CNN's Original Programs Draw Younger Viewers Despite Network's Poor Overall Ratings
December 27, 2014, 3:55 PM EST

In yet another report on the continuing ratings disaster that is the Cable News Network, Nielsen data indicates that “CNN's overall prime-time audience for the year is trending at an all-time low.” However, there was one bright spot for the channel: The median age of an average CNN viewer during prime time fell from 60 to 58 years old.

At the same time, states Reuters reporter Rick Kissel, the Fox News Channel held steady at a median age of 68 while MSNBC skewed slightly older this year (61 versus 60 last year).

CNN Executive Asks Pro-Israel Teenage Activist: 'Are You Brain Dead?'
December 26, 2014, 4:33 PM EST

In an article posted on the website for the Times of Israel newspaper, high school senior Hayley Nagelberg described a testy exchange between herself and Richard Davis in which the executive vice president of news standards and practices for the Cable News Network asked her if she’s “brain dead.”

The clash was a result of CNN's coverage of an attack on a synagogue in Har Nof, Jerusalem, on November 18 by two Palestinians who wielded meat cleavers, axes and a gun to kill American Israeli rabbis Moshe Twersky, Calman Levine and Aryeh Kopinsky; British Israeli rabbi Avraham Shmuel Goldberg; and first responder Zidan Saif.

Mayor Bill de Blasio Blames News Media for 'Dividing' New York City
December 23, 2014, 7:18 PM EST

During a press conference on Monday afternoon, Bill de Blasio -- the liberal mayor of New York City -- finally found someone to blame for all the protests and marches that have taken place over the last several weeks: the news media, whom he accused of “dividing” the people living in the Big Apple.

When a reporter challenged the mayor's perspective of the city, he shot back: “That's how you want to portray the world, but we know a different reality.” After referring to “some people” who do “immoral,” “wrong,” “nasty," “negative” and "threatening" things, de Blasio stated: “But they, my friend, are not the majority. Stop portraying them as the majority.”

NY Times Editors Call for Prosecution of 'Torturers,' Including Dick Cheney, George Tenet
December 22, 2014, 5:56 PM EST

In an angry editorial published in the Sunday edition of the New York Times, the newspaper's editorial board called on president Barack Obama to “Prosecute Torturers and Their Bosses.”

The list of offenders “in a credible investigation” is a long one, including former vice president Dick Cheney; his chief of staff, David Addington; former CIA director George Tenet; and John Yoo and Jay Bybee, the lawyers for the Office of Legal Counsel who helped draft the documents clearing the way for “enhanced interrogation“ of prisoners and enemy combatants.

Glenn Greenwald Claims Dick Cheney Should Be in Prison Instead of on 'Meet the Press'
December 19, 2014, 5:28 PM EST

During an interview on the HuffPoLive program on Thursday morning, radical-left reporter Glenn Greenwald slammed former vice president Dick Cheney for saying that the interrogation tactics used by George W. Bush's administration have “worked now for 13 years,” and “I'd do it again in a minute.”

Greenwald, who is best known for his connection with NSA secret-leaker Edward Snowden, grumbled that “Cheney is able to go on Meet the Press instead of where he should be -- which is in the dock at The Hague or in a federal prison.”

MSNBC to 'Shift' Online With 14 New Programs on Everything From Sports to Books
December 17, 2014, 6:38 PM EST

“If you can't beat 'em, join 'em” seems to be the new motto of Phil Griffin, president of the liberal and low-rated MSNBC cable channel, who is trying to attract young consumers “who get their news via digital means.”

The online initiative -- which will be known as “Shift by MSNBC” -- will contain 14 new series ranging from The Briefing, a political program hosted on Mondays and Fridays by Luke Russert, son of the late Meet the Press icon Tim Russert; to Krystal Clear, a show centered on issues younger women face that will be anchored by Krystal Ball, the co-host of the channel's daytime The Cycle show.

