Congressman complains $364 million from taxpayers going to Soros-funded, liberal journalism group.

Not only did NBC allow their special anchor Maria Shriver to promote her own report on “Nightly News,” they did it without disclosing that it was made in partnership with a group that liberal billionaire George Soros gave $7.3 million to.

In “The Shriver Report: A Woman’s Nation Pushes Back From the Brink,” which was published on Jan. 11, an outspokenly liberal nun, Sister Joan Chittister, took aim at religious attitudes in America that “devalue” and marginalize women.

Shriver was invited to the White House on Jan. 14 to present her report to President Barack Obama, whom she promoted as being “sympathetic” to working mothers. On NBC “Nightly News” that same night, Shriver contrasted a supportive Obama against a Congress that is supposedly dragging its feet on the matter. "While President Obama has pledged to fix the problem, Congress has been slow to respond," Shriver said.

The 1st Amendment says Congress shall make no law “respecting the establishment" "of the press.” Someone should tell Congress. In 10 years, the U.S. government spent $364 million funding the liberal journalism nonprofit Internews, also supported by left-wing billionaire George Soros.

Internews was founded by a self-described Marxist anti-war protester. It has received $1.7 million from Soros, which pales in comparison to the fat government checks it has received. In 2011 alone, it sucked up $52,350,784 in government grants, according to its 990 tax forms. This made up 92.4 percent of the $56,644,153 in total reported revenue for that year.

A group of climate change scientists were rescued by helicopter Jan. 2, after being stranded in the ice since Christmas morning. But the majority of the broadcast networks’ reports about the ice-locked climate researchers never mentioned climate change.

The Russian ship, Akademic Shokalskiy, was stranded in the ice while on a climate change research expedition, yet nearly 98 percent of network news reports about the stranded researchers failed to mention their mission at all. Forty out of 41 stories (97.5 percent) on the network morning and evening news shows since Dec. 25 failed to mention climate change had anything to do with the expedition.

The Communications Workers of America, which includes a prominent journalism union, is taking credit for Sen. Harry Reid’s use of the nuclear option. That option is a Senate rule which prevents the GOP from blocking presidential nominees. CWA president Larry Cohen said that his group was “all over this ” and that “[t]his is finally a significant step,” according to The Huffington Post. CWA even issued a press release commending Reid.

The article referred to the Communications Workers of America, headed by the outspoken liberal Cohen, as “part of a coalition of progressive groups.” However, the Newspaper Guild, which is part of CWA, is comprised of “over 34,000 media workers at wire services, newspapers, magazines, labor information services, broadcast news, public service and dot com companies.” Ironically, part of the Guild’s mission is “Raise the standards of journalism and ethics of the industry.”

Two left-wing groups, the Center for Media and Democracy and ProgressNow, launched a coordinated attack against the pro-free market State Policy Network. This attack came six months after the liberal Media Consortium was launching its own series of articles bashing SPN. The accusations that this Center for Media and Democracy report made were completely hypocritical, and misleading.
