “But I do think there is just too much cheering for your own team, sometimes without being very informed about the issue itself.”

Even New Yorker Editor Laments Obama's 'Anthology of Botched Pronouncements' on Foreign Policy
September 9, 2014, 7:14 AM EDT

One of Obama's staunchest journalistic supporters, New Yorker editor David Remnick, lamented he "must admit that the president has sometimes been a thick-tongued steward of his own foreign policy."

He's "compiling an anthology of botched pronouncements that have, at best, muddied his intentions."

Angry Chuck Todd: 'I’m As Pissed Off As Anybody Else Is at Washington'
September 6, 2014, 7:26 PM EDT

During an interview taped with CNN's Brian Stelter on Friday, incoming Meet the Press host Chuck Todd didn't agree with a question dealing with “this perception” that the long-running Sunday morning news and interview program “is broken.” Todd replied, “I think what’s quote-unquote broken is the credibility of us in the media channeling the frustrations of Americans.”

Todd was even stronger with Ben Terris of The Washington Post: “I’m as pissed off as anybody else is at Washington,” he said. Terris relayed “His plan: Make sure he’s well versed enough in every topic to knock people off their talking points -- 'enough of this crap, let’s get to the root of the issue' -- and to highlight more news from outside the Beltway."

Fancy! NBC Pays for Matt Lauer to Ride Helicopter To and From 'Today' Set
September 4, 2014, 9:37 PM EDT

Have you ever been stuck in “rush hour” traffic and wished you could fly to and from work in a helicopter? If so, you have something in common with Matt Lauer because NBC executives are so anxious to keep the host of its Today morning program happy that they're willing to do just that.

In an article on the Page Six website, reporter Emily Smith stated that Lauer -- who in June extended his $20-million-per-year contract through 2016 -- gets a chopper ride to and from the NBC set to his 40-acre horse farm and nearby mansion in the Hamptons a number of times per week but insists that he and his family live "a painfully normal existence."

'Right-Leaning' Joe Scarborough, Tim Russert's Son Added As 'Meet the Press' Panelists
September 4, 2014, 9:19 PM EDT

In an effort to reverse the perpetual and disastrous ratings slide Meet the Press experienced during David Gregory's tenure as anchor of the Sunday morning program, NBC is going all out and bringing in Joe Scarborough, the co-host of MSNBC's Morning Joe program, to provide a “right-leaning voice” during panel discussions, and the son of the late -- and still beloved -- former host Tim Russert.

These changes will take effect on Sunday, the first edition under the guidance of the show's 11th moderator, Chuck Todd, who was formerly the chief White House correspondent for the network and host of The Daily Rundown on MSNBC.

Fury of ISIS Victim's Family With White House Buried Deep in NY Times Article
September 3, 2014, 10:17 PM EDT

The family of Steven Sotloff, the second American journalist beheaded in the past two weeks by members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria -- or ISIS -- is reportedly “outraged” at President Barack Obama and his staff for making “deliberate leaks,” which the relatives interpret as “an attempt to absolve the administration of inaction.”

While this might seem to be the basis of an extensive news article investigating that angle of the conflict between the terrorist group and America, the New York Times reported on it -- in the final three paragraphs of a lengthy article in its Tuesday edition.