Stephen Colbert Rejoices Over Never Having to Watch Bill O'Reilly Again
December 16, 2014, 6:23 PM EST

During Monday night's edition of The Colbert Report on the Comedy Central cable channel, the faux conservative host celebrated the fact that “no one’s going to pay me to watch” the host of The O'Reilly Factor on the Fox News Channel “anymore, so f**k that noise!”

That comment was made during the final edition of a segment entitled “Formidable Opponent,” in which the blue-tied version of Colbert debated an imaginary, red-tied incarnation of himself.

Geraldo Rivera: LeBron James Should Wear a Shirt That Reads 'Be a Better Father'
December 11, 2014, 7:38 PM EST

During a panel discussion on race relations on Sean Hannity's Fox News Channel program on Wednesday evening, senior correspondent Geraldo Rivera grumbled that he saw basketball player LeBron James wearing a T-shirt that displayed the words “I Can't Breathe.”

That phrase, Rivera said, obviously referred to Eric Garner, the Staten Island man “who was choked to death in that horrifying video that we all saw.”

TIME's Choice for 'Person of the Year' Angers Supporters of Ferguson Protesters
December 10, 2014, 6:27 PM EST

Every December, the people at TIME magazine choose the “Person of the Year,” who is described as “the person or persons who most affected the news and our lives, for good or ill, and embodied what was important about the year.”

Two of the candidates for the 2014 honor were: the Ferguson, Missouri, protesters, “who took to the streets ... following the fatal shooting of an unarmed black 18-year-old by a white police officer;” and the Ebola caregivers, who are still fighting the biggest outbreak of the disease in history, which has so far claimed the lives of nearly 7,000 people in West Africa.

Comedy Central's Jon Stewart Slams Fox News Channel While Correcting His Own Mistake
December 9, 2014, 6:42 PM EST

Never let it be said that Jon Stewart allowed a chance to slam the Fox News Channel slip through his fingers -- even when to do so, he has to apologize for making a blunder on The Daily Show on the Comedy Central cable television channel

During his Monday evening edition, the liberal host said he was sorry for including Dante Parker of San Bernardino County in California in a list of black men who were recently shot and killed by white police officers.

Obama Uses BET Interview to Contradict Limbaugh's Comments on Race Relations
December 8, 2014, 5:37 PM EST

During an interview airing Monday evening on the Black Entertainment Television cable channel, president Barack Obama attempted to contradict remarks on race relations made by radio icon Rush Limbaugh during a rare appearance on Fox News Sunday, which is hosted by Chris Wallace.

“There’s no acknowledgement of any of the progress,” the conservative host said while discussing the results in America following grand jury decisions in Ferguson, Mo., and Staten Island, N.Y., in which police officers were not indicted following the deaths of two African-American men.

MSNBC's Michael Eric Dyson: We Must Retrain 'White Brains,' 'White Souls' on Race
December 5, 2014, 5:31 PM EST

While discussing racial problems in the U.S. as a guest on Thursday's edition of Now with Alex Wagner on MSNBC, Michael Eric Dyson stated that “saying black and brown lives matter makes a big difference because when that language gets repeated by white tongues, white brains can follow suit, and white souls can at least be trained in a different way.”

“That's a really good point,” Wagner said while agreeing with the black professor of sociology at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. “Even the footage of protesters being white folks and black folks and Asian folks out there on the street. It sounds pretty basic, but it's really important in showing the American problem.”

'A Black Man's Life Is Not Worth a Ham Sandwich,' Former RNC Chair Michael Steele Declares
December 4, 2014, 8:24 PM EST

With the past weeks' lack of grand jury indictments regarding police officers who killed African-Americans in Ferguson, Mo., and New York City, it was only a matter of time before someone dredged up the old cliché that “a good prosecutor could indict a ham sandwich.”

It finally happened during the Thursday edition of MSNBC's Now with Alex Wagner, when Michael Steele, a black former chairman of the Republican National Committee, declared: “A black man's life is not worth a ham sandwich.”

NY Times Columnist Asks: Is ObamaCare Destroying the Democratic Party?
December 3, 2014, 6:54 PM EST

Clashes between leaders in the Democratic Party are rarely reported by the press, which regularly points out even the slightest disagreement among Republicans as a sign that the GOP is crumbling before our very eyes.

That wasn't the case on Tuesday, when New York Times columnist Thomas B. Edsal asked if ObamaCare is destroying the Democratic Party because that “redistribution scheme has angered and alienated working-class and middle-class Americans.”

New Poll Shows Ferguson Grand Jury Decision More Popular Than President Obama
December 2, 2014, 7:48 PM EST

Now that the tumult over the decision by the grand jury in Ferguson, Missouri, not to indict police officer Darren Wilson for the death of black 18-year-old Michael Brown has begun to subside, the Washington Post and ABC News commissioned a poll to determine what people across the country think about the choice, and the survey resulted in some surprising numbers.

By a margin of 48 to 45 percent, this telephone poll conducted November 25-26 and 28-30 among a random national sample of 1,011 adults -- including users of both conventional and cellular phones – determined that more people approve of the grand jury's action than Barack Obama's handling of the situation.

CNN Analyst Agrees With Concept That 'Racism Without Racists' Is New Threat to America
November 28, 2014, 5:32 PM EST

Even though It's only been a few days since the grand jury in Ferguson, Mo., decided not to charge police officer Darren Wilson with any crimes connected to his shooting of black 18-year-old Michael Brown on August 9, racism has become a hot topic for columnists and commentators.

One extensive discussion on the subject was “The New Threat: Racism Without Racists,” which was written by John Blake, a blogger for the Cable News Network who quoted Duke University social expert Eduardo Bonilla-Silva on Friday as stating: “The main problem nowadays is not the folks with the hoods, but the folks dressed in suits.”

Scarborough Says Cop Would Shoot Him If He Behaved Like Michael Brown
November 26, 2014, 7:10 PM EST

During Wednesday's edition of MSNBC's Morning Joe program, Joe Scarborough asserted that if he behaved like 18-year-old Michael Brown did during the August 9 incident in Ferguson, Mo., a police officer would have reacted the same way Darren Wilson did even though the co-host is “a white guy.”

“There are two criminal justice systems in America,” Scarborough claimed at the start of the segment. “Black young men especially are not only treated worse on the street, they're treated worse in the court system, they're treated worse all the way through. What white kids get away with, black kids don't get away with.”

Stop the 'Blame the Media' Thing, Politico's Dylan Byers Demands
November 25, 2014, 7:45 PM EST

The media's coverage of the chaos that resulted after police officer Darren Wilson was not indicted for any crimes after shooting black 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., last August has drawn a tremendous demand for reporters and journalists to do a better job in such situations.

That call for people in the mainstream media to be more “fair and balanced” in their work led Dylan Byers to tweet: “How long til the 'blame the media' thing stops?” If the media reporter for the Politico website was looking for sympathy, he was sorely disappointed.

Barack Obama, CNN, Secret Service Top GQ's Annual 'Least Influential' List
November 24, 2014, 7:09 PM EST

It came as no surprise when the occupant of the White House was near the top of GQ magazine's list of “Least Influential People” for the third time in four years. After all, most of the Democratic candidates in the midterm elections pleaded with him not to campaign for them, and the party still lost control of the Senate while Republicans solidified their hold on the House.

“Another year, another round of people who took up vast clouds of oxygen, gave us back nothing of use, and probably helped accelerate the death of our planet,” columnist Drew Magary stated while introducing this year's list. “Here they are, in no particular order, although you'll probably assume we ranked them anyway.”

Geraldo: Republicans 'Would Blame Immigrants for Climate Change' if They Believed in It
November 22, 2014, 2:10 PM EST

During Thursday night's edition of The Kelly File on the Fox News Channel soon after the president announced that he was taking executive action regarding illegal immigration, guest Geraldo Rivera praised Barack Obama for “doing finally the right thing” and blamed Republicans as the reason legislation on the issue has failed to pass Congress.

The senior correspondent for the network declared that “I don't know and I don't care” why Obama took the extreme action more than a month before the newly elected Congress will be sworn in and claimed that the GOP “had it coming” because they blame immigrants for everything, including “climate change if they believed in it.”
